AppViewX announced an expansion of its Agent Identity Security product on October 6, 2026, adding shadow-agent discovery, controls for access to MCP servers and tools, and a runtime kill switch. The release also describes token-cost thresholds, compliance-alignment views, and agent identities the company calls quantum-resilient. These are vendor-described capabilities; the announcement does not include independent performance or security testing.
What AppViewX announced
AppViewX frames agent security as an identity and access challenge: agents have credentials, privileges, skills, and connections that need to be governed and monitored. The expanded product is aimed at coding agents, enterprise productivity agents, SaaS agents, and custom-built agents. That framing and the capabilities below come from the company’s announcement, not an independent assessment. AppViewX’s October 6, 2026 announcement is the primary source for the release.

How can a company find shadow AI agents?
AppViewX says its expanded AI Bill of Materials (AIBOM) inventories models, MCP tools, credentials, identities, and skills accessible to agents. The company describes discovery as a combination of a lightweight endpoint Guardian Agent and API integrations across endpoint detection and response (EDR), SaaS, and cloud platforms. It says this approach covers sanctioned and unsanctioned agents, including browser-based and short-lived script-based agents.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe release does not provide a measured discovery rate, false-positive rate, test method, or independent evaluation. Its claim that no shadow agent will go undetected should therefore be read as promotional language, not demonstrated coverage. Buyers should ask which endpoints, browsers, SaaS services, cloud environments, and agent runtimes are actually supported, and how the inventory handles agents that appear briefly or operate outside managed devices.

- Check FIDO2 compatibility before purchase - Known limitations: ID Austria is not supported (requires FIDO2 Level 2). Windows Hello login only works with Windows Enterprise editions that support Entra ID, and NFC is NOT supported.
What does the MCP Gateway control?
AppViewX says its MCP Gateway discovers sanctioned and shadow Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, assesses their risk and posture, and governs agent access to servers and tools. Access is described as just-in-time and based on the agent’s identity and context, rather than as a standing privilege. The company also describes sensitive-data redaction through built-in controls or integration with data-security tools such as Microsoft Purview.
For an organization assessing this approach, the key questions are whether relevant agent-to-tool traffic actually passes through the gateway, which identity and context signals shape policy, and how access is handled when the gateway or an integration is unavailable. The announcement does not detail those implementation conditions.

Can a company stop an AI agent while it is running?
AppViewX describes a Runtime Agent Kill Switch that can be invoked on demand in the console, through runtime policy, or by an event-driven workflow. A workflow may respond to changes detected by AppViewX, such as configuration changes; third-party security signals can also feed workflows through the Shared Signals Framework. Policies can be based on resource type, the agent, and its intent.

The vendor says the kill switch applies to sanctioned and shadow agents and does not require the MCP Gateway. However, the announcement does not specify supported runtimes, what “termination” covers in each environment, how active sessions are handled, how quickly action occurs, or what happens if termination fails. It is not evidence of universal agent coverage or instantaneous shutdown.

What does AppViewX mean by quantum-resilient agent identity?
AppViewX says its public key infrastructure (PKI) and certificate lifecycle management (CLM) capabilities can issue cryptographically verifiable, “quantum-resilient” agent identities. The company says these identities chain to customer AppViewX-managed PKI, establishing a single trust root and tamper-evident audit trail, and add an identity layer when agents authenticate through an enterprise identity provider. It distinguishes proving which agent is present from OAuth authorization, which governs what an agent may do on a user’s behalf.
