What does Naruto Shippuden mean?
Naruto Shippuden is part of the anime adaptation landscape, not a second, separately titled manga run. The official comics catalog presents the original manga simply as Naruto, volumes 1–72. If you are collecting or reading the manga, look for that complete 72-volume sequence rather than a separate “Shippuden” volume sequence.

Does the story continue after Naruto?
Yes. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is the sequel, focused on the next generation. The official Naruto site identifies it as a series published in V Jump under Masashi Kishimoto’s creative supervision. It follows the original manga but does not make that completed 700-chapter run unfinished.
The sequel continues in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. As of October 2026, the official site reported that it was being serialized in V Jump and announced volume 9 for release on October 2, 2026. Are the films, novels, and spin-offs necessary?
No. The franchise includes anime series, movies, novels, and video games, as well as works such as Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring and the story connected with Boruto: Naruto the Movie. They are related Naruto-world material, but you do not need to treat every one of them as a required chapter between the original manga and its ending.
