The price and stock are time-sensitive, so the $39 figure should be treated as a listing snapshot rather than a permanent retail price. The 1850–2200-watt rating is the electrical input range printed in the manual; it is not an independently measured boiling-time result.
How the five-colour LED ring works
A light ring around the base changes colour as the water heats. CHOICE records five temperature bands:

These colours are an at-a-glance heat cue, not a selectable temperature program or a precision thermometer. The ring does not let you set 70°C, hold a chosen temperature or verify an exact reading for coffee, tea or infant feeding. Water temperature can also continue changing after the kettle switches off, and the colour bands cover ranges rather than single-degree values.
The indicator is most useful when you want to know whether the water is still cool, warming or close to boiling without opening the lid. It is less useful when a recipe requires a specific temperature. For that work, use a separate thermometer or a kettle designed for adjustable temperature control.

Capacity and the 0.5-litre minimum fill
The jug holds 1.5 litres, enough for several cups or a small saucepan. The published minimum fill is 0.5 litre. That is an important operating limit: the kettle is not specified for boiling only a small splash of water for one cup.
A half-litre minimum can still cover two modest mugs, but it may leave more water than you need when making a single drink. Reboiling that surplus adds waiting time and uses more energy than heating only the required volume. Never fill below the marked minimum in an attempt to make a one-cup boil; the heating system and dry-boil protection are designed around the stated operating range.

At the other end, stay below the maximum marking. Water expands and can splash through the lid or spout if the jug is overfilled, particularly during a vigorous boil. The external level indicator is there to help you keep the amount between the two marks.
Using the kettle safely
First setup
- Place the power base on a stable, dry, level bench close enough to the outlet that the 73-centimetre cord is not pulled tight.
- Remove all packaging and check that the jug, lid, base and cord show no damage. Keep the electrical base and plug dry.
- Fill the jug with clean water between the 0.5-litre minimum and the maximum mark. Do not immerse the jug, base or cord.
- Set the jug on the base, close the lid fully and connect the plug to the outlet.
- Follow the manual’s initial-use instructions, including discarding the first boiled water if directed by the supplied documentation.
Boiling water
- Fill only the amount you need while respecting the minimum and maximum marks.
- Close the lid before switching the kettle on. A closed lid helps keep hot water contained and allows the normal boiling cycle to operate as intended.
- Start the kettle using its power control and watch the LED ring if you want a rough indication of the rising temperature.
- Keep the kettle on its base and do not move it while the water is heating. Steam and the glass vessel become hot.
- When the cycle has finished, switch off at the outlet if you are leaving the area, then lift the jug by its handle and pour carefully.
Kmart’s safety warning says: “Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children. Do not let the cord hang over edge of a table or counter. Follow usage instructions carefully.” Treat that as an operating requirement, not optional advice. Keep handles, the spout and escaping steam away from children, and do not leave a heating kettle where a child can pull the cord.
Safety features—and what they do not prove
The listed dry-boil protection is intended to protect the kettle if it is switched on with too little or no water. It is not a substitute for filling the jug correctly, and it does not make an unattended appliance risk-free. The product information also says it was tested to applicable Australian electrical safety standards.

The available product information does not provide an independent test of shut-off timing, temperature accuracy, noise or energy consumption. A kettle of this type is expected to end its normal heating cycle, but you should not rely on an appliance that appears to stay powered. If the kettle continues heating after the water has boiled, disconnect it from the outlet as soon as it is safe to do so and stop using it until the retailer or manufacturer has assessed it.

Cleaning and descaling the LD-K1046A
Mineral deposits can accumulate on the glass and concealed heating area, especially with hard water. The official manual’s descaling method uses vinegar and water at the 0.5-litre minimum mark.
- Unplug the kettle and allow it to cool completely.
- Prepare a vinegar-and-water mixture and fill to the 0.5-litre minimum mark, following the proportions and handling cautions in the manual.
- Leave the solution to work as instructed, then empty it carefully.
- Rinse the jug thoroughly with clean water.
- Boil fresh water and discard it before returning the kettle to normal use.
Do not immerse the jug, base or cord in water, and do not use abrasive cleaners that could scratch the transparent housing or glass. Wipe the outside with a damp cloth only after the appliance is unplugged and cool. If scale remains after the manual’s procedure, repeat the documented process rather than scraping the heating area with a sharp tool.
Reliability: what the owner evidence says
ProductReview.com.au verifies the LD-K1046A model number and shows a 3.0/5 average from four reviews. That is a very small, self-selected sample, so it cannot establish a failure rate or predict how long every kettle will last.

One owner reported that the kettle worked for about 18 months while being boiled roughly eight times per day. Other reports allege an automatic shut-off failure followed later by leaking. Those accounts are useful warning signs to check for, but they are individual consumer reports rather than controlled durability testing. They do not show how common either problem is, whether the units were used under the same conditions or whether a particular fault affected all production batches.
The practical conclusion is to retain the receipt, use the 12-month warranty period as your first remedy window and monitor the jug for changes. A new smell, visible crack, water at the base, switch that remains engaged or heating that does not stop normally is a reason to stop using the kettle, not to continue testing it.

Common problems and safe responses
The kettle leaks
- Switch off at the outlet and unplug it without touching spilled water near the plug or base.
- Let the jug cool before moving it, then place it on a dry, heat-resistant surface.
- Check visually for a crack in the glass, damage around the lid or spout, and water appearing underneath the jug. Do not dismantle the base.
- Do not use the kettle again if the leak returns, reaches the power base or is accompanied by a damaged cord or housing.
- Keep the receipt and contact the Kmart/Anko retailer about a warranty assessment. The published warranty is 12 months, subject to the retailer’s terms.
It does not appear to switch off
- Do not leave it unattended or try to force the switch repeatedly.
- Disconnect power at the outlet as soon as you can do so safely, keeping hands dry and away from any water.
- Allow the kettle to cool and record what happened, including the water level and whether the LED ring changed.
- Stop using it and request retailer or manufacturer service. Continuing to boil a suspected faulty kettle can worsen damage and create a burn or electrical risk.
The LED colour seems wrong
Remember that each colour represents a broad band: green is at or below 40°C, blue is 40–60°C, light blue is 60–80°C, purple is 80–90°C and red is at or above 90°C. The ring is not a precision instrument. If the colour is completely absent or does not change at all while the water heats, unplug the kettle after it cools and ask the retailer for advice rather than opening the base.
The kettle trips a socket or will not start
Stop using it if the plug, cord or base is wet or damaged. After the appliance is fully dry and cool, check that the jug is seated correctly and that the outlet is functioning with another safe appliance. If the Anko kettle still will not start, or repeatedly trips the circuit, leave it unplugged and seek a warranty assessment.
Is $39 good value?
At the cited $39 Kmart Australia price, the LD-K1046A is positioned as a low-cost, feature-led kettle rather than a premium temperature-control appliance. Value depends on which of those features matter to you. The visible water and approximate heat cue are meaningful advantages over an opaque jug. The 0.5-litre minimum fill is a real compromise for single-cup drinkers. The 12-month warranty is a standard short coverage period, and the four-review reliability sample is too small to justify paying extra or saving money solely on the assumption of exceptional longevity.
Because both price and stock can change, check the current Kmart or Target listing before buying. If the price rises materially, compare the warranty, minimum fill and independently measured performance of alternatives rather than assuming the same value proposition remains.
