ArgoUML alternatives

ArgoUML is a free, open-source desktop tool for modeling standard UML 1.4. It covers nine diagram types, supports UML profiles and XMI import and export, and can generate code for Java, C++, C#, PHP4 and PHP5. It also includes Java reverse engineering, OCL constraint modeling and design critics that suggest changes without interrupting the designer. Its Java-based installation is intended for systems with Java 5 or 6, and it runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.

A switch may make sense if you need a newer modeling standard, collaboration, model execution, broader generation workflows or a different way to create diagrams. ArgoUML is focused on UML 1.4, while these options range from code-oriented security analysis to low-code application generation. Compare their modeling scope, output, integrations and working environment with what you rely on in ArgoUML. Several alternatives add capabilities such as web collaboration or simulated execution; others are aimed at different tasks altogether, so they are not direct substitutes for UML modeling.
