The exact model number matters. Kmart’s user manual identifies the LD-K3041A, while later 1.7-litre Anko listings use different feature sets. A similar appearance or the same nominal capacity does not prove that another listing has the same controller, safety system, filter or internal parts.

Capacity, power and everyday practicality
1.7-litre capacity
A 1.7-litre maximum fill is a conventional family-kettle size. It can cover several mugs or a saucepan fill without running multiple cycles. 1850–2200 W rating
The 1850–2200 W range indicates a fairly typical mains-powered kettle load. Actual boiling time depends on starting temperature, water volume, supply voltage, altitude, mineral scale and how the thermostat cycles. The available data does not provide a controlled boiling-time result, decibel measurement or energy-efficiency score, so no precise speed or noise claim can be made from the public specifications.

Does the LD-K3041A switch off automatically?

The model’s public CHOICE entry does not expose the detailed safety or performance fields, and the available owner reports include complaints that some units failed to switch off, boiled dry or worked only a few times. Those reports are individual experiences rather than a controlled test, but they are serious enough that you should not assume automatic shut-off is working simply because the kettle is labelled electric.

If you have the kettle in hand, supervise the first several boils. Fill it between the minimum and maximum marks, place it on its base, switch it on and remain nearby. It should stop heating after the water boils. If steam continues for an unusual time, the switch does not release, the body becomes excessively hot, or the kettle boils dry, unplug it immediately when safe and stop using it. Do not defeat, bridge or repair a thermal cut-out yourself.
Automatic shut-off and dry-boil protection are listed on some current Anko 1.7-litre products, but those listings are not proof that the LD-K3041A has identical protection. Check the model label on the base and the instructions supplied with that exact unit.
Reliability evidence: what owners report
ProductReview.com.au verifies the model number LD-K3041A, identifies the Kmart Anko 1.7L Kettle as discontinued and shows a 2.3 out of 5 rating from 25 reviews. The comments are mixed. Some owners describe the kettle as quiet, quick and good value. Others report a lid that sticks, failure to switch off, boiling dry or a unit that operated only a few times.

What CHOICE does—and does not—show publicly
CHOICE lists the product’s physical specifications and price, but its detailed expert rating, ease-of-use assessment, noise result, boil-performance result, energy-efficiency result, decibel figure and boiling-time fields are member-only on the public page. There is therefore no responsible basis for quoting a CHOICE score, claiming a measured boil time or ranking the LD-K3041A against other kettles on test performance.
For a buyer, this means the decision must rely on the published dimensions and electrical rating, the exact manual, the seller’s return terms and an inspection or supervised test of the individual kettle.
Buying an old-stock or second-hand LD-K3041A
Because the model is reported as discontinued, you may encounter used units, clearance stock or listings with incomplete packaging. Use this checklist before paying:

- Confirm the model: Read the rating label and verify “LD-K3041A”; do not rely on a seller’s generic “Anko 1.7L” description.
- Check the body: Reject units with dents that affect the base, sharp metal edges, corrosion, melted plastic or a loose handle.
- Inspect the lid: Open and close it repeatedly. It should move freely, latch securely and remain attached at the hinge.
- Examine the cord and plug: Look for cuts, flattened insulation, exposed conductors, scorch marks or a loose plug. Any of these is a reason not to use it.
- Inspect the base: The kettle should sit flat and make stable contact with its power base. Keep the connector dry.
- Test the water gauge: Confirm that the window is readable and that the level marks are not obscured by staining or cracking.
- Verify switching: During a supervised boil, confirm that the switch releases and heating stops. If it does not, disconnect power and return the kettle.
- Ask for return rights: A written receipt and a practical return window are more valuable than a small discount on an appliance with uncertain history.
Never buy a kettle with a missing rating label, altered plug, improvised cord repair or unknown electrical history. A cheap appliance is not a bargain if the safety controls cannot be verified.

First-use and safe-operation procedure
- Place the base on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface near a suitable wall socket.
- Remove packaging and rinse the interior. Do not immerse the base, plug or power cord in water.
- Fill with clean water between the 0.5-litre minimum and 1.7-litre maximum marks. Keep water below the lid opening and do not overfill.
- Close the hinged lid fully before switching on. Keep the spout pointed away from people and electrical equipment.
- Switch on while remaining nearby. Watch for leaks, unusual smells, excessive steam or electrical noise.
- After the first boil, allow the kettle to stop, then discard the water. Repeat a rinse boil if the manual instructs you to do so.
- Unplug or switch off at the wall when the kettle is not in use, especially if the automatic shut-off behaviour has not been verified.
Steam and freshly boiled water can cause burns. Lift the kettle by its handle, pour slowly and keep children away from the spout and lid. Do not operate it empty, do not open the lid while boiling and do not move it by pulling the cord.
Cleaning and scale management
Mineral scale can accumulate on the heating surface and around the lid or spout, particularly in hard-water areas. Scale may increase boiling time and produce flakes in the water, but the supplied evidence does not establish a specific descaling interval for this model. Follow the LD-K3041A manual and use a method approved for electric kettles. Never use abrasive tools on the stainless steel, and rinse thoroughly after any descaling treatment.
Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth after unplugging and cooling the kettle. Keep the electrical base and connector dry. If water leaks from the body, lid or base, stop using the appliance rather than attempting a seal repair.
Current Anko 1.7-litre alternatives
Current Kmart search listings show two 1.7-litre Anko products at A$15 for a black model and A$26 for a black-and-silver model. Prices and stock can change, and these products are comparison points—not evidence that either is the same as LD-K3041A.

The table shows why model numbers and feature lists matter. A lower price may buy a newer safety system or may simply reflect a simpler product. Compare the exact listing, manual and warranty rather than choosing on capacity alone.
How to choose a replacement if the LD-K3041A is unavailable
Prioritise verified safety controls
Look for explicit statements of automatic shut-off and dry-boil or overheat protection. “Electric kettle” by itself does not tell you which protections are fitted. If the listing is vague, ask the retailer for the manual or technical specification before ordering.
Match capacity to your routine
A 1.7-litre kettle is suitable when you regularly boil several cups or fill a cooking pot. If you usually make one drink, a smaller kettle can reduce the amount of water heated per cycle. Whatever the size, use the minimum and maximum marks and avoid boiling more than you need.

A removable spout filter can help catch scale particles and can be easier to clean than a fixed screen. It is not a substitute for descaling, and the listing should state whether the filter is removable.
Evaluate the base, warranty and returns together
A 360-degree base can be convenient for left- or right-handed placement, while a longer warranty and straightforward returns reduce the risk of an early failure. Compare these practical protections with the price difference; a very cheap kettle is less attractive if a faulty unit is difficult to return.
Verdict: is the Anko LD-K3041A worth buying?
Buy the LD-K3041A only when the individual unit is in good condition, the seller offers meaningful return rights and you can verify safe shut-off during a supervised test. Its 1.7-litre capacity, stainless-steel construction, illuminated switch and 1850–2200 W rating are useful, conventional specifications. They do not overcome the model’s reported discontinuation or the mixed owner reports, including complaints involving shut-off and boiling dry.
