For most people choosing a Beats Solo headphone, the current Beats Solo 4 is the straightforward pick: it offers USB-C and 3.5 mm wired listening, compatibility with iOS and Android, and up to 50 hours of advertised battery life. The key exception is noise cancellation: Solo 4 has no active noise cancelling (ANC). If ANC and an over-ear fit matter more than staying in the Solo line, consider Beats Studio Pro instead.
Which Beats Solo should you get?
Choose based on the features you will use, not just the model number. Solo 4 suits buyers who want a current on-ear design, long advertised battery life, and both wireless and wired listening. Solo3 Wireless is mainly worth considering if you already own it or find a used or discounted listing whose condition, accessories, and total price make sense.

|---|---|---|---|
| Beats Solo 4 | Buyers wanting the current Solo on-ear model, USB-C and 3.5 mm wired audio, and iOS and Android support | Up to 50 hours of advertised battery life; US Beats listing is $199.99 | No ANC; on-ear fit may not suit everyone |
| Beats Solo3 Wireless | Existing owners or shoppers evaluating a carefully checked older-model listing | Apple Support lists up to 40 hours of playback and wired listening with a RemoteTalk cable when the battery is depleted | Retail availability and condition vary; check what is included |
| Beats Studio Pro | Listeners who prioritize ANC and over-ear cups | Beats describes it as an over-ear model with ANC and Transparency mode | It is a different Beats line, not a Solo headphone |
What Solo 4 offers—and what it does not
Long advertised battery life and two wired options
Beats advertises up to 50 hours of battery life for Solo 4. Apple conducted the battery test in March 2024; “up to” is a maximum under test conditions, not a promise of that runtime for every listener. Beats notes that results vary with device settings, environment, and use. Solo 4 also supports wired audio over either USB-C or 3.5 mm. See the Beats Solo 4 product page for current specifications and listing details.

Beats Support states that Solo 4 does not feature ANC. Its on-ear design is therefore a poor match if noise cancelling is a must-have rather than a nice-to-have. For ANC in an over-ear Beats design, Beats points to Studio Pro; it is an alternative from another product line, not a higher-tier Solo model. The Solo 4 support page also covers its features and controls.
#1 Best Overall
- Custom acoustic architecture and updated drivers for powerful Beats sound.
- Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.
- Ultralight ergonomic design for all-day comfort. Flex-grip headband and ergonomically angled, adjustable ear cups for a stable fit.
- UltraPlush ear cushions are designed for comfort and durability.
- Up to 50 hours of battery life.
Included accessories
Solo 4 comes with a carrying case, USB-C to USB-C cable, and 3.5 mm analog cable. The USB-C power adapter is sold separately. The included audio cables mean you do not need to add a separate cable purchase just to use its wired-audio options.
When does Solo3 make sense?
Solo3 Wireless can still be a sensible choice for someone who owns one or finds a substantially cheaper listing in acceptable condition. Apple Support documents up to 40 hours of playback and wired listening with the RemoteTalk cable when the battery is depleted. Check the Apple Solo3 support information for model-specific guidance.

Because it is an older model, a low sticker price alone does not establish that a listing is a good value. Before buying, check the seller, return policy, battery condition where applicable, and whether the RemoteTalk cable is included. Compare the full cost and condition against the current Solo 4 listing rather than assuming the older headphone is automatically a bargain. Beats’ product guides include Solo3 documentation.

- ANC is essential: Skip Solo 4 and compare an over-ear ANC option such as Studio Pro.
- You want a current Solo with wired flexibility: Solo 4 supports USB-C and 3.5 mm audio as well as wireless use.
- You value battery life: Solo 4 has the higher advertised maximum in the cited specifications, but real playback depends on conditions and use.
- You use iOS or Android: Solo 4 lists compatibility with both platforms; choose based on the features and controls you need on your devices.
- You are considering Solo3 because it costs less: Compare the actual price, condition, included cable, seller reputation, and return terms.
- You are unsure about on-ear comfort: Try the fit if possible. Comfort and sound preference are personal, and specifications alone cannot determine which will suit you.
Price and availability to verify
Beats’ US Solo 4 product listing showed $199.99 when checked on October 7, 2026. Price and stock can change, and that US figure should not be treated as a price for other regions. Check the listing for your location before deciding. Beats’ current product catalog lists Solo 4 as the current Solo on-ear model; that does not establish that every retailer has stopped selling Solo3.

What independent comparisons can tell you
Independent reviewer testing can offer listening impressions and comparative context, but it is not a manufacturer guarantee or a universal verdict about sound preference. For example, SoundGuys’ Solo 4 and Solo3 comparison should be read as that publisher’s testing and analysis, not as a promise that every listener will prefer one model.
