ASUS has launched the ProArt GR1X, a compact desktop mini PC built on NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform and aimed at creators and people running AI models locally. ASUS lists up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 1 petaflop of FP4 AI performance, but it has not published a GR1X price or an exact sale date. It says the GR1X will be available later in 2026 through select premium retailers, mainly in 64GB and 128GB configurations.
What ASUS launched
The ProArt GR1X is a small desktop, not a laptop. ASUS positions it for creative professionals, AI developers, and anyone building or running local AI workflows. The company also mentions gaming, but its clearest pitch is a compact workstation for creative and AI work that runs on the desk rather than in a data center. ASUS first previewed the GR1X at IFA on September 2, 2026, describing it as powered by NVIDIA RTX Spark. The October 2026 release is the broader product launch with availability information.

What RTX Spark brings to the box
ASUS describes RTX Spark as a tightly integrated combination of four parts: a Blackwell RTX GPU, a Grace CPU, fifth-generation Tensor Cores with FP4 support, and NVLink-C2C, the chip-to-chip link that lets the CPU and GPU share a memory pool. That shared pool is the reason the memory figure matters. Models that need more VRAM than a typical desktop graphics card offers can, in principle, use the unified memory directly. Whether a given model runs well at a given size depends on the software stack and the model itself, and ASUS does not publish those results.

Local AI, creative work, and where the cloud still fits
ASUS presents local execution as a practical choice for three reasons: privacy, customization, and workloads that do not incur per-token cloud charges. These are ASUS’s own arguments. The release is not an independent evaluation.

The software ecosystem ASUS names
ASUS describes a local software environment that includes MuseTree and StoryCube, alongside the Hermes Agent and ComfyUI ecosystem. The company’s release includes a quote from Dillon Rolnick, CEO of Nous Research, the developer behind Hermes: “We built Hermes to provide intelligence you can truly own, rather than simply rent.” That is a partner’s view of the local-AI concept, not a test of the hardware.
Where cloud services still matter
ASUS also acknowledges that cloud services remain necessary for frontier-scale models and for burst capacity when a local machine is not enough. A practical split for most buyers is to run smaller or private models locally and send the largest jobs to cloud services. A machine with 64GB of memory and one with 128GB will draw that line in different places, so the memory configuration you choose is the first decision to make.

Availability and price
What ASUS has confirmed
- ASUS says the GR1X will be available later in 2026 through select premium retailers.
- Its main configurations are 64GB and 128GB of memory.
- ASUS’s October 2026 release states that global pre-orders for its RTX Spark ProArt PC lineup began October 7, 2026, with first units arriving in the United States on October 16, 2026. The release gives laptop prices and availability for that lineup. It does not attach those dates or prices to the GR1X.
What is not yet known
- The GR1X price. ASUS’s launch materials do not list one.
- The exact on-sale date for the GR1X.
- Final regional configurations beyond the 64GB and 128GB models.
- Whether ASUS’s own store or specific retailers will carry the GR1X at launch. Check the ASUS product page and retailer listings directly.
A date discrepancy in the release
The October press release carries a 2026 date in its heading, but its body dateline reads “TAIPEI, Taiwan, October 8, 2027.” The same release gives pre-order and U.S. arrival dates in 2026, so the 2027 dateline appears to be a typo. Treat 2026 as the release year, and quote the dateline with care if you republish the release.
How to evaluate the GR1X before you buy
- Choose the memory tier first. Estimate the largest model or project you need to run locally. The 64GB and 128GB configurations are the ones ASUS names, so start there.
- Ask for independent benchmarks. ASUS’s 1 petaflop FP4 figure is a peak claim. Compare it with measured inference speed and memory use on the models you plan to run.
- Check the display setup. Confirm your monitors work with HDMI 2.1 or USB-C with DisplayPort alternate mode, and that your four-display plan fits the outputs.
- Check the network. If you rely on 10GbE for storage or a local NAS, confirm your switch and cabling support it.
- Confirm the listing. Before ordering, verify the price, sale date, and regional configuration with the retailer, since ASUS has not published them.
Comparing the GR1X with other compact AI desktops is most useful on four axes: memory capacity relative to your workload, whether the work runs locally, in the cloud, or both, physical size and ports, and verified price and availability. The launch materials do not include head-to-head benchmarks, so a ranking against other machines is not yet supported.
The Bottom Line
The ProArt GR1X is a compact NVIDIA RTX Spark desktop with specifications that suit local creative and AI work, and its headline figures come from ASUS. Until independent tests and a price appear, the practical step is to decide which memory configuration you need and wait for a confirmed retail listing.
