Anker vs. Apple 20W iPhone Charger: Which Adapter Is the Better Buy?

For most iPhone owners, the Anker Nano Charger (20W) is the better value if its lower price is available and you want a compact, single-port USB-C adapter. Apple’s 20W USB-C Power Adapter is the simpler first-party choice when Apple branding and one-company support matter more than saving money. Both meet the 20W USB-C baseline Apple specifies for fast charging on supported iPhones.

The short answer

Choose the Anker Nano Charger (20W) when you want the smallest-cost route to a 20W USB-C charger, already have a suitable cable, and are comfortable buying from a third-party accessory maker. The cited Anker listing shows a price of $11.99, one USB-C port, 20W maximum output, and a compact body measuring 1.16 × 1.16 × 1.18 inches.

Choose Apple’s 20W USB-C Power Adapter when you prefer a first-party Apple accessory, want the most straightforward product choice, or would rather keep support and purchasing within Apple’s ecosystem. Apple lists it at $19 and says it can charge an iPhone 8 or later to about 50 percent in around 35 minutes. Apple sells the charging cable separately.

Neither choice has an established advantage in measured charging speed, heat, or durability based on the official specifications and claims available for this comparison. They share the same 20W maximum class, so your decision is mainly about price, size, brand preference, cable logistics, and whether one or two devices must be charged at once.

Why 20W matters for an iPhone

Apple’s fast-charging requirement is the key compatibility point. Apple Support says iPhone 12, iPhone SE (3rd generation), and later models require a power adapter with a minimum output of 20 watts for fast charging. Apple’s third-party guidance specifies a USB-C adapter rated for 9V/2.2A and at least 20W.

That makes a 20W USB-C adapter a sensible baseline for current iPhones. A charger can have a higher headline wattage, but this comparison is about adapters capped at 20W. The important checks are that the adapter has a USB-C output and that its stated output reaches the required 20W level.

Older supported models are also covered by Apple’s product-page claim: Apple says its adapter can fast-charge iPhone 8 or later, reaching up to 50 percent battery in around 35 minutes. That figure is Apple’s stated product claim, not a guarantee that every phone will show exactly 50 percent after exactly 35 minutes. Charging conditions, battery level, temperature, cable, and the iPhone model affect the result.

Apple 20W USB-C Power Adapter: what you get

First-party simplicity

Apple’s main advantage is that the adapter is an uncomplicated first-party purchase. You select Apple’s 20W USB-C Power Adapter, pair it with a USB-C charging cable appropriate for your iPhone, and use Apple’s own published compatibility guidance. For buyers who do not want to interpret third-party model names or output tables, that simplicity has real value.

Apple describes the adapter as offering “fast, efficient charging at home, in the office, or on the go.” The product is a single-port design, so it is intended for charging one device from the adapter at a time.

Price and cable requirement

Apple lists the adapter at $19. The cable is not included: Apple explicitly states, “Charging cable sold separately.” If you do not already own the right cable, the total cost of an Apple setup is therefore the adapter price plus the cable you choose.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Check the connector on your iPhone before ordering a cable. The adapter side is USB-C; the phone side must match your iPhone’s charging port. A cable that cannot connect to both ends will leave a correctly chosen adapter unusable until you replace it.

Who benefits most from Apple’s option?

  • People who want an Apple-branded accessory with a clear first-party product listing.
  • Households that prefer to keep accessory purchases and support with Apple.
  • Buyers who value a simple one-port design and do not need to charge two devices from one wall adapter.
  • Anyone willing to pay the cited $19 price rather than optimize for the lowest upfront cost.

Anker Nano Charger (20W): what you get

Specifications and physical size

The cited Anker Nano Charger (20W) has one USB-C port and a maximum output of 20W. Its listed output modes include 5V/3A and 9V/2.22A. The dimensions are 1.16 × 1.16 × 1.18 inches, giving it a compact footprint for a single-port charger.

Anker’s product feature heading calls the model “Small Size, Big Power.” The practical implication is straightforward: it provides the same 20W maximum class as Apple’s adapter while taking up little space in a bag or on a crowded outlet. The dimensions are listed specifications, not a laboratory measurement of how much room the adapter leaves around neighboring plugs.

Price and compatibility

The cited Anker listing shows a price of $11.99 and compatibility with many iPhone generations. That is $7.01 below Apple’s listed $19 price before tax, shipping, cable costs, or retailer-specific promotions. Prices and stock can change, so treat those figures as the listed prices associated with the cited product pages rather than permanent prices.

As with Apple’s adapter, the phone still needs a suitable cable. Anker listings can differ by model and package, so verify whether a cable is included in the exact listing you intend to buy. Do not assume that every product carrying a similar “20W” name has the same box contents.

Who benefits most from Anker’s option?

  • Buyers who want a lower cited price for a 20W USB-C adapter.
  • Travelers who prioritize a compact single-port body.
  • iPhone owners comfortable using a reputable third-party accessory instead of a first-party Apple adapter.
  • Anyone who already has a compatible cable and wants to avoid paying more for the adapter itself.

The table shows why neither adapter wins every category. Apple has the clearer first-party purchase path. Anker supplies a lower listed price and published compact dimensions. Both are single-port 20W USB-C options, so neither is designed as a two-device charging hub.

Will a 20W Anker charger charge an iPhone as fast as Apple’s?

On paper, both adapters meet the same 20W class, and Apple’s third-party guidance calls for USB-C, 9V/2.2A, and at least 20W for fast charging on the relevant iPhone generations. That means a 20W Anker adapter is intended to provide the power level Apple identifies for fast charging when used with a suitable cable and compatible iPhone.

That does not establish an exact second-by-second tie. The official material used for this comparison provides specifications and Apple’s product-page claim, not a controlled test of the two adapters under identical conditions. It would therefore be inaccurate to promise that one reaches a particular battery percentage at exactly the same time as the other.

Charging also changes as the battery fills. A phone may accept more power at a low battery level and reduce the rate later to manage battery conditions. The adapter’s rating is its available maximum, not a promise that the iPhone will draw 20W continuously from zero to 100 percent.

One port or two: the important Anker alternative

Anker also lists a two-port 20W model with one USB-C port and one USB-A port. It can be useful if you regularly need to connect two cables, but there is a crucial trade-off: Anker specifies 15W maximum combined output when both ports are active.

That is materially different from the single-port Nano Charger’s 20W maximum. If two devices are connected, the adapter’s total output is shared and capped at 15W. The two-port model is therefore about convenience, not about delivering 20W to each device simultaneously.

Choose the two-port design when

  • You often charge an iPhone and another USB device from the same wall outlet.
  • Reducing the number of wall adapters matters more than maintaining the single-port 20W maximum.
  • You understand that both connected devices share a 15W combined ceiling.

Stay with a single-port adapter when

  • Your priority is the simplest setup for one iPhone.
  • You want the clearest path to the adapter’s full 20W maximum for one connected device.
  • You rarely charge a second USB device at the same time.

Which adapter should you buy for your situation?

Buy Apple if first-party support is your priority

Apple is the better fit when your decision starts with brand preference rather than price. Its $19 adapter is easy to identify, follows Apple’s own accessory guidance, and comes from the same company that makes the phone. This is especially appealing if you are buying a replacement for a family member who wants the least complicated choice.

Buy the Anker Nano if value and compactness matter most

The Anker Nano is the stronger value pick at the cited prices. At $11.99, it costs $7.01 less than Apple’s listed $19 adapter, while retaining a 20W maximum and a single USB-C port. Its 1.16 × 1.16 × 1.18-inch dimensions are also explicitly published, which helps when you are selecting a small travel charger.

Confirm the package contents before checkout. If the specific Anker listing excludes a cable, the apparent savings apply only to the adapter and you will still need a suitable cable.

Choose the two-port Anker model for shared charging

If you routinely charge two devices from one outlet, a two-port Anker 20W model may be more convenient than either single-port option. Accept the 15W combined maximum as part of that choice. It is not the right selection if your main goal is to preserve a full 20W ceiling while charging one phone and another device simultaneously.

Compatibility checklist before ordering

  1. Identify your iPhone model. Apple’s 20W minimum guidance specifically covers iPhone 12, iPhone SE (3rd generation), and later models for fast charging. Apple’s product claim covers iPhone 8 or later.
  2. Confirm the adapter output. Look for USB-C and a rating of at least 20W. For third-party fast charging, Apple’s guidance specifies 9V/2.2A and 20W minimum.
  3. Match the cable to both ends. The adapter uses USB-C. The phone-side connector must match your iPhone, and the cable must be rated for the charging setup.
  4. Check the package contents. Apple’s cable is sold separately. Anker’s included accessories vary by model and listing.
  5. Decide whether one port is enough. A single-port adapter keeps the output focused on one device; a two-port option adds convenience but limits both ports to 15W combined when active.
  6. Review the seller’s current price and return terms. The cited prices are listing prices, not a permanent price guarantee, and return policies depend on where you buy.

Common buying mistakes and how to avoid them

Assuming “20W” includes a cable

Wattage describes the adapter’s power capability, not the contents of the box. Apple explicitly excludes the cable. Anker’s listings vary, so inspect the exact package description rather than relying on a product title.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Confusing a two-port 20W rating with 20W per port

Anker’s two-port model is limited to 15W combined when both ports are in use. The 20W figure should not be interpreted as 20W delivered independently to USB-C and USB-A at the same time.

Apply even pressure for a few seconds to allow the suction cup to adhere properly. To maintain the grip and prevent accidental falls, it's a good practice to periodically reapply pressure to the suction cup.

Expecting the maximum wattage continuously

A 20W label is a maximum output rating. The iPhone controls how much power it accepts, and charging behavior changes as the battery fills. Apple’s “about 50 percent in around 35 minutes” statement is a product-page estimate for supported devices, not a continuous 20W guarantee.

Choosing by brand alone

Apple’s first-party status may be worth the price difference to you, but it does not remove the need to check the cable and port. Conversely, a lower-cost Anker adapter still needs to match the published output and your actual charging routine.

Ignoring price changes

The comparison uses Apple’s listed $19 price and Anker’s cited $11.99 listing. Retail prices, promotions, shipping charges, and availability can change. Recheck the final checkout total, especially if you also need a cable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to set up either adapter

  1. Plug the adapter into a compatible wall outlet.
  2. Connect the USB-C end of the charging cable to the adapter.
  3. Connect the other end to the iPhone.
  4. Check that the iPhone shows the charging indicator.
  5. If using a two-port adapter, connect the second device only when you accept the 15W combined-output limit.

If the iPhone does not charge, first reseat both cable connectors and try another known-compatible cable. Then check whether the adapter is firmly connected to the outlet and whether the cable is damaged. If a two-port model works with one device but behaves differently when both ports are occupied, the shared-output limit is the first specification to consider.

Price, warranty and returns: what to verify

The cited material establishes the product prices, core output ratings, dimensions for the Anker Nano, and Apple’s cable policy. It does not establish one universal warranty or return term that applies to every retailer or Anker listing. Check the seller’s current warranty wording, return window, regional terms, and whether the item is sold directly or through a marketplace.

That check matters most when the price difference is small. A lower sticker price can be offset by shipping, an absent cable, or a return policy that is less convenient for you. Compare the complete purchase, not only the adapter line item.

Final buying decision

For a typical one-phone setup, buy the Anker Nano Charger (20W) if the cited lower price remains available, you want a compact body, and you are comfortable verifying the exact package contents. It delivers a 20W maximum through one USB-C port and aligns with Apple’s stated 20W fast-charging baseline.

Buy Apple’s 20W USB-C Power Adapter if first-party Apple branding, a straightforward product choice, and Apple’s own accessory support are more important than saving $7.01 at the cited prices. It is also a one-port 20W option, and its cable is sold separately.

If you need two devices connected at once, consider Anker’s two-port 20W model only with the understanding that Anker limits output to 15W combined when both ports are active. For everyone else, the choice is simple: Apple for first-party reassurance, Anker Nano for value and compactness.
