Short answer: choose the Nintendo Switch version if you want one copy that works in handheld, tabletop, and TV modes, including on Switch 2. Choose the Steam version if you already play on a Windows PC and prefer that ecosystem. Nintendo says the Switch release is supported on Switch 2 with “Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch,” so the evidence does not show a separate, enhanced Switch 2 edition. Both official listings currently schedule release for February 11, 2027.
What is actually releasing?
Astonishia Story is an updated version of a classic Korean RPG. The official descriptions center on grid-based battles, recruiting allies and mercenaries, updated visuals, and refined mechanics. Those descriptions apply to the game generally; neither storefront identifies platform-exclusive systems, quests, or graphics features.

Nintendo’s US store lists a digital Nintendo Switch edition, while Steam lists a Windows PC edition. Both pages give February 11, 2027 as the planned release date. Because that date is still in the future relative to the current storefront information, check the listings again before buying in case the schedule, price, or specifications change.
| Edition | Current official status | Release date shown | Key facts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch digital | Nintendo US product listing | February 11, 2027 | Single-player; TV, tabletop, and handheld modes; American English; estimated 2.4 GB |
| Switch 2 playability | Compatibility designation on the same Nintendo listing | Uses the Switch release date | “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch” |
| Windows PC through Steam | Steam listing | February 11, 2027 | Windows 10/11; 64-bit processor and operating system; additional requirements not yet supplied |
Does Astonishia Story work on Switch 2?
Yes. Nintendo’s title-specific listing marks the Switch game as supported on Switch 2 and states exactly: “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.” That is the clearest available answer for Switch 2 owners.

- Dutiful Refinement: Experience this cult classic RPG with completely updated graphics at higher resolutions than ever before! The game's look and feel have been lovingly updated for modern platforms.
- Grid-Based Gambits: Every battle is another battlefield in Astonishia Story! Maneuver your units across the grid, fire off powerful abilities, and keep track of your positioning to ensure success.
- Round Up and Recruit: A plethora of optional mercenaries are waiting to join you on your quest. Be sure to talk to everyone, as you never know who's willing to stand by your side in battle. Each character has their own unique skill set, letting you adapt your party for every situation!
- Special Edition includes: Astonishia Story GAME, Astonishia Story Digital Soundtrack (download code), Astonishing Sights Card Set, Storied Sun Acrylic Keychain
The wording confirms compatibility, not a native Switch 2 edition. It does not promise higher resolution, a higher frame rate, faster loading, enhanced lighting, a special control mode, or other upgrade features. It also does not establish that the game uses additional Switch 2 hardware beyond running the Switch software. Treat it as the Switch version being playable on the newer console.
Nintendo’s general compatibility guidance explains that Switch 2 can play Switch software but that support can vary by title. For this game, rely on the positive designation on the Astonishia Story product page, rather than assuming every Switch game receives the same treatment. Nintendo’s broader explanation is available at Can I Play Nintendo Switch Games on Nintendo Switch 2?
Is the Switch 2 release different from the Switch version?
No separate Switch 2 release has been identified in the official storefront information. Nintendo names the platform “Nintendo Switch,” labels the edition “Digital,” and then lists Switch 2 compatibility. The estimated download size is 2.4 GB for both Switch and Switch 2 in that listing, which is consistent with one Switch product being supported on both systems rather than two separately listed editions.

Switch 2 and Switch: what you get
Three ways to play
The Nintendo listing specifies TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. That makes the Switch purchase the natural fit if you want to move between a television and portable play without buying another edition. The listing describes the game as single-player.
- Handheld: play directly on a compatible Switch family system.
- Tabletop: use the console’s tabletop setup for a shared screen without a television.
- TV: play through a docked console.
The storefront does not provide a separate control comparison for Switch and Switch 2. It also does not state whether any optional control features differ between the systems.
Storage requirement
Nintendo estimates 2.4 GB for the digital game on both Switch and Switch 2. “Estimated” matters: the final download can change before release or after updates. Leave more free space than the listed estimate if you plan to install patches or other games.
Language listing
The US Nintendo page lists American English. Steam lists interface and subtitle text in English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. This is a storefront-level language difference, not proof that every region, voice track, menu, or future update will have identical support.

What the Steam PC version requires
Steam lists Windows 10/11 as both the minimum and recommended operating-system range, along with a 64-bit processor and 64-bit operating system. The page currently marks further hardware requirements as “not yet supplied.” That means there is not enough official information to state a minimum CPU model, graphics card, RAM amount, storage requirement beyond the console estimate, or expected performance target.
Practical PC checklist
- Confirm that your computer runs a supported 64-bit version of Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Check that the processor and operating system are 64-bit, as specified by Steam.
- Keep additional storage available until the final PC download size is published; Steam has not yet supplied the remaining requirements.
- Revisit the Steam product page before release for the final CPU, GPU, memory, and storage details.
Because the detailed requirements are still pending, it is too early to promise a particular frame rate or resolution on a given computer. A modern gaming PC may have substantial headroom, but that is an inference about hardware, not a published test result for this game.
Switch 2 versus PC: the meaningful differences

This table separates confirmed storefront facts from unknowns. Hardware assumptions cannot fill the missing cells: a PC version is not automatically better optimized, and Switch 2 compatibility is not automatically an enhancement.

How to read the platform labels
There are three different ideas that are easy to mix up: platform listing, compatibility, and enhancement. Nintendo’s platform field says Nintendo Switch. Its separate Switch 2 badge says the title is supported and that behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch. Those two entries together indicate that one Switch purchase is intended to run on both console generations. They do not indicate a second product with a second entitlement.
Likewise, Steam’s Windows listing tells you where the PC build is distributed, not how it compares technically with the console build. Until the developer or publisher supplies settings, benchmarks, or patch notes, the safest comparison is about where you can play and which languages are listed, not presumed image quality.
Which version should you choose?
Choose Switch if portability is your priority
Select the Nintendo edition if your main requirement is playing the same purchase in handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. The Switch 2 compatibility label removes the basic concern that the game might not run on Nintendo’s newer console. You also get a clearly stated 2.4 GB estimate and a single-player format.
Choose Steam if your library is on Windows
Steam is the direct route for a Windows player who prefers PC storefronts, mouse-and-keyboard or controller flexibility, and PC library management. The listing supports Windows 10/11 and 64-bit systems, but you should wait for the remaining hardware requirements if your computer is near the edge of compatibility.
Choose based on language needs
If you need Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, or Traditional Chinese interface or subtitle text, Steam is the only one of the two current listings that names those languages. The US Nintendo page identifies American English. Do not generalize that regional Nintendo listings have the same language information; check the store for your account region.

Do not choose on unverified performance claims
There is no published comparison of frame rate, resolution, loading, battery life, graphics settings, or controller response between the editions. Until those details are supplied by the publisher or measured after launch, neither platform has a defensible technical win.
A decision guide for common setups
You own only a Switch 2: the Nintendo digital edition is the straightforward option because its product page explicitly confirms support. There is no documented need to purchase a second Switch 2-specific SKU.
You own an original Switch: the same listing covers handheld, tabletop, and TV modes on the Switch family. The current facts do not identify a feature that would require upgrading to Switch 2.
Recommended Free Tools
You have both Switch 2 and a Windows PC: decide first whether portability or your PC library matters more. Do not assume that buying on one platform unlocks the other; neither store currently promises cross-buy.
Your PC uses an older operating system: Steam’s stated Windows 10/11 and 64-bit requirement is the first compatibility gate. Hardware details remain pending, so wait for the final specification if your system is close to that boundary.
You need a language other than American English: the Steam page currently provides the broader named list. Verify the exact interface and subtitle support on your regional storefront, because one store’s language field does not guarantee parity elsewhere.
What about a PS5 version?
A September 4, 2026 report from Crunchyroll News names PS5 alongside Switch, Switch 2, and Steam for the planned western release. The same report describes a Special Edition containing an original soundtrack, card set, and acrylic keychain.

Content, saves, and editions: what remains unknown
Cross-save and cross-buy
Neither Nintendo nor Steam currently states that saves transfer between Switch and PC, that progress synchronizes through a shared account, or that buying one edition grants the other. Assume saves are platform-specific unless an official announcement says otherwise.
Physical availability
The Nintendo page identifies a digital edition. The available information does not establish a western physical Switch release or a confirmed retail inventory listing. Do not treat a third-party product page as proof of an official physical edition without checking its exact platform, region, and publisher information.
Exclusive features
The official descriptions mention the same broad RPG features—grid battles, recruitable allies and mercenaries, updated visuals, and refined mechanics. They do not identify console-only characters, PC-exclusive options, different campaigns, or platform-specific downloadable content.

Neither current official listing supplies a verified price in the available information. Avoid using an assumed price to declare one platform better value. Regional pricing, taxes, launch discounts, and edition contents can change before February 11, 2027. The Nintendo listing is digital, so account for storage and any required console space; the Steam page does not yet state a PC download size.
Publisher and storefront identity
Nintendo and Steam identify NIS America as publisher. Steam identifies DAEWON MEDIA CO., LTD. and WAYCODER CO., LTD. as developers. These credits help confirm that the listings refer to the same announced western release, but they do not establish different content or support obligations between stores.
What to check on release day
Store pages can change between announcement and launch. Confirm the date, price, edition name, and language list immediately before purchase. On Switch, check the final file size and whether Nintendo has added a note about an enhancement update. On Steam, review the completed CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and operating-system requirements rather than relying on the current not-yet-supplied entries.
After launch, look for independent testing of resolution, frame-rate stability, loading times, battery behavior in handheld mode, controller response, and subtitle presentation. Those measurements can answer questions that the pre-release pages do not. Until they exist, keep conclusions limited to the verified storefront details.
How to check the listings before release
- Open the Nintendo product page and verify that the date still reads February 11, 2027, that the platform remains Nintendo Switch, and that the Switch 2 status still says “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.”
- Check the Nintendo page for the final price, download size, language information, and any note about an enhancement update or separate Switch 2 edition.
- Open the Steam page and confirm the release date, final Windows requirements, language list, price, and whether any controller or cloud-save details have been added.
- If considering PS5, wait for an official PlayStation or publisher listing rather than relying only on the secondary report.
- Compare the final information with how you actually play: portable versus desk or TV, required language, available storage, and the hardware you already own.
Common buying mistakes to avoid
- Confusing compatibility with enhancement: “Supported” on Switch 2 means the Switch game is supported; it is not a promise of upgraded graphics.
- Assuming PC requirements: Steam has not yet published the detailed CPU, GPU, memory, and storage specifications.
- Assuming cross-save: no official cross-save or save-transfer feature is currently stated.
- Reading one region’s language list as universal: the American Nintendo listing and the Steam listing present different language information.
- Buying from an unverified physical listing: the confirmed Nintendo product is digital, and a western physical SKU has not been established.
- Treating a planned date as final: both official pages currently schedule February 11, 2027, but future releases can move.
- Comparing prices that are not published: wait for regional prices and taxes instead of inferring value from another edition or an unrelated retailer.
Bottom line for each type of player
| If you are… | Best-supported choice today | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A Switch 2 owner who wants portable play | Nintendo Switch digital edition | It is explicitly supported on Switch 2 and includes handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. |
| A Switch owner who plays mainly on a television | Nintendo Switch digital edition | The official listing confirms TV mode and the same planned release date. |
| A Windows player with a Steam library | Steam edition | It is the directly listed Windows version, with five named interface/subtitle languages. |
| A buyer seeking the best graphics or performance | Wait for final specifications and testing | No official comparative resolution, frame-rate, loading, or visual data is available. |
| A buyer seeking a physical collector edition | Wait for official confirmation | A secondary report mentions PS5 and a Special Edition, but those details are not confirmed by an accessible official listing. |
On the evidence currently available, there is no reason to delay a Switch purchase because of Switch 2 compatibility, and no reason to expect a PC technical advantage before requirements and performance data are published. Pick the ecosystem that matches where you want to play, then recheck the official pages close to launch.
