The cited hourly rates were $55.04 for AWS, $88.49 for Google Cloud and $98.32 for Azure, with CoreWeave lower than those three in that snapshot. That is not a universal or permanent ranking. Purchasing mode, region, quota, interconnect, attached storage, egress, support and the cost of recovering from interruptions can make another provider cheaper for your job.
The practical way to choose is to normalize the hardware first, compare the same billing mode, then calculate the cost of completing your workload rather than multiplying a headline GPU-hour rate by runtime.

What the published eight-H100 comparison actually shows
The most useful like-for-like figure available here is a September 2026 comparison of eight-H100 nodes. It reports AWS at $55.04 per hour, Google Cloud at $88.49 per hour and Microsoft Azure at $98.32 per hour. CoreWeave was reported as cheaper than those providers in the same comparison, although the supplied material does not state a directly comparable CoreWeave H100 price for that table.

| CoreWeave | Reported as lowest in the same comparison | Not stated for a directly comparable H100 node | Do not substitute a different GPU generation for an H100 comparison |
The table answers “which was cheapest in that snapshot?” It does not answer “which will complete my training run at the lowest total cost?” That requires a workload-specific calculation.
Why a GPU-hour price is not an apples-to-apples price
GPU model and memory
An H100, H200, A100, B200 and GB200 are different accelerators. Even two instances that each advertise eight GPUs may differ in GPU memory, memory bandwidth, CPU balance and software support. A cheaper hourly rate can be poor value if the machine needs more hours to finish, cannot hold your model, or forces a smaller batch size.
AWS’s EC2 accelerated-instance specification lists p5.48xlarge with eight NVIDIA H100 GPUs and 640 GiB of total accelerator memory. Google Cloud’s accelerator-optimized pricing identifies a3-highgpu-8g as an eight-H100 machine type, with NVIDIA H100 80GB GPUs attached. Treat those as hardware descriptions, not proof that every eight-H100 offer has identical host resources or network behavior.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Host CPU, system RAM and local storage
Data preprocessing, checkpoint writing and distributed coordination can leave GPUs idle when the host has insufficient CPU, RAM or storage throughput. Record the vCPUs, system memory, local NVMe, attached persistent-disk type and provisioned IOPS for every candidate. Include storage charges for the whole run, including retained checkpoints and datasets.
Interconnect and network topology
Multi-GPU training may depend on NVLink, NVSwitch or an equivalent high-bandwidth fabric. A node with the same GPU count but a weaker interconnect can scale poorly across GPUs. Check the advertised topology, intra-node bandwidth and any limits on cross-node traffic before comparing prices.
Region, quota and capacity
A rate is useful only if you can obtain the required machines in the region where your data and team can use them. Quota approval, regional stock, placement constraints and queue time affect the real cost. A nominally cheaper spot allocation that takes a day to acquire may cost more than an immediately available on-demand node when deadlines matter.

Google Cloud demonstrates why purchase mode changes the answer
Google Cloud’s current accelerator pricing page, accessed 20 October 2026, lists several prices for the eight-H100 a3-highgpu-8g configuration. The numbers are not interchangeable because each represents a different purchasing or capacity mode.

| Google Cloud A3 High eight-H100 mode | Listed rate | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| DWS Flex-start | $88.490000119/hour | Current displayed rate; eligibility and capacity conditions apply |
| DWS Calendar Mode | $38.3200/hour | Calendar-scheduled capacity; availability is tied to the applicable schedule |
| Current spot | $41.6000/hour | Interruptible capacity whose availability and interruption behavior must be accepted |
| Listed commitment tier | $50.458920548/hour | Commitment pricing shown in the table; term and eligibility apply |
| Three-year commitment tier | $38.864383195/hour | Three-year commitment tier shown in the table; requires the stated commitment |
The same hardware therefore appears at roughly $38.32 to $88.49 per hour before storage, networking and other charges. The $38.32 Calendar Mode price is not a generally available on-demand rate, and the $41.60 spot price is not equivalent to guaranteed capacity. Compare modes only when your workload can meet their scheduling, commitment and interruption rules.
What the provider-specific figures tell you
AWS
AWS’s p5.48xlarge specification is an eight-H100, 640-GiB accelerator-memory configuration. EC2 On-Demand pricing is charged by the hour or second with a 60-second minimum, and AWS directs customers to the live regional pricing system for the actual rate. The $55.04 figure above is from the independent September 2026 comparison, so check the region, operating-system choice and any attached services in the AWS calculator before booking.
AWS can become more attractive when your data, IAM policies, orchestration and support contracts already live there. Conversely, moving a large dataset out of AWS can add egress cost and transfer time that overwhelms a lower compute rate elsewhere.
Google Cloud
Google Cloud’s A3 High machine type is explicitly documented with eight NVIDIA H100 80GB GPUs. Its pricing table is unusually useful for showing the spread between Flex-start, Calendar Mode, spot and commitment tiers. The exact region, reservation or commitment eligibility and scheduling window determine whether you can actually buy the displayed rate.
Recommended Free Tools
Google Cloud may be the economic winner for a scheduled batch that fits Calendar Mode or a long-running job that justifies the three-year commitment tier, even though the Flex-start figure is higher than AWS’s comparison number. Do not call Google “expensive” or “cheap” without naming the mode.

Microsoft Azure
The cited Azure comparison uses an ND96isr H100 v5 node and reports $98.32 per hour for eight H100s. That number comes from an independent September 2026 comparison rather than an Azure pricing page in the supplied evidence. Azure’s current regional price, reservation options, spot availability and networking charges must be verified directly before purchase.
Azure can still win on total cost when your data estate, identity controls, Microsoft licensing or enterprise agreement reduce migration and administration overhead. Those savings are workload-specific and are not included in the $98.32 snapshot.
CoreWeave
CoreWeave was the lowest provider in the cited eight-H100 comparison, but the supplied current price table does not give a directly comparable CoreWeave H100 rate. It does list newer, different hardware: GB200 NVL72 on-demand at $42.00 per hour and HGX B200 on-demand at $68.80 per hour in North America, with separate spot prices where available.
GB200 and B200 are not H100s. Their prices can be useful if your software supports those generations, but substituting them into an H100 ranking would be misleading. Compare GPU memory, performance, interconnect, software image, region and availability before treating either number as an alternative to an H100 node.
| CoreWeave listing | Generation/configuration | North America on-demand rate | Comparison warning |
|---|---|---|---|
| GB200 NVL72 | Newer GB200 platform | $42.00/hour | Not an H100-equivalent configuration |
| HGX B200 | Newer B200 platform | $68.80/hour | Not an H100-equivalent configuration |
On-demand, spot, reserved and committed capacity
On-demand
On-demand is the simplest baseline: request capacity and pay the published short-term rate without a long-term usage obligation. It is usually the right reference for experiments, uncertain demand and production jobs that cannot tolerate interruption. AWS states that On-Demand Instances are billed by the hour or second with a 60-second minimum and no long-term commitment; individual services and providers can have different billing details.
Spot or preemptible capacity
Spot and preemptible instances trade a lower price for the possibility that the provider reclaims the machine. Use them for workloads that checkpoint frequently, resume automatically and tolerate variable completion time. A spot rate is not a discount on guaranteed capacity; it is a different reliability product.

Reservations and committed use
Reservations and committed-use discounts can reduce the effective hourly rate when you can sustain the required term, region and machine family. The Google Cloud table’s $38.864383195 three-year tier illustrates the potential reduction, but the commitment itself is a financial obligation. Model your expected utilization and the cost of unused commitment before signing.
Calendar or flex-start capacity
Calendar-scheduled products can be very cheap for predictable jobs with a known start window. Flex-start products may provide a lower-priority way to obtain capacity, but their queue and start-time behavior matter. Put the scheduling risk into your project plan rather than comparing the rate with an immediately available on-demand VM.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Calculate the cost of completing the job
Use this calculation for each candidate:
- Estimate the wall-clock runtime on the exact machine, including data loading, evaluation and checkpoint writes.
- Multiply runtime by the applicable compute rate for the chosen mode.
- Add startup and shutdown time if the provider bills during provisioning or teardown.
- Add persistent storage, local-disk snapshots, orchestration, monitoring and support charges.
- Add data-transfer egress and any inter-region traffic.
- For interruptible capacity, add expected retry and checkpoint-recovery time.
- Divide total cost by useful completed GPU-hours or by the finished job, not by the machine’s advertised peak.
Worked utilization example
Suppose a hypothetical eight-GPU training run occupies a node for 100 wall-clock hours, but GPUs are doing useful work only 70% of that time because of input stalls, evaluation and checkpointing. At the AWS comparison rate of $55.04 per hour, compute spend is 100 × $55.04 = $5,504. The useful utilization is 100 hours × 70% = 70 node-hours of productive work, so the effective compute cost is $5,504 ÷ 70 = $78.63 per productive node-hour. This is an illustration of the method, not a measured AWS benchmark.
If the same job uses Google Cloud A3 High spot at the listed $41.6000 per hour and suffers one 10-hour restart, billed runtime becomes 110 hours and compute spend is 110 × $41.6000 = $4,576 before storage and transfer. It is cheaper in this illustration, but only if the interruption can be recovered automatically and the extra ten hours do not create a deadline or staffing cost. A failed checkpoint or a long queue can reverse the result.
A decision process that works for real workloads
1. Define the minimum acceptable machine
Write down GPU model, GPU count, accelerator memory, CPU, system RAM, local NVMe, network topology and software requirements. Reject offers that do not meet the minimum, even when the hourly number is lower.
2. Separate guaranteed and interruptible scenarios
Price an on-demand or equivalent guaranteed option first. Then price spot, preemptible, Calendar Mode or Flex-start only if your job has checkpointing, retry automation and scheduling flexibility.
Best Value
3. Verify regional supply and quota
Check quota approval, current stock, placement constraints and expected start time in the exact region. Record the time and date of the quote because capacity can change between planning and launch.
4. Add data movement and operations
Measure dataset size, ingress and egress direction, checkpoint frequency, object-storage retention, observability and support requirements. Existing cloud contracts and managed services can be worth more than a small GPU-rate difference.
5. Run a short representative pilot
Use the same container, model, batch size and data pipeline on each viable provider. Measure step time, input wait, scaling efficiency, checkpoint duration and interruption recovery. A pilot converts a nominal price comparison into a cost-per-completed-run estimate without assuming that peak specifications translate directly into throughput.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Comparing different GPU generations: Keep H100 comparisons separate from B200 and GB200 listings.
- Mixing purchase modes: Label every rate as on-demand, spot, Calendar Mode, Flex-start, reservation or commitment.
- Ignoring minimum billing: Short tests can be affected by AWS’s 60-second minimum and by provisioning time on other services.
- Using a stale regional quote: Recheck live calculators immediately before committing.
- Forgetting egress: Moving checkpoints or datasets between clouds can dominate a modest compute saving.
- Assuming eight GPUs means equal performance: Verify interconnect, host balance and software images.
- Buying a commitment for uncertain demand: Compare the discounted rate with the cost of unused committed capacity.
- Treating spot as free reliability: Budget for checkpointing, retries, queue time and deadline risk.
So, which cloud should you choose?
For a directly comparable eight-H100 requirement, the September 2026 snapshot points to CoreWeave as the cheapest, followed by AWS at $55.04 per hour, Google Cloud at $88.49 and Azure at $98.32. That ordering is a dated benchmark, not a standing market rule. Google Cloud’s own A3 table shows how a Calendar Mode, spot or long-term commitment price can undercut its Flex-start rate by a wide margin.
Choose CoreWeave when its comparable H100 capacity, region, interconnect and support meet your requirements and the quoted rate is genuinely available. Choose AWS when its current regional P5 offer, existing data placement or contract economics reduce total job cost. Choose Google Cloud when your workload can use its scheduled, spot or commitment modes. Choose Azure when enterprise integration and data locality outweigh a higher standalone snapshot rate. In every case, make the final decision from a dated, mode-specific total-cost calculation that includes the cost of not getting—or not keeping—the GPU.
