Weight and shell: why 39 g versus 47 g matters
At 47 g in normal wireless use, the .97 sits firmly in the sub-50 g category. The 39 g wired figure is achieved by removing the battery pack, not by using a second lighter battery. Do not select it solely from the 47 g number: the shell’s length, rear-cover profile, and width determine whether your fingers stay relaxed during long sessions.

Claw is the safest match for the .97’s design goal. The compact rear section lets your palm hover or touch lightly while your fingers arch over the TTC optical main buttons. The reduced length can make rapid micro-adjustments easier for small and medium hands because less shell extends behind the knuckles.

The PAW3950 tracks at up to 30,000 DPI. Almost no player needs that maximum sensitivity, but a high ceiling gives the sensor headroom and lets you set very low counts-per-inch values without running out of range. In practice, your game settings, pad, and grip matter more than selecting 30,000 DPI.
Polling is adjustable from 125 Hz to 8,000 Hz according to PC Gamer, and 8K is available in both wired and 2.4 GHz modes. At 8,000 Hz the mouse reports movement every 0.125 milliseconds in ideal conditions, reducing the interval between reports compared with 1,000 Hz. The visual difference is most apparent on high-refresh monitors and during rapid camera movement; it is not a replacement for a stable frame rate or low system latency.
Choosing a practical polling rate
- 1,000 Hz: The most conservative setting for battery life. AngryMiao claims up to 165 hours at this rate.
- 2,000–4,000 Hz: A middle ground if your system supports higher polling but you do not need the shortest report interval.
- 8,000 Hz: The headline mode for competitive play, available wirelessly or by cable, with a claimed runtime of up to 30 hours.
Higher polling increases the amount of data your computer processes and draws more power. If a game stutters after enabling 8K, test a lower rate before blaming the sensor: older CPUs, busy USB controllers, or a title with poor high-polling support can become the limiting factor. The mouse’s software lets you change polling, so treat 8K as an option rather than a permanent requirement.

Those are manufacturer figures, so actual time depends on polling, lighting, wireless conditions, firmware, and how the mouse is used. The difference is large enough to affect your routine. At the claimed 8K figure, a player who uses the mouse eight hours a day could exhaust a pack in roughly four gaming days; at the claimed 1K figure, the same schedule would last substantially longer. A spare battery is therefore most valuable to 8K users, while 1K users may rarely need to swap.
Recommended battery routine
- Choose 1K or 8K in the AM Master settings based on whether endurance or minimum report interval matters more.
- Connect the receiver/dock to power and charge a second battery before a long session.
- When the installed pack is low, switch the mouse off, remove the magnetic battery, and insert the charged pack firmly.
- Place the depleted pack in the dock so it is ready for the next swap.
- If you do not need wireless movement, remove the pack and use USB-C mode at the 39 g wired weight.
The battery is a consumable component, so its replaceability should extend the useful life of the mouse compared with a sealed design. AngryMiao also lists an AM Infinity .97 replacement battery and a rubber-feet grip-tape set; availability and pricing can change, so verify them before ordering.
Connectivity and setup
The .97 supports three connection types. USB-C is the simplest way to configure and play, Bluetooth is convenient for compatible laptops and tablets, and 2.4 GHz is the mode intended for low-latency wireless gaming. The 8K claim applies to wired and 2.4 GHz connections, not Bluetooth.
First-time setup

- Test movement in a desktop window before launching a game. Confirm that the selected rate is stable and that the cursor does not skip when the receiver is moved farther away.
- Keep the USB cable available. If the battery is empty or wireless interference appears, wired mode provides an immediate fallback.
The software is functional rather than elaborate. TechRadar specifically criticizes the companion software as basic, and the absence of a dedicated DPI button means you must assign DPI switching to one of the available buttons or change it in software. That is manageable for a fixed sensitivity, but inconvenient if you frequently switch profiles during play.

At either price, the .97 is a premium purchase. Battery lasts far less than expected
Check polling first. The manufacturer’s maximum is up to 30 hours at 8K versus up to 165 hours at 1K, so a short runtime at the highest rate is expected. Disable unnecessary RGB, confirm that the battery is fully seated, and test at 1K to separate normal power use from a charging or battery fault.
Wireless cursor skips or feels delayed
Move the receiver closer to the mouse and away from metal surfaces or crowded USB hubs. Confirm that you are using 2.4 GHz rather than Bluetooth for gaming, then test a lower polling rate. If wired mode is stable but wireless is not, the issue is likely radio placement, interference, or pairing rather than the sensor.
The mouse feels too small
Measure your hand and compare it with the 123.2 mm overall length and 115 mm body length without the rear cover.
