Choose Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 if you want a named camera-and-audio smart-glasses product with official product information now; consider Android XR if you can wait for Google’s announced eyewear and want Gemini assistance or an in-lens display. They are not yet a like-for-like comparison: Google’s Android XR is a platform covering several kinds of devices, while Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is a specific product. Google’s audio glasses were announced for fall 2026, but final model details vary by partner and should be checked before buying.
What is the difference between Android XR and Ray-Ban Meta?
Android XR is Google’s platform for extended-reality devices, including headsets and glasses; it is not the name of a single pair of glasses. Google has described glasses that connect with a phone and use Gemini, with cameras, microphones and speakers in its demonstrations. In 2026, Google separated its intelligent-eyewear plans into audio glasses and display glasses: one offers spoken help, while the other can show information in the wearer’s line of sight. Google’s Android XR overview explains the broader platform, and its May 2026 announcement describes the eyewear categories.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is a marketed pair of camera-and-audio glasses. Meta’s September 2025 announcement highlighted 3K video capture and improved battery life; its official US product page sets out phone and app requirements. Those product claims do not establish an equivalent Android XR model or a direct battery comparison. Meta’s Gen 2 announcement and the Ray-Ban US product page are the relevant product references.
Which option fits your main use?

| Information visible in your line of sight | Android XR display glasses | Google describes this as a separate display-glasses category, but final consumer model specifications, price and retail timing are not established in the cited announcement. |
| A more immersive spatial-computing experience | XREAL AURA | Google describes it as wired XR glasses powered by Android XR, a different form factor from screen-free everyday eyewear. |
What is announced about Google’s Android XR glasses?
Audio glasses
Google’s May 19, 2026 announcement named Gentle Monster, Warby Parker and Samsung as partners for its first audio glasses, which it said were expected in fall 2026. Google said the glasses would be compatible with Android and iOS and provide spoken help in the wearer’s ear. The announcement does not establish final prices or complete specifications for each partner model. Because the announced season is not proof of current retail availability, check the relevant maker’s official product information before treating a model as available to buy.

Display glasses
Google also described display glasses that show information when needed. The cited announcement does not establish final consumer specifications, pricing or a retail date for this category. Do not assume that a display is included in the audio glasses, or that every Android XR partner model has the same features.
XREAL AURA is a separate kind of option
Google announced reservations for XREAL AURA in June 2026 and described it as wired XR glasses powered by Android XR, expected in fall 2026. Google’s earlier Project Aura overview described optical see-through and a 70-degree field of view, with multiple windows as an intended use. Those details describe the earlier overview and should not be treated as confirmed final AURA retail specifications. Check whether reservations have become sales and consult current model specifications. Google’s AWE 2026 announcement and The Android Show’s device overview cover the announcements.

What should you check before buying?
Phone and app compatibility
Ray-Ban’s US product page says the glasses connect to a smartphone and require the Meta AI app; it lists Android 10 or later and iOS 14.4 or later as minimum operating systems. These are requirements shown on the US page, not a guarantee that every feature is available in every country or with every phone. Google announced Android and iOS compatibility for its first audio glasses, but check the final requirements for the exact model and region you intend to use.

Features and model-specific details
- For Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, verify the exact frame and lens model, current features, price and stock on the seller’s page.
- For Android XR, check the individual partner’s listing for its display, camera, audio, phone requirements and supported Gemini features. The platform announcement is not a complete spec sheet for each pair.
- For XREAL AURA, confirm its final specifications and whether it is being sold or remains available only through a reservation path.
Availability where you live
Launch timing and regional support can change. Google’s fall 2026 timing for audio glasses and XREAL AURA was an announced expectation, not by itself confirmation of retail availability on October 3, 2026. Confirm current availability and region-specific features directly with Google, the named eyewear partner or the retailer before making a purchase.

Should you buy Ray-Ban Meta now or wait for Android XR?
If you want camera-and-audio glasses and are ready to buy, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is the more concrete choice because it has a named product and official product information. If Gemini, spoken assistance or an in-lens display is the deciding feature, wait until the specific Android XR model you want has a confirmed listing and published specifications. If your goal is a wired, more immersive spatial canvas rather than everyday screen-free eyewear, assess XREAL AURA on its own terms instead of treating it as a direct Ray-Ban alternative.
