Capture a Hindi webpage in ArchiveBox
For one known page, add its URL with the ArchiveBox CLI:

archivebox add 'https://example.com/page'Replace the example URL with the page you want to preserve. The CLI also accepts URLs through standard input, which is useful for feeding it a list or another supported text-based input. See the ArchiveBox Usage guide for the documented submission routes.

Choose a capture route
- One page: use
archivebox addwith its URL. - A page you are browsing: use the official browser extension to submit the current page to your configured ArchiveBox server. The extension uses your logged-in admin session unless public submission is enabled.
- A collection of URLs: import a URL list, RSS feed, browser-history export, or another supported text-based input.
For bulk capture, --depth=1 follows one hop of outlinks. That can archive more than the URLs you explicitly selected, so use it only when expanding the capture to linked pages is intended.

Keep more than one representation when useful
ArchiveBox can save forms such as original or single-file HTML, rendered PDF, screenshot, WARC, and extracted article text. Keeping HTML alongside another representation can provide a useful fallback if a page renders unexpectedly. These are capture options, not a promise that every format will work on every Hindi site or preserve every interactive feature. See ArchiveBox Key Features.
Pages that require a login
Some pages need their own browser session or authentication to capture. ArchiveBox documents cookie and persona support, but a login-only page is not automatically guaranteed to archive successfully. Treat imported cookies, private URLs, and session material as sensitive: anyone who can access the archive may be able to see captured private content, and extractor behavior can also expose sensitive data. The project’s security guidance covers these risks.

Search Hindi text in the saved collection
ArchiveBox search is available through the Web UI, CLI, and REST API. It can search snapshot metadata—including URL, title, timestamp, and tags—and archived content through the configured search backend. Search results identify matching snapshots; they do not currently highlight the exact matching passage. Open a result and use your browser’s Find feature to locate the text in the saved page. A practical Devanagari search workflow
- Search for the exact Devanagari word or phrase as it appears on the saved page.
- If it does not match, try spelling variants or a distinctive shorter substring.
- Search relevant title, URL, or tag terms as well as page text.
- Open a matching snapshot and use browser Find to locate the phrase within it.
- Try several real Hindi pages and queries on your installed version before relying on the results for an important archive.
These steps are cautious ways to test and refine searches, not a guarantee about how any backend handles Hindi. The documentation describes Unicode search generally for Sonic, but does not provide a Hindi-specific benchmark or a guarantee for Devanagari tokenization or word boundaries.

Choose a search backend by workflow, not assumed Hindi accuracy
The available guidance describes different setup and performance trade-offs, but does not establish that one backend is more accurate than another for Hindi. Choose based on collection size, storage speed, appetite for indexing or a separate service, and your own Devanagari test results.

Protect the archive and plan for storage
- Restrict access: private indexes and snapshots can contain sensitive content. Avoid exposing captures with secrets, private URLs, cookies, or session material.
- Be careful with extractors: understand the configuration before sending confidential pages to third-party extractors.
- Treat archived JavaScript as untrusted: follow ArchiveBox’s security guidance before enabling replay or sharing an archive.
- Back up the data folder: keep a separate copy, for example on an external drive, and ensure your backup process includes the ArchiveBox data you need to restore.
The ArchiveBox project wiki reports roughly 1 GB for 1,000 articles in one single-threaded run on an i5 machine with a 50 Mbps connection. That is a contextual estimate, not a universal sizing rule; actual storage varies, and collecting audio or video can increase it substantially. See the Usage wiki.

No Hindi-specific matching or tokenization guarantee is established in the documentation. Test representative pages and queries with your installed version and chosen backend.
Can I use ArchiveBox to preserve an entire site from one URL?
A depth-one capture follows one hop of outlinks, so it can capture linked pages as well as the selected URL. It is not a guarantee of capturing an entire site.
