A leaker says Apple’s rumored smart-home hub may come in Silver, Space Gray, Starlight, and Rose Pink. Apple has not confirmed the device or its finishes, and another report describes a standard gray aluminum finish instead. The color list is a rumor, not a final product specification.
Which colors are reported?
On October 1, 2026, MacRumors reported that leaker pdfu (itspdfu) said the device may come in Silver, Space Gray, Starlight, and Rose Pink. The report says the leaker connected those finishes to preview artwork in the Photo Face setup flow. 9to5Mac reproduced the post, which said: “Apple’s Home device may come in four finishes: Silver, Space Gray, Starlight, and Rose Pink.” (MacRumors; 9to5Mac)

That description concerns a reported setup screen and a leaker’s claim; it is not an Apple announcement that these colors will be sold. The name “HomePad,” used in some coverage, is a reporting nickname, not a confirmed Apple product name.
How strong is the evidence for four finishes?
Leaker’s color claim
The four names come from pdfu’s post, as reproduced by 9to5Mac and reported by MacRumors. The post says Photo Face preview art is selected according to the hardware color reported by the device. That suggests the setup flow may account for different finishes, but does not establish that all four will reach retail.

Earlier software-code reference
MacRumors also reported that contributor Aaron Perris found the same color names in macOS 26.7 Release Candidate code in August 2026. This is a separate clue consistent with the leak, but software assets can reflect work in progress and do not confirm final availability.
A gray-finish description
The same MacRumors report attributes to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman a description of the hub as having “Apple’s standard gray aluminum finish,” without mention of other colors. That is less specific than the four-color list and leaves the finish question unresolved; it does not establish that the other reported colors are canceled or that gray is the only option.

What else has been reported about the hub?
MacRumors, citing Gurman, describes a roughly six-inch-square display and two possible formats: a tabletop version and a wall-mounted version. The tabletop design is reported to use a metal arm joined to a round metal base with speaker perforations, in a design compared with the iMac G4. These are reported design details, not confirmed specifications. (MacRumors)
The report also says Apple may unveil the device on October 13, 2026. As of October 3, 2026, that date was reported rather than officially announced, so it should not be treated as a confirmed launch or availability date.

Does this rumored device change what counts as an Apple home hub?
No confirmation of this rumored display is needed to understand Apple’s existing home-hub requirements. Apple’s September 2026 Newsroom release says certain Apple Intelligence features require a home hub such as HomePod (2nd generation), HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K running current software. The release also lists requirements involving an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, Apple Intelligence enabled in the Home app, and an eligible iCloud+ plan. It does not say the rumored display is required. (Apple Newsroom)
Apple’s iOS 26 feature document separately says a particular feature requires a home hub, a compatible Matter thermostat, the latest Apple Home, and location services enabled for the Home app and Home accessories. That is an existing feature requirement, not evidence that the rumored hub supports Matter thermostats. (Apple iOS 26 features)
Quick Recap
What should readers take from the color rumor?
- Four possible finishes have been named: Silver, Space Gray, Starlight, and Rose Pink, attributed to leaker pdfu.
- There is supporting but inconclusive software evidence: MacRumors says the same names appeared in macOS 26.7 Release Candidate code.
- The reporting is not consistent: a separate description attributed to Gurman mentions standard gray aluminum, not a four-color range.
- Apple has not confirmed the device or these finishes in the cited sources. Until it does, the names should be treated as possibilities rather than shopping options.
