Apple’s own home security camera is still reported to be in development, with the latest coverage pointing to 2027—but Apple has not announced the product or confirmed a release date. The reports describe a privacy-focused camera and monitoring service. If you need a camera now, Apple Home already supports compatible third-party cameras through HomeKit Secure Video.

Is Apple’s home security camera still coming next year?

The latest report, published by MacRumors on September 4, 2026, attributes to Bloomberg plans for an Apple home security system in 2027, including a camera and monitoring service. That is reporting about a product in development, not an official Apple announcement or a confirmed launch schedule. MacRumors’ report does not give a precise release date.

Earlier coverage in July 2026 suggested the camera might arrive as soon as that year. The newer report shifts expectations to 2027, but the timing remains uncertain; it should not be treated as a promise that the camera will ship next year. Earlier 2026 coverage

What is reported about the camera and service?

The reported concept is privacy-focused: the camera would use AI to monitor its surroundings rather than rely on actual video footage. This description is not a verified specification. Apple has not confirmed how the camera would work, what data it would process, or what controls owners would have.

The G100 has some of the best third-party ecosystem support on the market, it can stream to Google, Alexa compatible smart displays, and even Home Assistant via the RTSP protocol, making it easier to interact with visitors or check in on loved ones.
  • Flexible Storage Methods: Record 24/7 with a microSD (up to 512GB, not included) or NAS. Time-lapse mode compresses 24-hours of footage to 15-second clips (wired connection and microSD card required). The available reporting also does not establish a price, detailed hardware specifications, service-plan terms, or a precise launch date. Those details should be considered unknown unless Apple announces them.

What can you use with Apple Home today?

Apple already offers HomeKit Secure Video for compatible third-party cameras. The report describes it as an Apple Home feature with encrypted video streaming and storage through iCloud. It is a way to use supported cameras in Apple’s home ecosystem, not the rumored Apple-branded camera. MacRumors’ report on HomeKit Secure Video

Wait for Apple or choose a compatible camera now?

The decision depends on whether you need security coverage before Apple’s rumored product might arrive. A compatible camera can give you an option now; waiting could make sense if you specifically want Apple-branded hardware, but the product, features, and timing are unconfirmed.
