Netflix is the better choice for sheer dark-thriller breadth. Its separate thriller categories, larger overall catalog and steady flow of new releases make it more likely that you will find another crime, psychological, horror-adjacent or international suspense title after finishing one. Apple TV+ is the better choice for a compact, prestige-focused slate built around psychological mystery, science fiction and high-concept drama.
There is no defensible worldwide number proving exactly how many “dark thrillers” each service has. The result changes with country, date and the rules used to classify a title. The practical answer is therefore a choice between Netflix’s variety and Apple TV+’s concentrated curation.

The service’s identity in this area is psychological tension, mystery, science fiction and prestige drama rather than a giant archive of conventional thriller movies.

That distinction answers most viewing decisions. Netflix is the safer recommendation for discovery and volume; Apple TV+ is the safer recommendation when you want a focused set of distinctive, conversation-starting series.
Why an exact dark-thriller count is impossible
“Dark thriller” is not a standardized streaming category. One catalog may place a title under thriller, mystery, crime, horror, science fiction or drama, while another may use several labels at once. That was a dated, third-party estimate of the whole Netflix catalog, not an official Netflix figure and not a count of dark thrillers. What Apple TV+ currently foregrounds
Apple’s official thriller page presents a small, recognizable group of originals. The page lists the following titles and labels or describes them as shown below:

Apple’s own copy for Servant describes a situation “In the midst of a marital rift, a grieving couple encounter a sinister force.” That wording captures the service’s preferred kind of darkness: intimate, unsettling and character-led rather than a broad list of procedural or action thrillers.
A June 25, 2026 JustWatch guide identified five newer psychological-thriller series in Apple TV+’s selection and characterized psychological thrillers as a platform strength. That supports a curation argument, not a claim that Apple has more thriller titles overall. The same guide should be read as a dated selection for its market, not a permanent worldwide inventory.
Apple TV+’s strengths for thriller viewers
- Distinctive premises: The highlighted series tend to begin with an unusual concept—memory separation, alternate realities, a sinister household presence or an alien threat.

What Apple TV+ does not establish
Apple’s page does not publish a matched total for every dark thriller available in every country. The five titles it foregrounds are a promotional selection, not proof that only five thrillers exist on the service. Nor does the page establish that Apple TV+ has more psychological thrillers than Netflix; it shows what Apple chooses to feature.

Apple’s catalog page displays a seven-day trial followed by a monthly subscription price, but availability and pricing can change by region and date. Check the current offer in your country before subscribing rather than relying on an old price or assuming that a trial is still available.
What Netflix currently foregrounds
Netflix organizes suspense more broadly. Its official Thriller TV Shows page includes Dark, while its official Chilly Thrillers page groups suspenseful television and thriller movies. Netflix describes that collection as a way to “Discover something new on Netflix — from local favorites to global phenomenons.” The company also states that new shows and movies arrive every week.
Those pages reveal a different catalog strategy from Apple’s. Netflix uses genre shelves to help viewers browse a large and changing inventory. A title may be surfaced under thriller, crime, mystery, horror, international television or a temporary editorial collection, so the number of results visible to one account can differ from another.

If you finished Netflix’s Dark
Apple TV+ is the logical next stop for viewers who value intricate speculative ideas and serialized mystery; Dark Matter is the closest match among Apple’s highlighted titles in premise-driven science fiction. Netflix remains the better place to continue browsing if you want another complex international mystery, because its catalog spans more countries and formats.
