Apple Device Management: Addigy vs. Jamf for IT Teams

By Freedom251 Team · · 13 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Short answer: Addigy is usually the better operational fit for a lean IT team or managed service provider that runs several Apple tenants and wants persistent visibility, direct support, and a published per-device starting price. Jamf Pro is usually the stronger fit for an enterprise Apple program that needs deep administration, Smart Groups, Declarative Device Management (DDM) Blueprints, Self Service+, and a broad identity and security ecosystem. Neither is universally “better”; the right choice depends on tenancy, administrator capacity, integrations, compliance requirements, device mix, and migration effort.

What Addigy and Jamf Pro are designed to do

Both products manage Apple hardware through Apple’s management frameworks and can enroll devices automatically through Apple Business Manager. The important difference is the operating model around those frameworks.

Addigy’s operating model

Addigy describes itself as Apple-only and multi-tenant. Its platform combines Apple’s MDM protocol with an Addigy agent that maintains an additional management connection. Apple MDM handles configuration settings and commands such as FileVault, remote wipe, and remote lock; the agent supplies the extra connection used for ongoing management and visibility. Addigy’s comparison material describes a persistent one-minute device connection, so administrators can work with a live channel rather than waiting for a conventional periodic check-in.

The platform is aimed at organizations that administer multiple customer or business environments from one console. Addigy lists no device minimum, included onboarding, direct engineer support, scripting, custom packages with dependency chains, Smart Groups, dynamic scoping, a full REST API, and built-in CIS, NIST, and DISA benchmarks.

Jamf Pro’s operating model

Jamf Pro is positioned as complete Apple device management for organizations that need extensive administration and security workflows. Its documented capabilities include zero-touch deployment, Smart Groups, inventory, application lifecycle management, Self Service+, compliance benchmarks, remote security commands, and policies and scripts. Jamf also documents Blueprints based on Apple Declarative Device Management, which lets administrators describe desired device state using Apple’s DDM capabilities.

Jamf’s ecosystem includes integrations with Microsoft Entra, Power BI, Security Copilot, Sentinel, Google Workspace and Cloud Identity, Okta, and its Marketplace. Jamf’s Apple integration documentation covers Apple Business Manager and, for education, Apple School Manager workflows.

When Addigy is the better fit

You operate multiple tenants

Native multi-tenancy matters when one IT group supports several companies, subsidiaries, or customer environments. It can reduce the need to maintain separate management instances and makes tenant boundaries part of the product model. A managed service provider can keep policies and device groups scoped to each customer while retaining a central administrative view.

Your team needs a live operational channel

Addigy’s agent-plus-MDM design is useful when an administrator needs more than Apple MDM’s configuration and command path. The persistent one-minute connection described by Addigy is intended to provide frequent state and command communication. That can help an operator see whether an agent is present, deliver scripts, and investigate a device without waiting for a longer check-in cycle. The practical value depends on network reachability, agent health, and the specific action being performed; Apple MDM remains the path for Apple-native commands such as FileVault, lock, and wipe.

You need flexible packaging and API automation

Addigy lists custom packages and dependency chains for applications or supporting components. Dependencies let an administrator express ordering requirements—for example, installing a prerequisite before a package that relies on it. Scripting, dynamic scoping, and the full REST API support automation outside the console. These features suit teams that already maintain scripts, configuration packages, or service-desk workflows and want to connect them to device state.

You have limited implementation capacity

Addigy advertises included onboarding and direct engineer support. For a small team, that can be more consequential than a feature count: the first policy set, enrollment design, and migration plan are less likely to depend entirely on internal engineering time. Confirm the scope of included onboarding and the support tier in a quote, because marketing descriptions do not establish response times or contractual service levels.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You want a clearly stated entry price

Addigy’s current pricing page accessed in 2026 lists a starting price of $8.25 per Mac per month. iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs are separate add-on devices. The number is a starting price, not a guaranteed quote for every device mix, support level, term, or region.

When Jamf Pro is the better fit

You run a mature enterprise Apple program

Jamf Pro’s documented feature set is broad: zero-touch deployment, inventory, application lifecycle management, policies and scripts, Smart Groups, Self Service+, compliance benchmarks, remote security commands, and DDM-based Blueprints. These components support a program with dedicated administrators, formal change control, and many device and user populations.

You need declarative management

Blueprints based on Apple Declarative Device Management let an administrator define desired state rather than relying only on imperative, one-command-at-a-time policies. DDM does not eliminate the need for enrollment, inventory, scripts, or troubleshooting, but it gives a modern Apple-native way to express configuration and compliance intent. Verify which macOS and iOS features in your target fleet support the DDM declarations you plan to use.

You want employee-facing self service

Self Service+ provides a documented Jamf channel for distributing approved applications, resources, and actions to users. This can reduce service-desk tickets for routine software requests while preserving administrative control. Design the catalog, approval rules, and update ownership before treating self service as a deployment strategy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Your identity and security stack is already broad

Jamf publicly lists integrations with Microsoft Entra, Power BI, Security Copilot, Sentinel, Google Workspace and Cloud Identity, Okta, and its Marketplace. Those named integrations can matter when device compliance, identity, analytics, and endpoint security are already standardized around those systems. Confirm the exact connector, licensing, data flow, and supported versions for each integration during procurement.

You manage Apple education workflows

Jamf’s Apple integration documentation includes Apple School Manager workflows such as shared iPad, Classroom, and volume purchasing. It also documents Apple Business Manager integration for Automated Device Enrollment, app and book distribution, restrictions, and managed Apple IDs. If your organization is a school or district, map student, staff, shared-device, and purchasing processes before selecting a platform.

Capability-by-capability analysis

Multi-tenancy and administration

Addigy’s native multi-tenant model is a structural advantage for service providers or internal teams with many separately governed organizations. Jamf Pro can support complex enterprise structures, but the supplied Jamf material emphasizes enterprise administration and Apple workflows rather than native MSP multi-tenancy. Ask each vendor to demonstrate role boundaries, delegated administration, reporting, and policy inheritance using your actual tenant or business-unit structure.

Targeting and policy scope

Both products document Smart Groups or equivalent dynamic targeting. Addigy additionally lists dynamic scoping, while Jamf documents Smart Groups and DDM Blueprints. Build a test matrix around the attributes you actually use—operating-system version, ownership, department, encryption state, enrollment profile, and application presence—then verify how quickly membership changes affect a policy.

Packages, scripts, and dependencies

Addigy explicitly lists custom packages and dependency chains alongside scripting. Jamf documents policies and scripts and supports application lifecycle management. If your deployment requires a strict sequence, test installation order, rollback behavior, retries, and what an administrator sees when a prerequisite fails. Neither product description alone establishes how every package format or script runtime behaves in your environment.

Inventory and compliance

Jamf Pro lists inventory management and compliance benchmarks. Addigy lists CIS, NIST, and DISA benchmarks. Compare the controls, evidence fields, remediation actions, and export formats against the framework your auditors require. A benchmark label is not proof that every control is automatically remediated; determine which controls are monitored, which are enforced, and which require a script or a separate security product.

Security commands

Apple MDM provides core commands such as remote lock, remote wipe, and FileVault configuration. Addigy explains that its agent adds a second management connection, while Jamf lists remote security commands within its platform. Test commands against supervised and unsupervised devices, offline devices, activation-lock scenarios, and devices with users logged out. Record who can issue each command and what confirmation or audit trail is produced.

Deployment: a practical decision path

Common foundation: Apple Business Manager

Both platforms support Apple Business Manager for Automated Device Enrollment. Regardless of the product, establish ownership and enrollment prerequisites first:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Verify that every corporate Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV is assigned to the correct Apple Business Manager organization or reseller account.
  2. Connect Apple Business Manager to the chosen management service and create an enrollment profile with the required supervision, authentication, and setup-assistant choices.
  3. Define network access, certificates, identity integration, application distribution, and minimum operating-system versions before enrolling production devices.
  4. Enroll a small pilot that includes each hardware generation, operating-system version, network type, and user role.
  5. Test encryption, restrictions, software installation, inventory updates, remote lock, remote wipe, and recovery procedures before expanding the scope.

Addigy deployment considerations

  1. Design tenant boundaries, administrator roles, and policy inheritance before importing or enrolling devices.
  2. Install or deploy the Addigy agent in the way supported for your enrollment state, while retaining Apple MDM enrollment for Apple-native commands.
  3. Create Smart Groups and dynamic scopes for operating-system, ownership, compliance, and application conditions.
  4. Use dependency chains for packages that require prerequisites, and stage scripts in a non-production group.
  5. Connect the REST API to ticketing, reporting, or approval workflows only after defining authentication, rate limits, and change ownership.
  6. Use the included onboarding or direct engineering support to review the first production policy set, then document the resulting runbook internally.

Jamf Pro deployment considerations

  1. Configure Apple Business Manager Automated Device Enrollment and define enrollment profiles for each user and device class.
  2. Build inventory collection, Smart Groups, policies, and application lifecycle rules before enabling broad scopes.
  3. Use DDM-based Blueprints where the required Apple operating-system features support declarative state, and retain policies or scripts for tasks that are not declarative.
  4. Design the Self Service+ catalog, ownership, approvals, and update cadence for employee-facing software.
  5. Connect identity, analytics, and security integrations in a test tenant, then confirm least-privilege access and data flows.
  6. If you need implementation assistance, include Jamf Premium Services in the project plan and quote rather than assuming onboarding is included in the base offer.

Pricing and total-cost questions

Published prices are not directly comparable because the commercial models differ and the Jamf business page uses contact-sales pricing for its principal offers.

Item Documented figure or model How to interpret it
Addigy Mac management Starts at $8.25 per Mac per month; current pricing page accessed in 2026 Starting price; confirm term, support, features, region, and whether your device mix changes the quote
Addigy iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV Separate add-on devices Price the full fleet, not only Macs
Addigy trial 14 days with full platform access Use the trial to test enrollment, agent reachability, commands, scopes, and reporting on representative devices
Jamf for Mac and Jamf for Mobile Current business pricing is contact-sales Request a quote for the same Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV counts and the same service scope
Jamf trial 14 days Confirm which products and support resources are included in the trial
Jamf older product-plan PDF $7.89 per macOS device per month billed annually, with a 25-user minimum; published 2023 Historical reference only, not current list pricing
Jamf Now segment Organizations with fewer than 25 employees A stated target segment for Jamf Now, not a claim about Jamf Pro limits

For a defensible comparison, request both quotes using one worksheet: device counts by platform, enrollment volume, support tier, onboarding or implementation services, identity and security integrations, data-residency requirements, contract term, renewal rules, and any minimums. A lower per-device number can be outweighed by implementation labor, separate mobile add-ons, or a required security product.

Choosing by team scenario

Small internal IT team with a mostly-Mac fleet

Start with Addigy if persistent visibility, direct engineering support, no device minimum, and a published Mac starting price address your immediate constraints. Start with Jamf Pro if your small team already depends on a larger identity or security ecosystem, needs Self Service+, or is standardizing on DDM Blueprints. Run both trials against the same five to ten representative devices before committing.

Managed service provider

Addigy’s native multi-tenancy, dynamic scoping, agent connection, and API are directly aligned with an MSP operating model. Validate delegated administration, customer reporting, tenant isolation, and support escalation in the contract. Jamf Pro can still be appropriate when a customer requires Jamf-specific workflows or integrations, but model the operational cost of separate customer environments and service processes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Large enterprise with security and identity dependencies

Jamf Pro is the more natural starting point when Microsoft, Google, Okta, analytics, SIEM, endpoint-security, and Marketplace integrations are procurement requirements. Addigy may remain attractive for Apple-only operations that prioritize live device management and direct support, but document how every external control will be integrated or evidenced.

School or district

Favor the platform that best matches Apple School Manager, shared iPad, Classroom, managed Apple ID, and volume-purchasing workflows. Jamf documents these education workflows; require a demonstration using your student, staff, shared-device, and app-licensing processes rather than relying on a generic feature list.

Migrating from Jamf Pro to Addigy

A migration is a change to enrollment, policy ownership, scripts, application delivery, and support procedures—not a simple console swap. Addigy advertises migration services for customers moving from Jamf, Kandji, or Mosyle, but success still depends on your inventory and change plan.

  1. Inventory the current state. Export devices, users, enrollment profiles, certificates, configuration profiles, policies, scripts, packages, Smart Groups, exclusions, and integration dependencies from Jamf.
  2. Classify what must be rebuilt. Separate Apple-native settings and commands from Jamf-specific policies, scripts, Self Service content, and reports. Map each item to Addigy MDM, the Addigy agent, a package, a script, or a replacement workflow.
  3. Preserve Apple Business Manager assignments. Confirm that devices remain assigned to the correct organization and that the new Automated Device Enrollment profile produces the intended supervision and setup behavior.
  4. Pilot by risk, not convenience. Include a standard Mac, a FileVault-protected Mac, a remote worker, a mobile device if applicable, and a device with critical business software.
  5. Run parallel validation. Compare encryption state, restrictions, application versions, inventory fields, compliance evidence, and remote-command behavior before moving the next group.
  6. Schedule cutover and recovery. Define how a failed enrollment is returned to the prior state, who can issue a wipe, how certificates are rotated, and how users receive support during the change.
  7. Retire Jamf deliberately. Remove old profiles and agents only after the new management connection, reporting, and emergency commands are confirmed for every migrated group.

Pitfalls that change the decision

  • Comparing only Mac prices: Addigy lists iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV as separate add-on devices, while Jamf’s current Mac and Mobile offers require a quote.
  • Assuming an agent replaces MDM: Addigy’s documentation distinguishes Apple MDM commands from the additional agent connection; both layers must be planned.
  • Treating a benchmark as automatic compliance: Ask which CIS, NIST, or DISA controls are measured, enforced, remediated, and exportable.
  • Ignoring enrollment ownership: Automated Device Enrollment depends on Apple Business Manager assignments and the correct enrollment profile.
  • Overlooking implementation services: Addigy advertises included onboarding; Jamf’s current guidance recommends Premium Services. Confirm the actual scope in writing.
  • Using historical Jamf pricing as a quote: The $7.89 figure and 25-user minimum come from a 2023 PDF and are not current list pricing.
  • Assuming feature names guarantee identical behavior: Test Smart Group membership, DDM support, script execution, retries, offline behavior, and audit records on your operating-system versions.

  • Can the platform represent your tenant, subsidiary, or customer boundaries without unsafe policy inheritance?
  • Can it enroll every Apple device through your Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager process?
  • Does it provide the live visibility, inventory freshness, and offline recovery your help desk needs?
  • Can your administrators express required targeting, package dependencies, scripts, and approvals?
  • Are DDM Blueprints, Self Service+, or named identity and security integrations mandatory?
  • Can the platform produce evidence for your CIS, NIST, DISA, or internal controls?
  • Do onboarding, support, data residency, contract terms, and device minimums fit your budget and operating model?
  • Can you migrate or recover without losing encryption, certificates, user access, or emergency lock and wipe capability?

Choose Addigy when the first group of questions—multi-tenancy, persistent connection, API-driven operations, direct support, and predictable per-Mac entry pricing—dominates. Choose Jamf Pro when enterprise Apple administration, DDM Blueprints, Self Service+, education workflows, or broad identity and security integrations dominate. Obtain current quotes and validate the critical workflows in a time-boxed trial before signing.
