Its README identifies an RTX 5060 as the card physically validated so far; a longer list of GPU families is not proof that every listed card works. This is experimental software, not a driver from Apple or NVIDIA.
What the NullMoth driver does
NullMoth describes a graphics stack that lets macOS applications access NVIDIA GPUs through a Metal driver plugin. Its documented path connects Metal to an Apple AIR-to-SPIR-V translator and Mesa’s NVK Vulkan backend, alongside kernel extensions that use NVIDIA’s open GPU kernel modules under macOS. The components are intended to work together as a community implementation; they are not an official Apple or NVIDIA macOS driver. Project README and an independent report describe the project and its experimental status.

Which GPUs and macOS versions are in scope?
The project targets Intel Macs and OpenCore systems. Its README says the primary documented target is macOS 15 Sequoia and lists Turing-and-newer families, including GTX 16, RTX 20, RTX 30, RTX 40 and RTX 50 cards, TITAN RTX, and supported Quadro and RTX workstation cards. But a device appearing in that list does not mean it has been qualified in everyday use.
The README identifies the RTX 5060 as the card physically validated by the project, with tests run under macOS 15.7.x and 15.8.1. The independent report describes a desktop rendered through that card and Metal applications detecting it. Those observations establish a limited demonstration—not reliable compatibility across other RTX models, applications, or system configurations.

- AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
- OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis
The README also mentions a separate package component for macOS 26 Tahoe, but says full hardware and application qualification is pending. The Sequoia RTX 5060 demonstration should not be taken as proof of Tahoe support.
What the demonstration does—and does not—show
Seeing a desktop rendered or a GPU detected by an application is an early sign of function, not a complete driver qualification. The independent report says stability, performance, power management, sleep, display outputs, and installation safety need further validation. Results may vary with the GPU, motherboard, firmware, OpenCore configuration, and macOS installation.

Intel Mac Pro towers with PCIe expansion are described as a plausible use case, but that does not make installation plug and play. Hackintosh PCs also vary widely, and no broad guarantee follows from the RTX 5060 demonstration.
Another experiment is not expanded NullMoth support
A separate project, OpenNVDA, documents an RTX 4080 running on macOS Tahoe 26.7 in an October 2 checkpoint. Its author explicitly describes that state as a checkpoint, not a release. The project reports selected low-level and Metal tests, while also listing unresolved hardware-cursor output, application compatibility, sleep and wake, and long-session qualification.

OpenNVDA is a distinct experiment. Its RTX 4080 and Tahoe checkpoint does not extend NullMoth’s validated hardware list or establish that the two projects have comparable results. OpenNVDA project documentation
Installation involves real boot and security risks
NullMoth’s README describes prebuilt installation, an optional 1401 Mac app, package-hash verification, component installation, rebooting, and approval of system extensions in macOS settings. It also documents OpenCore and BIOS configuration, including Above 4G Decoding enabled and CSM disabled, and says to retain the boot medium used to start the system while the app operates. These are project-specific instructions, not a universal recipe; consult the current project documentation for the exact procedure and recovery steps.

- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
- 3.125-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
Installing unofficial kernel and graphics components can leave a system unable to boot or without usable video, and may require changes that weaken security settings. Use a spare or test configuration, keep a working recovery path, and do not treat this as a safe upgrade for a machine you depend on. The project’s own README cautions: “This driver is new and may not work on every PC.”

Should you try it?
If you have a compatible Intel/OpenCore test system and are comfortable recovering macOS and OpenCore after a failed boot, NullMoth is an experimental project worth following. If you need dependable graphics, broad application compatibility, predictable sleep and wake, or a low-risk installation, the current evidence is not enough to recommend replacing a working setup. Even an RTX 5060—the project’s physically validated card—is not a guarantee of a stable daily-use system.
