Apple’s HomeView Is Nearly a Decade Late—That Might Not Matter

Apple HomeView launches November 13, 2026, at $299, with Apple Home and Matter control, Siri AI, camera feeds and household personalization. Here’s what the late arrival means—and what buyers still need to verify.

Apple HomeView is now official: a $299 screen-based home hub for Apple Home controls, Siri AI, cameras, entertainment and household communication. Apple announced it on October 13, 2026, but general sales do not begin until November 13 in the initial markets. Its timing is undeniably late for a company whose HomeKit platform is more than a decade old; whether that lateness matters will depend on setup, interoperability and everyday reliability that have not yet been independently tested.

What Apple HomeView is

HomeView is a shared smart-home dashboard designed to sit on a table or mount on a wall. It combines touch controls with Siri AI, lets household members see personalized home screens, and brings home monitoring, communication and entertainment into one display.

Apple offers two versions. The tabletop model has a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, a domed speaker base and a stainless-steel hinge for tilt. It comes in silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray. The wall-mounted model uses the same display and core features, is available in space gray or silver, and requires a separate mount.

HomeView can recognize up to six people and personalize the home screen for each one. Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak described it as “designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user.”

What HomeView can control

Apple Home and Matter devices

Apple describes HomeView as supporting Works with Apple Home and Matter accessories. A compatible HomeKit- or Matter-enabled accessory is required, and accessories are sold separately. “Matter support” is not a promise that every Matter product exposes identical controls: functions still depend on the accessory, its requirements and the Apple Home implementation.

Cameras and security

The Home Camera interface can livestream up to nine camera feeds. With compatible cameras and a supported iCloud+ subscription, Apple says HomeView can recognize people, familiar faces, pets, packages and vehicles.

Video summaries and natural-language searches of HomeKit Secure Video recordings require setup on an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad and an eligible iCloud+ plan. Camera limits and plan features can change, so buyers should verify the current iCloud+ terms before treating those functions as included with the $299 device.

Siri AI and personal context

Siri AI is marked beta in HomeView software version 27.2. Personal-context requests require a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, current software, Siri AI enabled and a supported language. Some server-side Apple Intelligence features have daily limits, and Apple says expanded access will eventually be offered for a fee.

Setup and multiple users

Initial setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. A household without a suitable Apple device cannot treat HomeView as a completely standalone first-time setup.

Why people call it nearly a decade late

The criticism is about timing, not a specification. HomeKit launched more than a decade before Apple’s 2026 announcement, while smart displays and tablet-based home dashboards have been established for years. A November 2025 MacRumors roundup characterized Apple’s planned smart-home update as overdue. In an October 11, 2026 preview, TechCrunch called HomeView Apple’s most serious smart-home bet to date and assessed that HomeKit and HomePod had not gained much traction. That is an attributed assessment, not a published market-share statistic.

Apple’s delay may have allowed it to combine several pieces in one product: a household-specific display, Apple Home and Matter controls, camera views, communication, entertainment and Siri AI. For people already invested in Apple devices, a later entry could still be useful if those pieces work together with little maintenance.

Aqara Smart Home Hub M3 for Advanced Automation, Matter Controller, IR | Thread Border Router, Features Zigbee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, PoE, Supports Apple HomeKit, Alexa, SmartThings, Home Assistant
  • [Multi-Protocol Hub with Matter Bridge] The M3 is a versatile hub supporting Aqara Zigbee and Thread devices. It integrates third-party devices into the Aqara Home app. Supports advanced Matter bridge functionality, enabling Aqara-exclusive scenes and signals to sync with Matter ecosystems such as Home Assistant for seamless integration. Supports up to 127 Aqara Zigbee devices (** Not third-party Zigbee devices) and 127 Thread devices (Repeaters are needed).
  • [Edge Compatibilities and Local Automations] The M3 serves as an Edge Hub, prioritizing local control and automation. Upon integration, it supersedes existing Aqara hubs, shifting the automations among them to local operation (Some cloud-based notifications still require internet). Upgrade-friendly, it supports migrating Zigbee devices from older Aqara hubs.
  • [Smart IR Blaster with Feedback and Learning] The 360°IR blaster not only sends commands but also provides accurate status updates by detecting traditional remote use. It connects IR air conditioning units to Matter, functioning as an AC thermostat when paired with an Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor. (Note: Only one AC device can be exposed to Matter. Functionality may vary based on the Matter integration app. For Apple Home exposure, use Matter integration instead of HomeKit.)
  • [Optimal Wired and Wireless Connectivity] Offering both wired and wireless solutions, the smart home hub M3 provides dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4/5 GHz) with advanced WPA3 security, and a Power over Ethernet (PoE) port. The addition of a USB-C port allows for mini-UPS and power bank connections, delivering unparalleled stability. (2A USB power adapter is not included. ) . Note: To ensure a stable connection, place the Hub M3 between 6 to 19 feet from the router.
  • [Privacy-Focused with Encrypted Storage, Easy Setup and Versatile Placement] The M3 prioritizes privacy by excluding microphone or camera components. It boasts 8GB end-to-end encrypted local storage, for device lists, configuration parameters, and automation configuration data. Additionally, it includes a mount and screws for flexible placement on flat surfaces, walls, or ceilings. Magic Pair technology ensures effortless detection by the Aqara Home app upon power-up.
  • Does setup reliably discover existing Apple Home and Matter accessories?
  • Do specific Matter devices expose the controls a household actually needs?
  • Is Siri AI useful enough in supported languages despite its beta status and daily limits?
  • Are camera recognition and recording search worth the required iCloud+ plan and Apple Intelligence device?
  • Do privacy controls, multiuser personalization and software support work consistently?
  • Is a $299 display, plus a wall mount or separate accessories, better value than a current smart display or an iPad dashboard?

No independent hands-on review, benchmark, consumer survey or like-for-like competitor test is established for launch day. “Late” is therefore a reasonable description of Apple’s category entry, but it is not proof that HomeView will fail—or that it will outperform alternatives.

Who should wait for HomeView

HomeView is most plausible for an Apple household that already uses Apple Home-compatible accessories, wants a permanent shared screen and owns an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad for setup and advanced features. Buyers should also confirm that their language and region support Siri AI and that their preferred cameras work with the required iCloud+ features.

Anyone seeking a low-cost, ecosystem-neutral display should calculate the complete cost rather than comparing only the $299 headline price. The wall model may require up to $129.95 for Apple’s listed mount, while cameras, Matter devices and iCloud+ are additional requirements where applicable.

Bottom line

Apple HomeView arrives late, but lateness alone does not settle its value. Apple has announced a coherent $299 product with a 7-inch display, support for up to six personalized users, up to nine camera feeds and Apple Home/Matter integration. The meaningful verdict must wait for real-world testing of interoperability, Siri AI, privacy, reliability and total ownership cost after the November 13 launch.
