The iPhone 18 Pro Max is the larger, higher-priced flagship; the Galaxy S26 FE costs less and offers a 120Hz display plus a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera. In the U.S., their announced starting prices are $1,299 and $699.99 respectively—a $599.01 gap before taxes, discounts, or storage matching. Specs alone do not establish which phone takes better photos, lasts longer, or feels faster in everyday use.

How much cheaper is the Galaxy S26 FE?
Using the manufacturers’ announced U.S. starting prices, the Galaxy S26 FE starts $599.01 below the iPhone 18 Pro Max. This calculation compares $699.99 with $1,299; it is not a current retailer quote or a like-for-like price for matching storage. The iPhone’s listed tiers start at 256GB, while Samsung’s U.S. announcement lists 128GB and 256GB models.

Taxes, carrier installments, trade-in credits, promotions, local stock, and current unlocked prices are not included in the announced figures. Samsung Korea separately lists the Galaxy S26 FE 256GB at 1,045,000 won; that Korean price cannot be directly compared with Apple’s U.S. price. Display and size: bigger iPhone, faster-refresh Samsung panel
The iPhone 18 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display, compared with the Galaxy S26 FE’s 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. Samsung specifies refresh rates of 60Hz and 120Hz and states a brightness of 1,900 nits. The size difference is modest on paper, while the Samsung specification explicitly includes a 120Hz mode. Neither diagonal size nor refresh rate alone establishes overall display quality; resolution, brightness behavior, color, and viewing conditions also matter.
Cameras: a variable-aperture main camera versus three rear cameras
Apple lists a 48MP Fusion main camera with variable aperture on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Samsung lists a 50MP stabilized wide camera, a 12MP ultrawide, and an 8MP stabilized telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom on the Galaxy S26 FE. The FE therefore has a specifically listed ultrawide and 3x optical telephoto alongside its main camera, while Apple’s cited launch materials emphasize the main camera’s variable aperture.

Megapixel counts and lens lists do not establish which phone produces better images. The available manufacturer specifications do not provide a controlled side-by-side photo comparison or independent camera result, so a camera-quality winner cannot be named from these figures.

Apple names the A20 Pro chip and a next-generation vapor chamber for the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Samsung names the Exynos 2500 for the Galaxy S26 FE. These component names do not substitute for comparable real-world performance measurements; the cited materials establish no controlled head-to-head benchmark.

Samsung specifies a 4,900mAh typical battery capacity and charging rates of 45W wired and 15W wireless, plus Wireless PowerShare. It says the 45W adapter is sold separately. Apple describes the Pro Max as having the largest increase in battery life ever on iPhone, which is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified endurance result. Battery capacity and advertised charging rates likewise do not tell you how long either device will last or how quickly it will charge in your routine.
Software, connectivity, and support
Apple’s launch materials identify iOS 27, Apple Intelligence, and Siri AI. Samsung Korea’s launch information identifies Android 17, One UI 9, and Galaxy AI. Software features and rollout can vary by market and over time, so confirm the version and features offered where you plan to buy.

Samsung says the Galaxy S26 FE receives up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. “Up to” matters: check Samsung’s locally applicable terms rather than treating the statement as a universal guarantee. The cited material does not establish a corresponding support-period commitment for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, so it would be misleading to infer a support winner from this comparison.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max if
- You want Apple’s 6.9-inch Pro Max model and the iOS platform.
- You value the listed 48MP main camera with variable aperture and Apple’s stated connectivity features.
- Your budget accommodates its higher announced U.S. starting price, and you have checked the price for your required storage tier.
Choose the Galaxy S26 FE if
- You want a lower announced U.S. starting price and a listed 128GB option.
- You prefer Android and want the listed 120Hz display mode and a dedicated 3x optical telephoto camera.
- You value Samsung’s stated update policy, after confirming its application in your market, and have accounted for the separately sold 45W adapter if needed.
Neither choice is a proven performance, camera, or battery-life winner on the available specifications alone. The practical decision is whether the iPhone’s higher price and Apple platform suit you better than the FE’s lower entry price and Samsung’s listed display and camera configuration.
