Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Neither Argos nor Amazon is always cheaper or faster. Amazon is usually the simpler choice for broad online availability and convenient return drop-offs. Argos can be better when a nearby store offers free collection, a qualifying same-day slot, a specific promotion, or when the Argos Plus delivery pass lowers the total cost. Compare the identical model number, seller, fulfilment method, delivery charge and return terms at checkout rather than relying on a retailer-wide reputation.
The short answer: choose based on the exact basket
Retailer-wide claims such as “Argos is cheaper” or “Amazon always delivers faster” are too broad to be reliable. The winning retailer can change with the product variant, the seller, the delivery postcode, a voucher, a membership plan and the date you order. A £10 lower shelf price can disappear when delivery is added; a higher online price can become better value when collection is free or a delivery pass covers the order.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Argos is strongest when you can collect locally, need a qualifying same-day delivery slot, or find an Argos promotion that beats the delivered Amazon total. Amazon is strongest when the identical item is cheaper after all charges, the seller and fulfilment are dependable, or a nearby free return drop-off is important. For expensive products, warranty responsibility and the seller’s identity deserve as much attention as the headline price.
How to compare Argos and Amazon prices accurately
Price comparisons fail most often because shoppers compare a product title rather than the exact item. A “same” phone, vacuum or accessory may differ by storage capacity, colour, included accessories, regional model, warranty or bundle. Use the manufacturer’s model number wherever possible.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Record the complete delivered total
For each retailer, write down the following before deciding:
- Exact model number and variant, including capacity, colour and bundle contents.
- Item price shown for that variant.
- Seller identity. On Amazon, distinguish Amazon itself from a marketplace seller.
- Fulfilment method and the promised arrival date.
- Delivery fee, collection charge or any minimum-spend condition.
- Voucher, promotion or membership requirement applied to the basket.
- Return window, return postage condition and any product-specific exclusion.
Compare the final basket totals, not search-result prices. A promotion may apply only to one colour or seller, while a delivery benefit may apply only above a stated order value or in selected postcodes.
Argos does not remove the need to compare
Argos states that it does not price-match other brands. That means a lower Amazon price will not automatically be matched at Argos; you must compare the two final baskets yourself. Save a screenshot or note of the price and delivery promise if a promotion is time-limited, because prices and stock can change before payment.
A dated promotion example
A TechRadar comparison published on 24 June 2026 listed the Dyson V12 Detect Slim cordless vacuum at Argos for £429.99, reduced from £549.99, while discussing Amazon Prime Day pricing. This is evidence of a particular promotion on that date, not a permanent Argos price advantage. The same model, seller and delivery terms would need to be checked again before ordering.
Delivery: collection, same-day slots and standard shipping
Delivery speed depends on the item and your postcode at both retailers. The checkout promise for the exact listing is more useful than a general claim about either company.
Argos collection
Argos offers free Click & Collect. When an order is ready, Argos normally holds it for seven days, giving you a practical option when you will be near a store but do not want to pay for home delivery. Stock is location-dependent, so select your store and confirm availability before assuming collection is immediate.

Argos Fast Track
Eligible baskets and postcodes can use Argos Fast Track same-day delivery for £7.95. The fee buys speed only where the checkout offers the service; it is not a universal same-day promise. Check the available time slot, the item’s eligibility and the postcode before treating the charge as worthwhile.
Recommended Free Tools
Argos standard delivery and the £100 small-item threshold
Argos’s delivery guide lists a £100 threshold for eligible free delivery on small items. “Eligible” matters: the threshold does not mean every product or every postcode qualifies. Large, bulky or otherwise restricted goods can have different terms, so read the delivery line attached to the item and basket.
Argos Plus delivery pass
Argos lists Argos Plus at £40 for 12 months for eligible transactions. Its stated benefit is access to same-day, next-day and standard delivery services at no additional cost when the item is eligible and each order totals at least £20. Argos advertises coverage of more than 90% of UK postcodes. Coverage and eligibility still need to be checked for your address and product.
Amazon delivery
Amazon’s arrival date varies with the listing, seller, fulfilment method, destination and any membership attached to your account. Two listings for the same model can therefore show different dates and charges. Read the “arrives by” promise after selecting the exact seller and quantity, and confirm whether the displayed total depends on a membership or basket condition.
| Delivery consideration | Argos | Amazon |
|---|---|---|
| Collect in person | Free Click & Collect, normally held for seven days | Depends on the listing and available delivery options |
| Same-day home delivery | Fast Track for £7.95 when basket and postcode qualify | Availability and price vary by item, seller, destination and membership |
| Delivery pass | Argos Plus: £40 for 12 months; eligible orders generally require £20 minimum | Any membership-dependent benefit must be checked on the individual listing |
| Standard delivery | Eligibility and any free-delivery threshold depend on product and order | Charge and arrival promise depend on listing, seller and destination |
Returns: which retailer is easier?
Argos change-of-mind returns
Argos’s terms give you 30 days from collection or delivery to request a change-of-mind return. After making that request, you have a further 30 days to send the item back. Keep the order details and follow the return instructions attached to the purchase; the relevant clock starts from the collection or delivery event, not from the date you first viewed the product.
Product condition and category rules can still affect acceptance. Before opening or using an item that might be excluded, check the applicable Argos terms, especially for hygiene-sensitive goods, personalised products, software or items with seals that must remain intact.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

Amazon’s 30-day voluntary policy
Amazon.co.uk and many sellers on Amazon.co.uk offer returns for most items within 30 days of receipt of delivery. The usual expectation is that the product is unused and undamaged, but exceptions and seller-specific conditions apply. Marketplace listings therefore require more scrutiny than a simple Amazon-versus-Argos comparison.
Free return convenience on Amazon
Amazon says most items delivered to an address in the UK have free returns when they qualify. Look for the Free Returns indication and read the seller’s terms; not every item or seller is included. Amazon reported in a 2024 UK article that more than 95% of UK customers were within 5 km of a free return drop-off point and that it had more than 15,000 UK drop-off locations. Those figures describe the network reported in that article, not a guarantee that every postcode or product has the same option.
What “easier” means in practice
Argos can be convenient if a store is close and you prefer handling a return in person, while Amazon can be convenient when a free drop-off point is nearby and the listing clearly provides a prepaid option. The practical winner is the one whose return route, deadline and exclusions suit your location and the product. A low price is not a bargain if returning a faulty or unsuitable item requires expensive postage or lengthy seller correspondence.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIs Argos cheaper than Amazon?
Sometimes, but no dependable average percentage advantage is established across all comparable products. Promotions, seller pricing, fulfilment and delivery charges can reverse the result from one order to the next.
When Argos is likely to win
- A local store offers free collection and Amazon would charge for delivery.
- Argos has a product-specific sale or voucher that applies to your exact variant.
- You need same-day delivery and the £7.95 Fast Track slot is available while Amazon’s equivalent option is slower or more expensive.
- You already have Argos Plus and the order meets the £20 eligibility minimum, making the covered delivery cheaper than paying a separate charge.
When Amazon is likely to win
- The identical model is cheaper after adding Amazon’s delivery charge.
- A reliable seller offers the item with fulfilment and a delivery date that meet your needs.
- Your nearest free return drop-off point makes a possible return easier than travelling to an Argos store.
- Amazon has a time-limited promotion on the exact seller and variant you would otherwise buy.
Why the cheapest sticker price can mislead
Marketplace sellers can list different conditions, warranties and return procedures under the same product name. Delivery fees can also be revealed only after the address is entered. Always compare like for like: new with new, the same bundle, the same warranty coverage and the same arrival date.
Is Argos Plus worth £40?
Argos Plus costs £40 for 12 months. Its value depends on how many eligible orders you place, whether each order reaches the £20 minimum, and what delivery charges you would otherwise pay. Same-day, next-day and standard delivery are covered only for eligible items and transactions, and Argos advertises coverage for more than 90% of UK postcodes.

A simple break-even calculation
- List the Argos orders you expect to place during the next 12 months.
- Mark which items are eligible for Argos Plus and which baskets reach £20.
- For each qualifying order, note the delivery fee you would pay without the pass.
- Add those avoidable fees. If the total is greater than £40, the pass has a straightforward delivery-cost case; if it is lower, convenience or speed must justify the difference.
Do not count orders that would already have free collection or free delivery. Also exclude purchases sent to postcodes or containing products that the checkout marks as ineligible. The pass is most compelling for regular home deliveries, not a single low-value order.

Use this process whenever the two retailers appear close in price:
- Identify the model. Copy the manufacturer model number and verify the capacity, colour, accessories and condition.
- Open both listings. Select the same variant rather than comparing the default option shown in search results.
- Inspect the seller. On Amazon, record whether the listing is sold by Amazon or a marketplace seller and how it is fulfilled.
- Enter your postcode. Check Argos store stock, collection timing, Fast Track availability and Amazon’s delivered date for your address.
- Build the basket. Add delivery, apply only vouchers you are genuinely eligible to use, and note any membership requirement.
- Read the return line. Confirm the return deadline, free-return status, seller conditions and product exclusions before paying.
- Check warranty responsibility. For high-value goods, identify who will handle a defect: the retailer, marketplace seller or manufacturer.
- Compare the final totals. Choose the lower-risk option, not merely the lower item price.
Decision guide by shopping situation
| Your priority | Usually the better starting point | What to verify before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Collect today near home or work | Argos | Store stock, reservation deadline and seven-day collection window |
| Urgent same-day home delivery | Argos if Fast Track appears | £7.95 fee, delivery slot, basket and postcode eligibility |
| Many Argos deliveries over a year | Argos Plus may be worthwhile | £20 minimum per eligible order, item eligibility and postcode coverage |
| Lowest delivered price | Whichever listing wins the basket comparison | Exact model, seller, fulfilment, delivery fee and voucher conditions |
| Easy drop-off return | Amazon may be more convenient | Free Returns indication, seller terms and a nearby drop-off point |
| Expensive or failure-prone product | Whichever provides clearer support | Seller identity, warranty route, exclusions and return logistics |
Common comparison mistakes and fixes
Comparing different configurations
Problem: one page includes extra accessories, greater storage or a different regional model. Fix: match the model number and every included item before comparing prices.
Ignoring fulfilment and seller identity
Problem: a marketplace listing looks cheaper but has different support or return conditions. Fix: record the seller and fulfilment method as part of the price comparison.
Assuming a delivery pass covers everything
Problem: the basket contains an ineligible item, falls below £20, or is outside the advertised postcode coverage. Fix: confirm the Argos Plus eligibility message at checkout for every order.
Treating a promotion as a normal price
Problem: a dated sale price is remembered after the promotion ends. Fix: note the date, variant and conditions of any discount and recheck the live basket.

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Leaving returns until after opening the product
Problem: seals, hygiene restrictions or category exclusions can affect change-of-mind returns. Fix: read the applicable terms before opening and keep packaging until you are confident the item is suitable.
Choosing a retailer without checking the postcode
Problem: collection, same-day delivery or a free return point is unavailable where you live. Fix: enter your actual postcode on both sites before treating a delivery or returns advantage as real.
What to do for high-value purchases
For a costly appliance, computer or phone, the lowest total is only one part of the decision. Confirm who is legally selling the item, who receives a fault report, how long the return route remains open, and whether the product is excluded from change-of-mind returns. Keep the order confirmation, serial number, delivery evidence and photographs of the package until the return period has passed.
If Amazon’s price is lower but the listing is from an unfamiliar marketplace seller, compare that saving with the seller’s stated warranty and return process. If Argos is more expensive but offers local collection and a straightforward store return route, the extra cost may buy useful convenience. Make that trade-off deliberately rather than assuming either retailer has the better policy for every category.
Final buying checklist
- Is the model number exactly the same?
- Does the basket include every delivery charge and membership condition?
- Who is the seller, and who fulfils the order?
- What arrival date is promised for your postcode?
- Is Argos Click & Collect, Fast Track or Argos Plus genuinely available?
- Does the Amazon listing show Free Returns, and is the seller covered?
- What are the return deadline and product-specific exclusions?
- For an expensive item, who handles a warranty claim?
Recheck these details immediately before payment. Prices, promotions, stock, delivery slots, postcode eligibility and seller policies are all liable to change.
