Apple HomeView vs. Nest Hub Max at a glance
These products are aimed at different ecosystems rather than being interchangeable screens. HomeView is Apple’s shared home control panel, while Nest Hub Max is Google’s media-and-camera-centered smart display.

Which ecosystem fits your household?
HomeView for Apple-centered homes
HomeView makes the most sense when the people using it already carry iPhones or iPads and have their home organized in Apple Home. Apple positions it as a shared device that still feels personal: it recognizes up to six people, then presents an individual Home Screen for each one. FaceTime, Messages, Calendar, Reminders and Find My are integrated alongside home controls.

Setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software. Personal-context Siri requests also require a paired iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence. That requirement is important: an older iPhone may be able to participate in setup but not provide every personal Siri function.
Nest Hub Max for Google-centered homes
Nest Hub Max is the better fit when Google Home already manages your lights, televisions, locks or other devices, or when Nest cameras are part of your security routine. Google says the display works with thousands of smart-home devices and supports personalized results for up to six users.
The built-in Nest Cam gives Nest Hub Max a role that HomeView’s published specifications do not clearly establish: it can show a live view, generate motion alerts and support video calls. If your household watches YouTube in the kitchen or uses Google Photos albums as a rotating display, Google’s services are also built into the experience.
Screen size and placement: compact dashboard or larger viewing area?
HomeView’s smaller footprint
The 7-inch HomeView is designed to sit on a table, shelf or bedside surface. Its aluminum tabletop body has a domed speaker base and a stainless-steel hinge for tilt adjustment. The tabletop version is offered in silver, starlight, rose pink and space grey. A separate wall-mounted model is offered in space grey and silver.

A smaller panel is useful when the display is mainly a control surface: tap a light, check a reminder, see a camera tile or start music without giving up much counter space. The wall-mounted option can keep a busy kitchen counter clear, but Apple sells the mount separately.
Nest Hub Max’s larger panel
Nest Hub Max uses a 10-inch, 1280 × 800 screen. The additional viewing area is better suited to recipes, video, photo albums and calls where people stand several feet away. It also takes more visual and physical space, so measure the shelf or counter before ordering.

- MEET ECHO SHOW 15 - A stunning 15.6" Full-HD (1080p) smart display that's perfect for your kitchen and ready to show you more. Use customizable widgets to keep your day on track, watch your favorite shows with Fire TV and powerful vibrant sound, and enjoy natural video calling, with 3.3x zoom and wide field of view.
- FAMILY ORGANIZATION HUB - See your top widgets at a glance, like your family’s calendars and to-do lists, local weather, smart home, and more.
- ALL YOUR FAVORITES, ALL RIGHT HERE - Built-in Fire TV unlocks endless entertainment, so you can enjoy your favorite content from thousands of apps like Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, Apple TV, and more (subscription may be required). Fire TV remote included. Plus, now you can quickly add a device to play music with Active Media - start playing a song in the kitchen, then add the living room and bedroom on the fly.
- SMART HOME CENTRAL - Control smart devices with your voice or a few taps using the smart home dashboard. Easily turn on all your living room lights at once or check live camera feeds to see what's happening around your home.
- YOUR FAVORITE MEMORIES ON DISPLAY - Brighten your space (and your day) by turning your home screen into a photo slideshow that displays your favorite memories. Auto curate your images and show off your favorite family memories.
For a kitchen, choose based on viewing distance rather than resolution alone. HomeView is easier to place in a tight workspace; Nest Hub Max is easier to read while you are moving around the room. Neither choice guarantees a better image in measured testing, because no independent head-to-head display test is established here.
Camera, calling and privacy differences
What Nest Hub Max’s camera adds
Nest Hub Max includes a 6.5-megapixel Nest Cam with a 127-degree wide field of view and auto-framing. The camera can keep a person in frame during Google Meet calls, provide Nest Cam live view and send motion alerts. Google also documents camera and microphone controls, so you can disable them when the display is in a private room.

Familiar-face alerts have geographic limits: Google says they are unavailable in Illinois and the European Union. Check your local rules before treating that feature as a security alert.
What Apple has and has not specified
Apple lists FaceTime support and a Home Camera face that can show up to nine camera feeds at once. The announcement does not provide a built-in camera resolution, field of view or physical camera-control specification for HomeView. If two-way video calling from the display is essential, verify the final hardware and privacy controls for the model sold in your market rather than assuming that FaceTime support describes the camera hardware.
HomeView’s camera dashboard is valuable for monitoring compatible home cameras, but it is not the same published capability as having a Nest Cam built into the display. That distinction matters if you want the screen itself to watch a room.

Media, assistants and everyday use
HomeView’s Apple services
HomeView combines Siri AI with Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple News, Apple TV, Messages, Calendar, Reminders and Find My. Apple also says compatible third-party apps can run on the display. Some content requires a subscription, and some experiences require a paired iPhone nearby.
The practical advantage is continuity. A household that already shares Apple services can use the same accounts, profiles and voice-assistant habits instead of maintaining a second media platform. The trade-off is that the most personal Siri requests depend on compatible Apple Intelligence hardware elsewhere in the home.
Nest Hub Max’s Google services
Nest Hub Max supports YouTube, YouTube TV, YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, Google Meet and Google Photos Live Albums. Ambient EQ adjusts the display’s appearance to room lighting, and the screen can show recipes, calendars and reminders.
YouTube TV and some music services require their own subscriptions. Google announced in 2025 that Gemini for Home would replace Google Assistant on smart displays and speakers, with Google Home Premium providing advanced Gemini capabilities for compatible devices. The rollout and exact benefits are software-dependent, so confirm the current offer before assigning a long-term value to those features.
Smart-home compatibility: Apple Home, Matter and Google Home
Using Matter accessories with HomeView
Yes. Apple says HomeView works with Matter accessories as well as Works with Apple Home products. It can control compatible cameras, thermostats, lights, locks and blinds by touch or Siri. Apple also identifies Home Collection products made with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric as compatible.

Matter compatibility does not mean every device exposes every function in every platform. Before buying an accessory, check that its Matter device type and required feature—such as a lock state, thermostat mode or camera stream—are supported in Apple Home. You may need an Apple Home hub or another Apple device already serving that role; Apple’s announcement does not list a complete hub requirement for every accessory type.
Using Google-compatible devices with Nest Hub Max
Google says Nest Hub Max works with thousands of smart-home devices, including lights, TVs and locks. It is the straightforward choice when those devices are already arranged in Google Home and you want one screen for scenes, cameras and controls.
In a mixed household, inventory your existing devices before choosing. A Matter logo alone does not tell you whether a device’s advanced features, camera feed or automation behavior will be identical across Apple Home and Google Home.
Personal profiles and shared-home behavior
HomeView profiles
HomeView is designed as a communal display with individual presentation. Apple says it can recognize up to six people and provide each with a personalized Home Screen. That is useful for calendars, reminders, media recommendations and Siri requests that should not be treated as belonging to the entire household.
Nest Hub Max profiles
Nest Hub Max also supports personalized results for up to six users, using Google’s profile and Face Match features. Personalization can make calendars, playlists and recommendations more useful, but camera-based recognition should be evaluated against your household’s privacy expectations and local restrictions.
Best Value
- Google Nest Hub 1st Gen H1A – 7-inch smart display with Google Assistant built in for hands-free help, smart home control, entertainment, and daily organization.
- Korean Spec Model – International/Korean version of the Google Nest Hub H1A. Language can be changed to English after setup through the Google Home app/device settings.
- Smart Home Control – Use voice commands or the touchscreen to control compatible smart lights, cameras, thermostats, plugs, speakers, and other Google Assistant devices.
- Entertainment & Daily Help – Stream music, watch videos, view Google Photos, check weather, set timers, manage reminders, follow recipes, and get answers hands-free.
- Compact 7" Display Design – Great for kitchens, bedrooms, desks, offices, counters, and nightstands with a clean modern smart display design.
Neither product should be treated as a completely private personal computer. Both are shared displays in a room, and the account, voice and camera settings deserve a deliberate review after installation.

| Cost or constraint | HomeView | Nest Hub Max |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware price stated in the available information | £299 listed for the UK; no other regional price is stated | $229 on Google Store listing |
| Current sales status | Preorders began October 13, 2026; Apple says availability begins November 13 in listed countries | Currently shown as “Out of stock” on Google Store |
| European Union | Not available for sale because Siri AI is unavailable in iOS there, according to Apple | Availability and feature restrictions vary; Google says familiar-face alerts are unavailable in the EU |
| Mounts and accessories | Wall mount and smart-home accessories sold separately | No bundled mount or accessory pricing is stated |
| Subscriptions | Some content requires subscriptions; exact services and prices vary | YouTube TV and some music services require subscriptions; Google Home Premium may be needed for advanced Gemini for Home capabilities |
Do not compare the two devices using hardware price alone. A wall mount, existing media subscriptions, compatible cameras and any premium assistant plan can change the first-year cost. For Nest Hub Max, stock is an immediate purchasing constraint; a listed price is not a promise that a unit can be shipped today.
What to check before you buy
- Map your household accounts. List whether calendars, music, video, photos and cameras are primarily Apple or Google. The platform used most often should usually determine the display.
- Count the devices you want to control. For Apple, confirm Works with Apple Home or Matter support. For Google, confirm the device is supported in Google Home and identify any camera or automation features you depend on.
- Measure the installation spot. Decide whether a compact tabletop display, a wall-mounted HomeView or a larger countertop screen will remain readable from your normal standing and cooking positions.
- Decide whether the display itself needs a camera. Nest Hub Max has a specified built-in Nest Cam. HomeView’s published announcement confirms FaceTime and camera-feed viewing but does not state equivalent camera hardware details.
- Check regional and stock status on the day of purchase. HomeView’s European Union restriction and Nest Hub Max’s “Out of stock” status can override an otherwise good feature match.
- Add recurring and one-time costs. Include subscriptions, a HomeView wall mount if needed, compatible cameras and any Google Home Premium plan you expect to use.
Which display is better for a kitchen?
Pick HomeView for a compact Apple kitchen. Its smaller footprint, tilt-adjustable tabletop design, Apple Home controls and Matter support suit a counter where the display is mainly a command center. Wall mounting can preserve workspace, provided you budget for the separate mount.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsPick Nest Hub Max for a video-first kitchen. The larger panel is easier to read from farther away, while YouTube, recipe-oriented features, Google Photos and the built-in camera add value when the display doubles as entertainment and a call station.
Neither product has a documented independent test proving superior sound, screen quality or responsiveness. Choose on ecosystem, viewing distance and camera needs rather than an unsupported performance verdict.
Who should buy Apple HomeView?
- You already use iPhone or iPad and Apple Home as the household standard.
- FaceTime, Apple media and individual Home Screens matter more than YouTube-centric viewing.
- You want to control Matter and Works with Apple Home accessories from one compact panel.
- You prefer a tabletop or wall-mounted form factor and do not need a specified built-in security camera.
- You live in a market where Apple sells HomeView and can meet the compatible-device requirements.
Who should buy Google Nest Hub Max?
- Google Home and Nest cameras already organize your smart home.
- You want a built-in Nest Cam for live view, motion alerts and auto-framed Google Meet calls.
- You need a larger screen for recipes, video and photo albums viewed from across a room.
- Your household relies on YouTube, Google Photos or Google Meet.
- You accept that some services require subscriptions and that Gemini for Home features may change as Google updates the software.
When neither is the right immediate purchase
Pause if you are in the European Union and specifically want HomeView: Apple says it is not available for sale there because Siri AI is unavailable in iOS. Pause if you need a Nest Hub Max immediately, because Google’s Store currently marks it out of stock. Also pause if your home is split evenly between Apple and Google and most of your accessories are not clearly compatible with both platforms; buying another ecosystem’s display can create duplicate apps, accounts and automations.
Bottom line
HomeView is the Apple-ecosystem choice: compact, profile-aware and built around Apple Home, Siri, FaceTime and Matter. Nest Hub Max is the Google-ecosystem choice: larger, media-focused and equipped with a documented Nest Cam and stronger Google service integration. Match the display to the platform your household already uses, then verify regional availability, stock, accessories and subscriptions before paying.
