DataStax Astra Streaming does not set YouTube’s video-upload storage limit. For YouTube, the default maximum video length is 15 minutes; verified accounts can upload longer videos, up to 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever limit is reached first. Astra Streaming has separate limits for streaming-data messages and retention, not YouTube video files.
Which “Astra Streaming” do you mean?
The title joins two unrelated limits. YouTube governs uploads to YouTube. DataStax Astra Streaming is a managed streaming-data service with limits for messages, backlogs, and data retention. There is no evidence that Astra Streaming is integrated with YouTube uploads or provides extra YouTube storage.

So if you are trying to upload a long video to YouTube, use YouTube’s limits below. If you are configuring DataStax Astra Streaming, its own limits are explained separately.
YouTube’s long-video upload limits
YouTube Help, checked October 3, 2026, says accounts can upload videos up to 15 minutes by default. To upload longer videos, verify the account. Once eligible, a video must meet both upload ceilings: YouTube states, “The maximum file size you can upload is 256 GB or 12 hours, whichever is less.” The limit reached first applies.
#1 Best Overall
- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable
- The available storage capacity may vary.
- A video shorter than 12 hours can still exceed the file-size cap.
- A smaller file can still exceed the 12-hour duration cap.
- Older videos longer than 12 hours may remain available because YouTube’s upload limits have changed over time; their presence does not mean a new upload can exceed the current limit.

What to do if the YouTube upload is too long or too large
- Check account eligibility. Confirm the YouTube account is verified for longer uploads. The default 15-minute allowance does not cover longer videos.
- Check duration and file size independently. The upload needs to fit under both the 12-hour and 256 GB ceilings. Changing only one may not solve the problem.
- If the file is over 256 GB, reduce its size. YouTube suggests using video-editing software to compress it and names H.264 as an option. Compression can affect image quality, so review the exported file before uploading.
- For files over 20 GB, update your browser. YouTube’s computer instructions advise using an up-to-date browser for these larger uploads.
- If longer uploads used to work but no longer do, check account status. YouTube advises checking for copyright claims or strikes on the account.

DataStax Astra Streaming’s own limits
These figures apply to Astra Streaming data, not video uploads to YouTube. DataStax’s limits documentation, checked October 3, 2026, distinguishes shared clusters from Streaming Capacity Units (SCUs):
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Astra Streaming setting | Documented limit or default | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum message size on shared clusters | 5 MB | Applies to an individual message in Astra Streaming; it is not a video-file upload cap. |
| Message size with Streaming Capacity Units | Customizable | SCU message-size settings differ from the shared-cluster limit. |
| Namespace retention | Disabled by default | Retention is a configurable data policy, not YouTube video storage. |
| Default backlog size | 5 GB | Astra Streaming backlog allowance; it cannot be compared directly with YouTube’s file-size ceiling. |
DataStax also notes that dedicated-unit constraints are more relaxed or customizable in several areas, and that retention changes can affect charges. Keep a YouTube channel live with prerecorded video
Astra Streaming’s message and retention limits do not make it a YouTube live-streaming tool. If your goal is instead to keep a YouTube channel live by looping uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not live camera footage.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection left on. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode or divide quality into tiers. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo attempts automatic recovery. The first day is free with no card required, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. To try it, start a StreamNeo account.
