Can Android join FaceTime?
Android users can participate in FaceTime through a web browser, but they do not join as fully signed-in FaceTime users. The Apple-device participant creates a browser invitation, and the Android participant joins as a guest. This is the only supported route: an Android user cannot start a FaceTime call or create a FaceTime invitation link.

The call is hosted by FaceTime on Apple’s side. Your Android device supplies the browser, camera, microphone, speakers, and internet connection. You do not download a FaceTime app, create an Apple Account, or enter an Apple ID to participate.

There is no separate Android FaceTime application to install. Be cautious of websites or downloads claiming to be an official Android FaceTime app; the browser invitation is the method documented by Apple for Android guests.

How to join FaceTime from Android
- Get the invitation link. Ask the person using an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac to create a FaceTime link and send it to you by message, email, or another channel.
- Open the link in Chrome or Edge. Use the latest version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on your Android device. If the link opens inside another app’s built-in browser, use that browser’s option to open it in Chrome or Edge instead.
- Enter your name. FaceTime’s web page asks for a name. Type the name you want other participants to see, then select Continue.
- Allow microphone access. When the browser displays a permission prompt, choose the option that permits microphone use. Without it, other people will not hear you.
- Allow camera access. Approve camera access when prompted. You can keep the camera off later, but granting permission allows you to choose whether to appear on video.
- Select Join. Press Join to send your request to the host. You have not entered the call yet; the host must admit you.
- Wait for admission. Leave the FaceTime tab open while the host reviews the request. If the host does not approve it, you remain outside the conversation.
- Leave when finished. Select Leave in the FaceTime controls when you are done.
The labels can vary slightly with browser or Android-version changes, but the sequence is the same: invitation, name, permissions, join request, host approval.
What the Android browser version can do
Once admitted, Android guests get the core controls needed for an audio and video conversation. Apple documents these web controls:
- Mute or unmute your microphone.
- Turn your camera on or off.
- Switch to full-screen viewing.
- Change between the front and rear cameras when the device and browser make that option available.
- Use a grid layout for viewing group-call participants.
- Share the invitation link onward, where the web interface offers that control.
These controls affect your participation; they do not give an Android guest the same account-level role as an authenticated Apple participant. The host and other authenticated participants retain control over admitting people and managing the call.
Features Android guests cannot use
SharePlay
SharePlay is not available in FaceTime on the web. An Android participant therefore cannot use FaceTime’s web interface for the Apple-device SharePlay experience.

Screen sharing
Screen sharing is also unavailable in the web version. If you tap through the controls looking for a screen-share button and cannot find one, that is a platform limitation rather than a missing permission. The Android browser can carry the call’s basic audio and video, but it cannot add web-based screen sharing.
Apple-account features
You join as a named guest instead of signing in. That means you should not expect Apple Account identity, FaceTime contact history, or account-based calling options on Android. The invitation link and the host’s approval are the mechanisms that identify your session.
What the Apple host must do
The person inviting you needs an Apple device that can create FaceTime links. Apple supports link creation on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 15 or later, or on a Mac running macOS Monterey or later.
The host creates a FaceTime link, sends it to you, opens the call, and approves your request when it appears. If several Android or other browser guests are joining, each person follows the same guest process and waits for admission separately.

Why you may be stuck waiting
Seeing a waiting screen after tapping Join is normally expected. Browser guests request access; they are not admitted automatically. Ask the host to look at the FaceTime call and approve your name.
Apple’s privacy documentation also says an authenticated participant can remove a web user during the first 30 seconds after that user joins. If you disappear immediately after being admitted, the host or another authenticated participant may have removed you.
Troubleshooting checklist
The link will not open
- Copy the complete invitation and paste it into the latest Chrome or Edge rather than opening it in an unsupported browser.
- Check that your Android device is online through Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Ask the host to send the link again if the original message was truncated or wrapped across multiple lines.
The page asks for a camera or microphone but the call has no audio or video
- Choose the browser option that allows camera and microphone access when prompted.
- If you previously blocked permission, open the browser’s site-permission controls for the FaceTime page and allow both devices, then reload the page.
- Close another app that may already be using the camera or microphone and try again.
The host cannot see your request
- Confirm that you completed the name field and selected Join; merely opening the invitation does not send an access request.
- Tell the host the exact name you entered so it is easy to identify in the waiting list.
- Keep the browser tab open until the host admits you.
The video is choppy or the call drops
Move to a stronger Wi-Fi signal or a location with better mobile coverage. Pause large downloads and streaming on the same connection, then rejoin the invitation if necessary. FaceTime’s browser call depends on the quality of the connection available to the Android device.
You are looking for screen sharing
Do not spend time changing permissions to unlock it. Screen sharing and SharePlay are not offered in FaceTime on the web, so an Android guest cannot enable either feature from the browser.

Privacy and security for Android participants
Apple states that FaceTime calls are end-to-end encrypted and that it does not store the content of FaceTime calls. End-to-end encryption protects the call content while it travels between participants, but it does not remove the need to treat invitation links carefully.
Apple also says it may retain limited operational information about FaceTime use for up to 30 days. Examples include information about who was invited and device network configurations. This is separate from storing the audio or video content of the call.
Because a browser guest supplies a name and requests access, use a name that you are comfortable showing to everyone in the call. Do not forward an invitation to people who should not receive it. The host’s admission step is an important access control, but anyone who obtains the link can attempt to request entry.

Mainland-China availability limits
Apple says FaceTime links are not supported in mainland China. Apple also says creating a FaceTime link is not supported on iPhone models purchased in mainland China. These are regional and device-purchase restrictions, so a link that works elsewhere may not be available to a host or guest affected by them.

If you are in mainland China, or the host is using an iPhone purchased there, check whether the restriction applies before scheduling the call. The browser steps cannot bypass a regional FaceTime-link limitation.
Do you need an Apple ID, an app, or a subscription?
- Apple ID or Apple Account: No account is required for the Android guest.
- FaceTime app: No Android installation is required. You join through Chrome or Edge.
- Paid subscription: No subscription is identified as a requirement for joining a FaceTime invitation.
- Special hardware: You need only a compatible Android device with a camera, microphone, speakers, and an internet connection.
The Apple participant still needs a supported Apple device to create the link. That host-side requirement is why Android can join FaceTime but cannot independently start a FaceTime call.

Bottom line for Android users
Android can join FaceTime, but only as a browser guest through a link created by an Apple-device user. The practical setup is simple: current Chrome or Edge, a dependable connection, camera and microphone permission, a name, and host approval. You get basic audio/video participation and controls, while SharePlay and screen sharing remain unavailable on the web version.
