Choose Apple HomeView if your household uses iPhones, Apple Home and FaceTime and you want a premium shared screen with personal profiles. Choose Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) if price, kitchen timers, routines and a camera-free design matter most. Choose Amazon Echo Show when Alexa, Echo speakers, Ring devices or Amazon services already run your home—but compare a specific Echo Show model, because screen size, cameras, speakers, price and mounting options vary widely.

HomeView is Apple’s new 7-inch smart display, not an iPad. It starts at $299 in the United States and begins shipping in listed launch markets on November 13, 2026. Nest Hub (2nd gen) is listed at $99.99 by Google. Echo Show pricing depends on the exact model and current promotion. The right purchase is therefore less about a universal winner than about matching your phone, smart-home platform, privacy expectations and preferred placement.

What each smart display actually is

Apple HomeView

HomeView is a dedicated household display built around Apple Home, Siri AI and Apple services. Apple describes a 7-inch Liquid Retina screen, FaceTime, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple News, Apple TV and compatible third-party audio and video apps. A tabletop version tilts on a stainless-steel hinge, and Apple also offers a wall-mounted model. The tabletop unit is available in four colors.

HomeView recognizes up to six household users. Each person can receive a personalized Home Screen, while personal content is gated by face recognition plus a nearby recently unlocked paired iPhone or iPad. Apple positions the device as a shared dashboard for camera feeds, thermostats, lights, locks and blinds, with support for Works with Apple Home accessories and Matter devices.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Amazon Echo Show

Echo Show is a product family rather than one fixed specification. Current models differ in display size, camera hardware, speaker design, price, tabletop shape and mounting choices. Some are compact clock-and-timer displays; others are larger video-call or entertainment screens. A fair comparison requires identifying the model number and generation before judging its camera, audio, calling or privacy behavior.

The family is designed around Alexa and Amazon services. It is the natural fit for homes that already use Echo speakers, Ring equipment, Alexa routines or Amazon media. Shoppers who want many size and price choices will find more variety here than in Apple’s single HomeView launch design, but that variety also makes generic Echo Show claims unreliable.

Google Nest Hub (2nd gen)

Nest Hub (2nd gen) is a compact Google Home display for timers, reminders, routines, music, video and household control. Google highlights Netflix, YouTube, music, Google Photos, broadcast messages, Sunrise Alarm, Sleep Sensing, Nest camera feeds and control of thousands of compatible devices. It has no camera; Quick Gestures use Motion Sense so you can pause media or dismiss an alert without touching the screen, and a physical switch disables the microphone.

Which ecosystem should control your home?

Choose Apple HomeView for an Apple-first household

HomeView makes the most sense when most residents carry iPhones or iPads and your accessories already appear in Apple Home. Face recognition can switch the display to the right person’s Home Screen, and the nearby-unlocked-device requirement adds a second gate before personal information is shown. Apple services are available without adapting an existing iPhone or iPad to a different assistant.

Matter broadens the accessory pool, but compatibility is still determined by whether a product works with Apple Home, not simply by the presence of a Matter logo. Check each light, lock, thermostat or camera for the Apple Home badge and confirm which functions are exposed.

Choose Echo Show for an Alexa-centered home

Echo Show is strongest when Alexa routines, Echo speakers, Ring cameras or Amazon accounts already coordinate your home. Alexa can provide a common voice-control layer across devices from many manufacturers. Because the family spans several screen sizes and generations, decide first whether you need a compact timer display, a larger video screen, a particular camera arrangement or a wall-friendly design. Then verify that model’s software support and current price.

Choose Nest Hub for Google Home and Google services

Nest Hub (2nd gen) fits homes using Google Home, Google Photos, YouTube and Google calendars or reminders. It can surface routines and reminders, show Nest camera feeds and control thousands of compatible devices. Its camera-free design is useful in bedrooms, kitchens and other rooms where a lens would be unwelcome.

Display, placement and everyday visibility

HomeView’s screen and mounting choices

Apple specifies a 7-inch Liquid Retina display with automatic brightness ranging from 0.3 nits minimum to 500 nits maximum. That gives the screen a defined low-light floor for nighttime use and a stated daylight ceiling, although independent measurements of reflections, viewing angles and color accuracy are not yet established. The tabletop hinge lets you angle the display toward a counter, desk or sofa. A wall-mounted version is available for homes that want a fixed control panel.

HomeView can show up to nine camera feeds simultaneously, making it suitable for a security-monitoring view or a multi-room household dashboard. The number describes the displayed feeds; it does not establish camera quality, recording behavior or network performance for any particular camera brand.

Echo Show’s model-by-model trade-offs

Echo Show displays range from small screens intended for clocks and timers to larger panels designed for video calls and media. Mounting, swivel behavior, camera shutters, screen resolution and speaker output all depend on the selected generation. Do not assume that a feature advertised for one Echo Show carries over to another. Read the exact model’s specification and privacy documentation before buying.

Nest Hub’s compact tabletop format

Nest Hub (2nd gen) is designed for a bedside table, kitchen counter or shelf rather than a wall installation. Its small footprint keeps it easy to place near a cooking workspace or alarm clock. Google does not position it as a camera monitor with a built-in lens; Nest camera feeds are viewed from compatible cameras elsewhere in the home.

Calling, profiles and household sharing

HomeView is the clearest choice for an Apple household that calls relatives through FaceTime. Center Stage keeps a caller framed during supported video calls, while the six-user recognition system separates personal screens and content. Apple’s design goal is a display that is shared physically but individualized when the right person approaches.

Echo Show calling depends on the chosen model, Alexa account setup and supported calling services. Some models include cameras and video-call functions; others are primarily for voice interaction and information. Confirm whether the intended contacts use compatible Alexa calling, a linked service or another platform.

Nest Hub’s calling experience depends on Google’s current supported account and communication setup. Because the second-generation device has no camera, it cannot provide the same kind of built-in two-way video conversation as a camera-equipped display. It remains useful for household announcements, broadcast messages and voice communication through supported Google features.

Smart-home control and camera feeds

HomeView controls

Apple presents HomeView as a central panel for lights, thermostats, locks, blinds and compatible cameras. Apple Home scenes and accessories can be surfaced on the display, while Matter support allows a wider range of certified devices to join the home when they also expose the functions Apple Home supports. Check whether an accessory requires a separate bridge, Thread border router or subscription before assuming every feature will appear.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Echo Show controls

Alexa routines can combine commands across compatible lights, plugs, sensors, cameras and appliances. Echo Show models may display camera feeds or doorbell views, but the available view, microphone behavior and camera privacy control are model-specific. Ring integration is a reason to consider Echo Show for an Alexa household, yet it should be evaluated against the exact model’s screen and camera specification.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Nest Hub controls

Google says Nest Hub controls thousands of compatible devices and can display Nest camera feeds. The device is useful as a room-level status panel: a glance can show a camera, a routine or a reminder without opening a phone app. Compatibility still depends on the product, region, account and functions exposed by Google Home, so check the device listing before purchase.

Privacy and camera decisions

HomeView

Apple says HomeView uses face recognition for personal profiles and protects personal content with Secure Exclaves and Private Cloud Compute architecture. The nearby recently unlocked paired iPhone or iPad requirement is part of the access model. These are Apple’s stated design and security claims; independent privacy audits, long-term behavior and response latency were not established at launch.

Nest Hub

Nest Hub (2nd gen) has no camera. Quick Gestures use Motion Sense, and a physical switch cuts the microphone. That combination is attractive for bedrooms or households that want hands-free controls without placing a lens in the room. The absence of a camera also means video calling from the display is not its role.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Echo Show

Privacy depends on the particular Echo Show. Some models include cameras and physical shutters or software controls; others have different hardware. Before buying, verify whether the model has a lens, how the shutter works, what the microphone switch controls and which wake-word or cloud settings are available. Treat the family name as insufficient evidence for a privacy comparison.

Kitchen timers, recipes and routines

All three platforms can support the basic kitchen jobs readers usually expect: setting timers, answering voice questions, controlling lights and playing audio. The practical difference is the surrounding ecosystem. Nest Hub’s documented features include timers, reminders, routines and hands-free Quick Gestures, making it a strong low-cost kitchen companion. HomeView is better when the kitchen also needs Apple Home scenes, a glanceable camera grid or FaceTime with an iPhone-owning family member. Echo Show is sensible when Alexa already controls the kitchen’s plugs, lights and appliances.

Recipe catalogs, on-screen instructions and third-party cooking services can change by region, account and software version. Confirm the service you actually use rather than assuming that a voice assistant’s general recipe capability guarantees a particular site or format on the display.

Music, video and photos

HomeView supports Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple News, Apple TV and compatible third-party audio and video apps. Its value is highest for households already paying for or organizing media through Apple services. The 7-inch screen is suited to controls, short viewing sessions and camera feeds rather than replacing a television.

Google highlights Netflix, YouTube, music and Google Photos on Nest Hub. The display can rotate through photos, play background audio and surface visual responses from Google services. Google also claims the enhanced speaker has 50 percent more bass than the original Nest Hub. That is a manufacturer comparison, not an independent listening test.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Echo Show media support varies with model, region and Amazon account. Screen size and speaker hardware can make a larger model more suitable for video or music, but those benefits cannot be assigned to the entire family without naming the model.

Price, value and launch timing

Apple lists HomeView at a $299 starting price in the United States. Pre-orders began October 13, 2026, and availability begins November 13, 2026, in Apple’s listed launch markets. Apple says the product is not available in the European Union at launch because Siri AI is unavailable there. Inventory and regional eligibility should be checked at the time of purchase.

Google lists Nest Hub (2nd gen) at $99.99 at the time of access in 2026. Google’s product page does not establish a new-generation release timetable, and both price and stock can change. The enclosure contains 54 percent recycled plastic according to Google’s 2021 product claim.

Echo Show has no single family-wide price. Promotions, screen size and generation can change the total substantially. Compare the live price of the exact model, then check whether the camera, speaker, mounting hardware and calling features justify the difference from Nest Hub or HomeView.

Setup checklists

Setting up HomeView

  1. Confirm that your launch country is supported and that you have an Apple account, compatible iPhone or iPad and a home Wi-Fi network.
  2. Update the paired iPhone or iPad and set up Apple Home with the accessories you want to control.
  3. Place HomeView on its hinge or install the wall-mounted model using the appropriate hardware; position it where face recognition and voice pickup are practical.
  4. Follow the on-screen pairing process, then invite household members and configure recognition for up to six people.
  5. Add Matter accessories only after checking that each device also supports the Apple Home functions you need.
  6. Connect cameras, scenes, thermostats, lights, locks and blinds, and test access while the paired iPhone is both nearby and recently unlocked.

Setting up Echo Show

  1. Choose the exact Echo Show generation after checking its display size, camera, shutter, speaker and mounting details.
  2. Sign in with the Amazon account that owns your Alexa routines and compatible services.
  3. Place or mount the unit, connect it to Wi-Fi and install any available software update.
  4. Review the model’s camera, microphone, wake-word, communication and drop-in settings before inviting household members.
  5. Discover Alexa-compatible devices, assign them to rooms and build routines for lights, plugs, cameras and appliances.
  6. Test every camera view and calling method from the rooms where you will use them; features can differ by model and region.

Setting up Nest Hub (2nd gen)

  1. Sign in with the Google account used for Google Home, reminders, calendars and media subscriptions.
  2. Use the Google Home app to add the display to a room and connect it to Wi-Fi.
  3. Set the physical microphone switch according to your privacy preference and configure Voice Match if you want personalized results.
  4. Link music, video, Google Photos and compatible smart-home services.
  5. Add routines, timers, Sunrise Alarm or Sleep Sensing only after reviewing what data each feature uses and where the device is placed.
  6. Pair Nest cameras and other compatible devices, then test voice commands and Quick Gestures from your normal kitchen or bedside position.

Which display fits common household scenarios?

You own several iPhones and use FaceTime

HomeView is the logical match. Its Apple services, FaceTime support, Center Stage and personal profiles align with the devices your household already carries. The premium price is easier to justify when the display becomes both a family dashboard and a shared calling point.

You want the least expensive documented option

Nest Hub (2nd gen) has the lowest documented price in this comparison at $99.99. It supplies timers, routines, media, reminders and smart-home control without adding a camera. Confirm current stock and pricing because Google’s listing can change.

You already run Alexa and Ring

Start with Echo Show, but select the model before comparing. Existing Alexa routines and Ring cameras reduce setup work, while the family’s range of screen sizes lets you choose a compact or larger display. Verify privacy controls and calling behavior on that specific unit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You want a camera-free bedroom display

Nest Hub (2nd gen) is the clearest fit because it has no camera and includes a microphone switch. HomeView can protect personal content through its stated recognition and device-gating design, but it is still a camera-capable smart display ecosystem when paired with household cameras. Echo Show suitability depends entirely on the model’s camera hardware and shutter.

You need a wall-mounted control panel

HomeView has a separate wall-mounted model, while Echo Show mounting depends on the chosen product. Nest Hub is designed primarily as a compact tabletop device. Include installation, cable routing and the cost of any mount when comparing total ownership.

Optional HomeView mounting and accessory costs

Apple names Schneider Home as the supplier for HomeView mounting accessories. The listed U.S. starting prices are $59.95 for a USB-C Wall Connector and $79.95 for an AC Wired option. Apple lists a PoE Wired option at $129.95, planned for early 2027. These are accessory prices, not additions to the $299 tabletop-display price, and availability may vary by region.

Plan the rest of the system around the room: Matter lights and plugs, Apple Home-compatible cameras, thermostats, locks and any required bridges or hubs. A display cannot add compatibility that the underlying accessory does not provide.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is still unknown

HomeView is a first-generation product announced in October 2026. Independent testing of audio quality, display calibration, response latency, advertising behavior, battery or long-term reliability was not available at launch. Apple’s published brightness, user-count and camera-feed figures are specifications, not a substitute for hands-on testing.

No single Echo Show specification can stand in for the family, and the Nest Hub price and availability can change. Treat comparative claims about sound, speed, image quality or reliability as unverified unless they come from testing of the exact models you are considering.

Verdict

For an iPhone and Apple Home household, HomeView is the most coherent choice: it combines personal profiles, FaceTime, Apple services, Matter support and a premium shared dashboard. Its $299 price, first-generation status and limited launch geography make it a deliberate purchase rather than a default recommendation.

Nest Hub (2nd gen) is the value and privacy-oriented pick. It costs far less, has no camera, includes a microphone switch, handles timers and routines well, and works naturally with Google Home. Choose it when those strengths matter more than FaceTime or a wall-mounted Apple display.

Echo Show is the right direction for an Alexa-centered home, especially one using Ring or several Echo speakers. Because capabilities differ by generation, the final decision should be made only after checking one exact model’s camera, screen, speaker, mounting, calling and current-price details.
