Climb to a hard-to-reach spot
When a route calls for elevation, the Grappling Hook is intended to help you reach places that are difficult to access. Think of it as a possible alternative to a longer approach, not proof that a particular rooftop or surface is available as an anchor.

Abseil from a building
Embark also identifies descent from buildings as a use. That may offer a way down when your route calls for leaving an elevated position, but the official description does not explain the descent controls, speed, or whether every building supports it.
Swing over a gap
The third stated use is swinging over large gaps. Consider it when the route includes an opening that would otherwise require a detour. No universal gap size or successful attachment condition is published in the cited sources.
What is known about using it in combat
The documented functions are traversal, not attacks. Reaching a different elevation, descending from a building, or crossing a gap could affect your position during an encounter; that is a tactical possibility inferred from the movement uses, not a verified combat mechanic.

The official descriptions do not establish whether the Grappling Hook can attach to enemies, deal damage, interrupt them, break line of sight, provide invulnerability, or guarantee an escape. They also do not specify whether taking damage cancels its movement, how soon it can be used again, or whether its use is audible. Treat those behaviors as unknown rather than relying on them in a fight.
Controls and item statistics: what the sources do not confirm
The cited preview and update notes do not give keyboard-and-mouse or controller inputs for firing, attaching, climbing, descending, releasing, or stowing the Grappling Hook. Check the controls shown in your current game build rather than assuming the Snap Hook’s inputs apply. Frozen Trail 2.0 also changed default gamepad mapping generally, so controller prompts may depend on the current setup.
Do not mistake the Snap Hook balance changes for Grappling Hook specifications. In its Frozen Trail 2.0 notes, Embark says the Snap Hook’s range changed from 20 m to 18 m, durability use from 2% to 4% per use, and power cost from 50 to 60. Those figures apply to the Snap Hook only; the cited notes do not state the Grappling Hook’s range, durability use, power cost, or recipe.
