No—Meta says its AI app does not automatically publish every chat. A conversation or generated item reaches the Discover feed when someone chooses to share and publish it. But reporting in June 2025 found examples of people apparently unaware that they had made sensitive material public through that flow. That is a real risk, not evidence that all chats are exposed or that accidental posts are widespread.
Are my Meta AI chats public?
Not by default, according to Meta. When it launched the standalone Meta AI app on April 29, 2025, the company described Discover as a place to share and explore AI prompts and said, “nothing is shared to your feed unless you choose to post it.” The Associated Press described Discover as a social feed for AI use cases, rather than a private chat history.

That distinction matters: using Meta AI and posting an item to Discover are different actions. A private interaction is not automatically a public Discover post just because it contains a question, image, or other sensitive subject.
How could a conversation end up in Discover?
Tom’s Guide reported on June 13, 2025, citing TechCrunch for details of the flow, that a person could tap Share, review a preview, and then choose a publish step that makes the item public. The report found examples including health and bodily concerns, legal questions, and employment documents containing personally identifying information. These are reported examples, not a representative sample of Meta AI use.

The practical risk is mistaking a share-and-publish flow for a private save or share, or proceeding without noticing that the final action makes an item public. The reporting did not establish how often this happens, and it does not show that Meta automatically blasts every conversation to the world.
Did Meta AI post my conversation?
The cited sources do not establish a way to determine from an account’s history whether a particular item was published. If you are concerned, open the Meta AI app and inspect your Discover profile or feed for posts you recognize; check any share preview and publishing confirmation carefully before proceeding with another item. If you find a post, use the available controls on that post to remove it, if offered. The reporting describes the publish action but does not document current removal controls or guarantee that removing a post retracts copies already seen or saved by others.

Meta separately says conversations with its AI on AI glasses do not appear in Discover unless the user chooses to share them. That statement is specifically about glasses conversations; it should not be treated as a universal description of every Meta service or data use.
Is public sharing the same as ad recommendations or AI training?
No. These are separate practices with different triggers and audiences. A public Discover post is an item a user chooses to share. Recommendation personalization can use interaction signals without publishing the conversation. AI training is a separate use of data to develop models.

How to reduce the risk before sharing
- Before tapping Share, decide whether the item is suitable for a public audience—not just whether you want to save or send it privately.
- Read the preview and the final publish action. Do not continue if the audience or destination is unclear.
- Keep identifying details, intimate health information, legal documents, and workplace records out of any item you intend to publish publicly.
- For private questions, do not use a public-feed share flow. Treat a chat with an AI as a separate data practice from posting, recommendation personalization, or model training.
