There is no single flat MediaPackage price for keeping a YouTube stream live continuously. AWS charges for video ingested and video originated and packaged; the total cost can also include an encoder or transcoder, CDN delivery, data transfer, and other services. The available AWS examples are illustrative scenarios, not a quote for a 24/7 YouTube setup. One important qualification: AWS’s cited setup guides describe encoder input and MediaPackage endpoints for players or CDNs, but do not establish a direct MediaPackage-to-YouTube route.
What MediaPackage charges for
For live use, MediaPackage billing has two main usage components: the video sent into the service and the video MediaPackage originates and packages for delivery. The ingest charge varies with the number and bitrate of input streams. The origination and packaging charge varies with the volume delivered out of MediaPackage toward the CDN. AWS also notes that delivery outside AWS or through a CDN other than CloudFront may incur internet data-transfer charges. See the AWS Elemental MediaPackage pricing page for the current billing model and applicable rates.

- Ingest: More input streams, higher bitrates, and redundant input pipelines can increase the data ingested.
- Origination and packaging: More video volume served from MediaPackage means more volume billed in this component.
- CDN and transfer: CDN delivery is a separate cost to account for. AWS recommends CloudFront caching because serving more requests from cache can reduce the volume MediaPackage originates and packages.
What AWS’s worked example does—and does not—show
AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS deployment guide gives an illustrative US East (N. Virginia) example for approximately 1,000 viewers watching for one hour with an SD-540p profile. It estimates $0.11 for MediaPackage ingest and $0.40 for MediaPackage packaging and origination for that hour. The same scenario estimates $1.99 per hour for MediaLive and $67.24 per hour for CloudFront, showing why a MediaPackage line item is not the full workflow bill.

Those are scenario-specific figures, not a current quote for a continuous stream or a YouTube-specific bill. The guide assumes standard pricing, no free-tier usage or discounts, a 99% CDN cache/hit ratio, and viewers consuming the highest bitrate. AWS says the example costs are likely higher than actual costs and that prices can change. The guide’s publication or revision date is not established on the cited page, so check current regional prices before using its figures for budgeting.

- Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
- Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
- NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
How to estimate a 24/7 workload
Estimate actual hours and traffic for your own configuration; do not multiply the worked one-hour example by 24 and treat the result as your bill. AWS’s guide gives a standard live-ingest example rate of $0.03 per GB per hour and calculates billable data from the aggregate bitrate of the live input streams. Its 4.2 Mbps example converts to about 1.85 GB per hour before the stated redundancy assumption, or 3.70 GB per hour with redundancy, producing an example ingest cost of $0.11 per hour. These are the guide’s example calculation and unit convention, not a universal rate for every region or configuration.
Collect the inputs before estimating
- AWS region and the applicable current rate schedule.
- Each input’s bitrate and number of simultaneous input streams.
- Whether redundant input pipelines are enabled.
- Expected output bitrate and audience traffic.
- Expected fraction of requests served from CDN cache rather than MediaPackage.
- Hours of operation, including whether the service runs continuously.
- Whether the estimate includes MediaLive, CloudFront, data transfer, storage, and any other workflow services.
For cost planning, AWS recommends using its cost-estimation and budget-monitoring tools and checking current service pricing. The Live Streaming on AWS guide is useful for understanding the example assumptions; it is not a personalized estimate.

Confirm the YouTube route before pricing the architecture
The available AWS setup guides describe MediaPackage receiving encoder input and providing endpoints to players or CDNs. They do not establish that MediaPackage itself sends a stream directly to YouTube. Before treating this as a YouTube contribution workflow, confirm which service or encoder will send the stream to YouTube, and whether MediaPackage is instead serving a separate audience-facing origin. If you need both functions, identify each component and price them separately; the MediaPackage estimate alone cannot establish compatibility or the complete bill.
