Which of These 5 Budget Noise-Cancelling Headphones Should You Choose?

For affordable active noise cancellation (ANC), the best choice depends on what you need most: the Soundcore Q20i is the lowest-cost candidate, the Q30 adds features, the Sony WH-CH720N is notably light, and the JBL Tune 770NC emphasizes battery life and device switching. Tom’s Guide names the CMF Headphone Pro its top cheap ANC pick, but the available details here do not establish enough of its specifications or regional price for a like-for-like comparison. These are evidence-based recommendations, not results of a common hands-on test: the available sources do not provide independent, directly comparable ANC measurements for all five.

Five budget ANC headphones at a glance

Model Best fit Evidence-backed details
Soundcore Q20i Keeping the initial cost low TechRadar writer Steve Clark reported using it daily for work and calls and noted ANC, 3.5 mm wired use, and app EQ. TechRadar reported a US Amazon price of $37.97 on October 6, 2026, during a Prime Day promotion; that is a dated sale price, not a guaranteed current price. Soundcore UK’s own guide names it as its under-£50 choice.
Soundcore Q30 More features and stated ANC-on battery life Soundcore lists hybrid ANC modes for transport, outdoor, and indoor use; multipoint; app EQ; and a weight of 260 g. Its claimed battery life is up to 50 hours with ANC and 70 hours in standard mode. ANC does not work over AUX.
Sony WH-CH720N Low weight What Hi-Fi lists a weight of 192 g and battery life of 35 hours with ANC and Bluetooth on, or 50 hours with both off. Its guide describes the ANC as decent for the price and the sound as lively, while noting that the bass can be over-enthusiastic. It does not fold and is not supplied with a case, according to that guide.
JBL Tune 770NC Long stated battery life and two-device Bluetooth JBL claims up to 70 hours of battery life, adaptive ANC, multipoint connection to two Bluetooth devices, and app-based sound customization. Its page also says a five-minute charge can provide three hours of listening. These are manufacturer claims.
CMF Headphone Pro A model to investigate if you want a current cheap-ANC pick Tom’s Guide named it its top pick for cheap noise-cancelling headphones in a guide dated October 1, 2026. The available details do not establish its specifications or regional price for a direct comparison with the other models.

Prices and availability depend on country and date. The candidates are not a universal ranking: the editorial recommendations below follow the documented features and priorities, not a shared laboratory or listening test.

Which one should you choose?

For the lowest-cost starting point: Soundcore Q20i

The Q20i is the clearest low-cost candidate in this group. TechRadar’s October 6, 2026 report gives a specific example of a US promotional price, while Soundcore UK positions it below £50 in its own budget guide. Neither establishes a current price in every market. Before buying, check the price where you live and whether the features you need—especially wired listening or app EQ—are supported by the exact listing.

The daily-use and calls account is Steve Clark’s report for TechRadar, not a test by this publication. It is useful context, but it does not establish call quality under every condition or compare the Q20i’s ANC against the other headphones here.

For feature flexibility: Soundcore Q30

The Q30’s manufacturer-listed transport, outdoor, and indoor ANC modes make it worth considering if you want to adjust noise control to the setting. It also lists multipoint and app EQ. Those are feature claims, not proof that its ANC is stronger than another model’s.

Pay attention to the cable limitation: Soundcore says ANC is incompatible with AUX use. If you expect to listen through a cable while keeping noise cancellation active, this is a meaningful drawback.

For a lighter headphone: Sony WH-CH720N

At 192 g in What Hi-Fi’s listing, the WH-CH720N is the lightest model here for which a weight is provided. That can make it a candidate for people who prioritize low weight, but fit and comfort are personal; a weight figure alone cannot predict how a headphone will feel over a long session.

There is a model-timing caveat: What Hi-Fi published a review of the WH-CH730N successor on October 2, 2026. Check which model is actually available in your market and whether the newer model changes the value of buying the WH-CH720N.

For stated battery life and device switching: JBL Tune 770NC

JBL’s maximum battery claim is up to 70 hours, and the product page highlights a five-minute quick charge for three hours of listening. The same page lists connection to two Bluetooth devices and sound customization in its app. Treat the battery and charging figures as manufacturer claims, not a guarantee for every listening volume, connection, or ANC setting.

JBL’s page also offers replacement ear pads, which may matter if you plan to keep the headphones for a long time. Availability should be checked for your region.

For a recently named cheap-ANC pick: CMF Headphone Pro

Tom’s Guide’s October 1, 2026 guide names the CMF Headphone Pro as its top cheap noise-cancelling pick. The guide describes a testing framework that considers sound, battery, Bluetooth range, calls, fit and comfort, ANC, and apps. The available details do not provide this model’s individual results, specifications, or a country-specific price, so verify those before comparing it with the other four.

How to judge budget ANC for your own routine

Match the noise test to your environment

ANC performance is not one universal quality score. Steady low-frequency transport rumble, nearby office conversations, and outdoor wind are different challenges. Try headphones in the setting that matters to you if you can, and assess both ANC and the passive seal created by the earcups. A poor fit can undermine the practical benefit of noise cancellation.

Budget ANC can reduce distractions; it should not be expected to create silence. Manufacturer modes or percentage claims are not substitutes for an independent comparison across these candidates. The available sources do not provide such a common test.

  • Two Devices, Zero Hassle: Stay connected to your laptop and phone at the same time. Audio switches automatically to whichever device needs you — so a call never interrupts your flow, and getting back to your playlist is just as easy. Compare battery figures only in the stated mode

The Q30’s 50-hour figure applies to ANC mode, while its 70-hour figure is for standard mode. What Hi-Fi lists the WH-CH720N at 35 hours with ANC and Bluetooth on, versus 50 hours with both off. JBL’s up-to-70-hour figure is a manufacturer maximum, but the cited claim does not give a comparable ANC-on condition. These numbers should not be treated as an apples-to-apples ranking.

Check the details that affect everyday use

  • Fit and comfort: Consider earcup seal, clamping pressure, and weight alongside the published specifications.
  • Calls: If calls matter, look for evidence about call use in conditions like yours; a general feature list does not establish microphone performance.
  • Device switching: The Q30 lists multipoint, and JBL specifically highlights two-device Bluetooth connection.
  • Wired listening: The Q20i is reported to support 3.5 mm wired use. Soundcore says Q30 ANC does not work over AUX.
  • Equalization: App EQ is listed for the Q20i and Q30; JBL highlights app-based sound customization.
  • Portability and upkeep: The WH-CH720N does not fold and lacks a case, according to What Hi-Fi. JBL’s page offers replacement pads.
  • Price and availability: Check local listings on the day you buy. A single US sale price cannot establish the normal price or availability in another country.

How to read this shortlist

Publisher rankings are not interchangeable: Tom’s Guide names the CMF Headphone Pro its top cheap ANC pick, while Soundcore’s own guide calls the Q30 its best all-around ANC option and the Q20i its lower-priced choice. The Soundcore guide is manufacturer-authored. These attributions help explain why the models are candidates; they do not create a single independent ranking.

For a fair purchase comparison, record the local price and date, ANC behavior in your usual environment, fit, comfort and weight, sound and EQ, battery life with ANC on, call performance, multipoint, wired use and ANC-over-cable behavior, app support, case or folding design, warranty, and replacement-pad availability. Where a product page gives only a manufacturer claim—or a guide names a pick without listing its specifications—keep that distinction visible rather than filling in missing comparisons.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
