Google’s October 2026 Pixel update includes three targeted fixes: a virtual keyboard that sometimes failed to appear in search fields, distorted ringtone audio during some VoIP calls, and photos or videos saved in the wrong orientation. The fixes apply to different Pixel models, so the update will not address every issue on every device. Google says supported devices will receive the 2026-10-05 Pixel security patch level; availability can vary by model and carrier.
What the October Pixel update fixes
The October 6, 2026 rollout report lists these functional changes. Its device scope is specific: a fix applies only to the models shown for that issue, not to every Pixel receiving the update.

| Issue | Reported fix | Models covered in the rollout report |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard in search fields | Fix for an issue that occasionally prevented the virtual keyboard from appearing when interacting with search input fields. | Pixel 8 and the listed newer models, through the Pixel 11 family. |
| VoIP-call ringtone audio | Fix for an issue that occasionally caused ringtone noise or distortion during certain VoIP calls. | Listed Pixel 8 through Pixel 10a models. The report’s device key does not include Pixel 11 for this fix. |
| Photo and video orientation | Fix for an issue that occasionally caused captured photos or recorded videos to save in the incorrect orientation. | Pixel 11 family. |
These descriptions concern occasional, specific failures. They do not indicate that all users experienced the symptoms or that the update changes general keyboard, calling, or camera behavior. The fix descriptions and device mapping are from 9to5Google’s October 6 rollout report.
Which Pixel models are on the reported rollout list?
9to5Google reported the October update for the following devices:

This is a reported rollout list, not confirmation that the over-the-air update has reached every listed device. Google’s Pixel bulletin says all supported Google devices will receive the October 5, 2026 patch level. Check the update screen on your own phone for availability rather than assuming the rollout is immediate.
How to check for the update and confirm installation
- Open Settings on your Pixel.
- Tap System, then Software updates, and check for a system update. If an update is offered, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it.
- After installation, return to the software update screen and check the displayed Android security update date and build number. The expected Pixel security patch level is 2026-10-05; the exact build depends on the model and, in some cases, carrier.
If no update appears, the rollout may not yet be available for your device or carrier. Check again later. Do not install a build intended for a different model or carrier.

- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
October patch dates and build numbers
The Pixel security patch level and Android bulletin patch level refer to different scopes. Google’s October 2026 Pixel Update Bulletin says supported Google devices will receive patch level 2026-10-05, covering issues in the Pixel bulletin and the October Android Security Bulletin. The separate Android Security Bulletin, published October 5, 2026, says level 2026-10-01 or later addresses the Android issues listed there. Those dates should not be treated as interchangeable.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Android security fixes are separate from the three Pixel behavior fixes
The three items above are functional fixes with model-specific applicability. The Android Security Bulletin covers a broader set of Android vulnerabilities; it says the most severe listed issue is a critical System vulnerability that could allow local privilege escalation without additional execution privileges or user interaction. That description concerns the bulletin’s security findings, not one of the three functional fixes.
