Carrier promotions can advertise the biggest credit, but Apple Trade In often delivers the clearest immediate value. The better choice is whichever leaves you with more net money after plan-price differences, activation or upgrade fees, taxes, payoff obligations, and the cost of staying long enough to receive every monthly credit.
Apple applies its quoted trade-in value to an Apple purchase. A carrier usually spreads promotional value across 24 or 36 monthly bills and requires a qualifying plan and financed device. Compare the complete cost, not the headline “free phone” figure.

What Apple Trade In gives you
Apple’s official Trade In process starts with an estimate for your specific device. The quote depends on the iPhone model, storage capacity and condition. You answer questions about the phone, receive an estimated value, and apply that value toward an Apple purchase. The final amount can change if inspection finds a different condition than the one described.

Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
When the Apple value is applied
Apple’s route is generally a point-of-purchase transaction. The trade-in amount reduces what you pay for the new Apple device rather than arriving as a series of service-account credits. This makes the value easier to see in your receipt and avoids waiting through a multiyear billing schedule.
Consumer and business quotes are different
Apple notes that consumer and business trade-in values can differ. If you are buying through a business purchasing program, obtain the quote in that channel instead of assuming a consumer estimate applies.
What Apple does not require
Apple Trade In does not, by itself, require you to keep a particular mobile-service line active for 24 or 36 months. That makes it a natural fit if you want an unlocked phone, may change carriers, or prefer to pay for the hardware without a long service commitment. Your normal Apple purchase, financing and tax terms still apply.
How carrier trade-in promotions work
Carrier offers combine three separate elements: the device you surrender, a financed replacement phone, and a qualifying service plan. The carrier assigns a promotional credit based on the phone and condition, then applies that credit to future bills. The advertised amount may be much higher than the device’s ordinary trade-in value because it is subsidized by the service and financing agreement.
Verizon
Verizon says a trade-in can produce an instant credit, an account credit, or a gift card, depending on the offer. Its instructions require customers to mail the trade-in device within 30 days. Missing that deadline can prevent the promotion from being applied, so keep the shipment receipt and tracking information until the credit appears.
AT&T
AT&T advertises prices as low as $0 per month after 36 months of credits when you combine an eligible trade-in with a qualifying plan. “$0 per month” refers to the remaining device installment after credits; it does not mean the service is free or that every iPhone qualifies.

T-Mobile
T-Mobile warns that the trade-in estimate is only one part of the deal. Its estimate can vary by device color and carrier, so enter the exact model details rather than relying on a generic iPhone description. Promotional credits are tied to the specific offer and plan you choose.
Why the credit is delayed
Carriers normally bill the full device installment and then subtract a promotional credit each month. The credit may not appear until the trade-in is received, inspected and matched to the promotion. A billing delay does not necessarily mean the offer failed, but you should contact the carrier promptly if the first expected credit is missing.
Current promotional figures and what they mean
The following figures are documented promotional examples, not guaranteed quotes for every iPhone, customer or region. Offers change, and eligibility can depend on the plan, line status, device condition and purchase channel.
| Provider or source | Published figure | Term or condition | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| AT&T (2026) | Up to $1,200 off | Eligible iPhone trade-in and qualifying service | Maximum promotional credit; your model and plan may receive less. |
| T-Mobile (2026) | Up to $37.50 per month | 24 months in a listed iPhone promotion | At the maximum, the listed credits total $900 before considering plan costs, taxes and fees. |
| AT&T promotions documented by the FCC (2024) | Monthly credits | 36-month credit schedule | Leaving early can forfeit unpaid credits and leave an installment balance. |
| Verizon promotions documented by the FCC (2024) | Monthly credits | 36-month credit schedule | The promotion is earned over time rather than paid entirely at purchase. |
| T-Mobile promotions documented by the FCC (2024) | Monthly credits | 24-month credit schedule | The shorter schedule can reduce the time you must remain, but the exact offer controls. |
The Federal Communications Commission’s 2024 documentation describes the credit schedules above. A current offer can use different terms, so read the promotion’s disclosure before ordering.
Apple versus a carrier: the comparison that matters
| Decision factor | Apple Trade In | Carrier promotion |
|---|---|---|
| How value arrives | Trade-in value is applied to an Apple purchase. | Promotional value is commonly spread across monthly bills; some offers use an instant credit, account credit or gift card. |
| Service requirement | No trade-in-specific carrier line requirement. | Qualifying service plan and an eligible line are usually required. |
| Financing requirement | Not inherent to Trade In. | Replacement phone is commonly financed, with credits offsetting installments. |
| Time to receive value | Visible at purchase after the device is accepted or its final value is confirmed. | Can take 24 or 36 billing cycles, depending on the promotion. |
| Switching risk | No carrier credits to lose. | Canceling, upgrading outside the rules or changing eligibility can stop remaining credits. |
| Unlocked-phone flexibility | Usually better suited to buyers who want to choose or change carriers. | Availability and unlocking depend on the carrier’s financing and policy terms. |
| Condition assessment | Based on Apple’s inspection criteria. | Based on the carrier’s eligibility tiers; these can differ from Apple’s. |
Calculate the real net value
Use the same phone, storage size and condition in every estimator, then calculate the cost of accepting each route. The basic equation is:
Recommended Free Tools
Net value = trade-in or promotional credit − (extra plan cost × credit months) − activation, upgrade, tax and payoff costs.

“Extra plan cost” is the difference between the qualifying carrier plan and the plan you would otherwise choose. If you already need that plan for other reasons, the difference may be zero; if the promotion forces a more expensive tier, include the entire incremental amount for every month the credits require.
A worksheet you can fill in
- Write down Apple’s final trade-in estimate after entering the exact model, storage and condition.
- Record the carrier’s advertised promotional credit and the number of credit months.
- Calculate the qualifying plan’s monthly price, including required lines, and subtract the price of your realistic alternative plan.
- Multiply that monthly difference by the full credit term.
- Add one-time activation, upgrade, connection, shipping or other mandatory fees, plus taxes that are not covered by credits.
- Include any amount you must pay to settle an existing device installment or to meet an early-upgrade requirement.
- Subtract those costs from each route’s credit and compare the resulting net amounts.
- Record how long you must remain eligible before the full value is earned.
Why a “free phone” can cost more
A phone advertised at $0 per month may still require an expensive unlimited plan, a new line, a trade-in in a top condition tier and uninterrupted service for the entire credit schedule. If the extra plan cost and fees exceed Apple’s smaller immediate credit, the carrier’s larger headline produces less net value.
Do not treat the maximum as your quote
“Up to” amounts apply only to qualifying models and conditions in the specified promotion. A lower-storage model, damaged display, missing parts or an ineligible plan can move you to a lower tier. Save screenshots or a PDF of the offer details before submitting the trade-in.

Timing, cash flow and the cost of waiting
Apple’s value is useful when you need the discount at checkout or want to minimize the amount financed. Carrier credits improve your bill gradually. You may pay the full installment initially, wait for inspection, and then see the credit on later statements.
Credit schedules also create an opportunity cost: money you could have received immediately through Apple remains locked in future bills. A carrier offer can still be worthwhile when its net credit is substantially higher, but compare the value of immediate savings with the risk and inconvenience of waiting.
Track the trade-in shipment
For a carrier trade-in, photograph the phone, its condition and the package before mailing. Use the carrier’s supplied label or instructions, ship within the stated deadline and keep the receipt and tracking number. Verizon specifically instructs customers to mail the device within 30 days; other promotions can set different deadlines.

Check the first bills
After the device is received and inspected, verify that the expected installment and promotional credit appear. A temporary full installment can occur while the trade-in is processed, but a missing credit that persists beyond the offer’s stated processing period needs prompt support contact. Keep every confirmation until the final credit posts.

Carrier credits generally depend on keeping the qualifying line and installment agreement active. If you cancel service, move the line to an ineligible plan, pay off the device early or upgrade under terms that end the original installment, remaining promotional credits can stop. You may also owe the unpaid device balance immediately.
Before switching carriers
- Find the original installment agreement and note the remaining device balance.
- Count how many promotional credits remain and multiply by the monthly credit amount.
- Ask the current carrier whether cancellation, number transfer, payoff or an upgrade ends those credits.
- Compare the remaining credits with the cost of staying and the cost of paying the balance after leaving.
- Confirm the new carrier’s activation, unlocking and trade-in requirements before porting your number.
Do not assume that a carrier will transfer promotional credits to another provider. Credits are normally tied to the original account and offer, so obtain a written answer before making the switch.
Condition, model and eligibility checks
Run both estimators with identical information. Use the exact iPhone generation, storage capacity, color and carrier status requested by the form. T-Mobile specifically notes that color and carrier can affect its estimate. Apple and each carrier may define acceptable damage, battery condition, activation status and included components differently.
Prepare the phone before valuation
- Back up photos, messages and authenticator data.
- Sign out of Apple Account and disable Find My before handing over the device.
- Erase all content and settings only after confirming the backup.
- Remove the SIM or follow the carrier’s eSIM-transfer instructions.
- Record the IMEI or serial number and photograph the phone’s condition.
A phone that passes Apple’s condition questions may fall into a different carrier tier, and the reverse can also happen. Do not compare an Apple quote for “good” condition with a carrier quote based on a premium condition tier.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStep-by-step: compare Apple and a carrier without guessing
- Choose the replacement phone. Note its exact storage and retail price so every route is based on the same device.
- Get Apple’s estimate. Enter the current iPhone’s model, storage and condition, and record whether the value is an instant purchase credit or subject to final inspection.
- Check each carrier offer separately. Use the carrier’s current estimator and enter the same details. Record the qualifying plan, financing term, credit amount, trade-in deadline and any required new line.
- List one-time charges. Include activation, upgrade, connection, shipping and taxes that the promotion does not cover.
- Calculate the plan premium. Compare the required plan with the plan you would actually keep without the promotion.
- Apply the net-value formula. Subtract the plan premium over the full credit term and all other required costs from the advertised credit.
- Stress-test an early exit. Calculate what happens if you leave after six, 12 or 18 months: identify lost credits and the device balance you would owe.
- Choose based on your priorities. Select Apple for immediate, flexible value when the net difference is small; select a carrier when the verified net credit is materially higher and you can remain eligible for the full term.
When Apple is usually the better route
- You expect to change carriers before the promotion ends.
- You want an unlocked phone or do not want a new line.
- The carrier requires a plan tier that costs more than your current service.
- You need the discount immediately rather than over future bills.
- You prefer a simple transaction with fewer eligibility conditions.
When a carrier promotion can win
- The qualifying plan costs no more than the service you would choose anyway.
- Your iPhone meets the carrier’s highest trade-in tier.
- You can keep the line and installment active through every required credit month.
- The promotion’s verified net credit exceeds Apple’s final value after all fees and taxes.
- You are comfortable tracking bills and resolving a missing credit.

Missing the mailing deadline
Fix: Ship within the stated window, retain tracking and confirm receipt in your account.
Paying off the phone early
Fix: Ask how payoff affects remaining credits before submitting a payment; early payoff can end the promotion.

A practical decision rule
Choose Apple when its immediate credit is close to the carrier’s net value, because Apple leaves you with fewer future conditions. Choose the carrier only when the documented net benefit remains clearly higher after the required plan premium and fees, and when you are confident you can stay through the entire credit schedule.
Before you submit either trade-in, save the quote, promotion terms, device details and deadline. That record gives you evidence if the final inspection or billing result differs from the estimate.
