There is no universal winner between AMD and Salesforce for 2026. AMD offers faster recent growth and substantial exposure to AI infrastructure, but its chip business is cyclical and sensitive to product timing, export controls, manufacturing capacity and supply-chain execution. Salesforce is growing more slowly, yet it sells predominantly recurring enterprise software, has $72 billion in total remaining performance obligation and is turning Agentforce and Data 360 into rapidly growing annual recurring revenue.
That makes AMD the more aggressive growth choice and Salesforce the more recurring-revenue choice. A defensible buy decision still requires current share prices, valuation multiples and updated balance-sheet and cash-flow figures; those data points are not established in the available evidence.

The key facts investors are comparing
AMD and Salesforce are often grouped together as artificial-intelligence stocks, but they monetize different layers of the technology stack. AMD supplies processors and accelerators used by data centers, personal computers and gaming systems. Salesforce sells cloud software that manages customer relationships and business workflows, with Agentforce adding autonomous AI-agent capabilities.
The companies also report on different fiscal calendars. AMD’s figures below come from its FY2025 reporting, while Salesforce’s results are labeled FY2026. Comparing the year-over-year rates is useful, but the fiscal labels should not be treated as identical periods.

| Measure | AMD | Salesforce |
|---|---|---|
| Most recently reported fiscal-year revenue | $34.6 billion in FY2025 | $41.5 billion in FY2026 |
| Year-over-year revenue growth | 34% | 10% |
| Largest highlighted growth engine | Data Center revenue of $16.6 billion, up 32%; Client and Gaming revenue of $14.6 billion, up 51% | Agentforce and Data 360 ARR above $2.9 billion, up more than 200%; Agentforce ARR of $800 million, up 169% |
| Forward outlook supplied | Approximately $9.8 billion of Q1 2026 revenue, plus or minus $300 million, including about $100 million of MI308 China sales | FY2027 subscription-and-support revenue growth raised to slightly above 12% in an August 2026 update |
| Contracted or recurring visibility disclosed | Not stated in the supplied company figures | $72 billion of total remaining performance obligation, up 14% |
On reported growth alone, AMD is ahead. On contracted revenue visibility, Salesforce provides the clearer disclosed measure. Neither statistic by itself determines which stock will produce the better return, because the purchase price and the risks attached to each dollar of growth matter.
How AMD and Salesforce actually make money
AMD: hardware performance tied to demand cycles
AMD’s revenue comes from products whose sales depend on customers refreshing servers, computers and game systems. The FY2025 mix shows why investors focus on both data-center demand and the Client and Gaming businesses. Data Center generated $16.6 billion, up 32%, while Client and Gaming generated $14.6 billion, up 51%. Those are powerful increases, but chip purchases can be delayed, accelerated or reduced when customers adjust inventories and capital spending.
AMD also relies on third-party manufacturing and a global supply chain. That arrangement can provide access to advanced production capacity without owning every fabrication facility, but it introduces dependence on suppliers, packaging, capacity allocation and logistics. Product launches must arrive on time and perform competitively against alternatives. A delayed architecture or constrained supply can move revenue between quarters or weaken a product cycle.
Salesforce: subscription software with a contractual base
Salesforce’s core economics are built around subscription and support services sold to businesses. Its FY2026 revenue reached $41.5 billion, up 10%. Total remaining performance obligation reached $72 billion, up 14%. RPO represents contracted revenue that has not yet been recognized, so it gives investors a view of booked business rather than a promise based only on future sales.
Subscription businesses still face renewal, expansion and implementation challenges, but their revenue recognition is generally less exposed to a single hardware replacement cycle. Salesforce’s disclosed RPO and subscription-and-support guidance therefore provide a different kind of visibility from AMD’s product shipments. RPO is not the same as cash received immediately, and it should not be read as a guarantee that every future period will grow at 14%.
Which company has the stronger AI opportunity?
AMD’s AI opportunity is infrastructure-led
AMD benefits when cloud providers and other data-center operators need more compute for training and serving AI models. Its Data Center revenue of $16.6 billion and 32% growth show that the segment is already material, not merely an experimental project. The broader 34% FY2025 revenue increase also indicates that AMD entered 2026 with considerable momentum.

The opportunity is accompanied by unusually visible execution requirements. AI accelerators must compete on performance, software support, availability and total cost of ownership. AMD’s February 2026 outlook called for approximately $9.8 billion of Q1 2026 revenue, with a range of plus or minus $300 million, and included approximately $100 million of MI308 China sales. That China contribution is specifically identified in the outlook; it should not be generalized to all AMD AI revenue.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Export controls and other government actions can change which products may be sold into particular markets. AMD also lists competition, semiconductor cyclicality, third-party manufacturing, supply-chain dependence, product-timing risk, cybersecurity, customer concentration and stock-price volatility among its material risks. The result is a potentially large AI-infrastructure market with a high sensitivity to execution and policy.
Salesforce’s AI opportunity is software monetization
Salesforce approaches AI from the application layer. Its FY26 annual report describes Agentforce as a platform layer that lets companies build and deploy AI agents able to respond to inputs, make decisions and take action autonomously across business functions. That positioning matters because the product can be sold as an extension of existing customer workflows rather than as a separate hardware system.
Agentforce and Data 360 ARR exceeded $2.9 billion, up more than 200% year over year. Agentforce ARR alone reached $800 million, up 169%. ARR is a run-rate measure, not the same as recognized fiscal-year revenue, but the growth rates show that customers are adopting the new offerings quickly enough to become a material commercial theme.
The central question is conversion: can early AI demand expand across Salesforce’s installed base and remain durable as customers move from pilots to production use? Salesforce’s August 2026 update raised FY2027 subscription-and-support revenue growth guidance to slightly above 12%. That guidance does not isolate Agentforce’s contribution, so investors must track both total subscription growth and the separate AI ARR disclosures.
| AI dimension | AMD | Salesforce |
|---|---|---|
| What is sold | Processors and accelerators used in computing infrastructure | Cloud software, data services and an agent platform for business workflows |
| Evidence of current momentum | Data Center revenue of $16.6 billion, up 32%; Q1 2026 outlook includes approximately $100 million of MI308 China sales | Agentforce and Data 360 ARR above $2.9 billion, up more than 200%; Agentforce ARR $800 million, up 169% |

Growth, guidance and revenue durability
AMD’s 34% FY2025 revenue growth is materially higher than Salesforce’s 10% FY2026 growth. The difference is large enough to affect how investors frame the stocks: AMD is being evaluated as a faster-growing semiconductor company, while Salesforce is being evaluated as a mature software platform attempting to reaccelerate through AI.

Forward guidance narrows that gap only partly. AMD’s Q1 2026 outlook is a quarterly revenue target with a stated uncertainty range. Salesforce’s slightly above 12% FY2027 subscription-and-support growth outlook is a full-year rate for a recurring segment. They measure different things, so neither should be ranked as a direct forecast of total-year shareholder returns.
Revenue quality is the other half of the comparison. AMD can grow quickly when customers increase infrastructure and device spending, but that demand can reverse or pause. Salesforce’s RPO and subscription model offer more contractual visibility, although renewal and expansion performance still determine how much of that base turns into future growth.
Balance sheet and cash flow: what is known and what is missing
The supplied company figures do not establish comparable cash balances, debt, operating cash flow, free cash flow, capital-expenditure needs, gross margins or share-count changes for either company. It would be inaccurate to declare AMD or Salesforce the balance-sheet winner from revenue and ARR data alone.

- Cash and investments: compare liquidity with near-term obligations and strategic spending needs.
- Debt and maturities: identify refinancing exposure and whether interest expense could limit flexibility.
- Operating and free cash flow: determine how much reported growth becomes cash after working capital and capital spending.
- Capital intensity: examine AMD’s inventory, supply commitments and other requirements associated with product launches; for Salesforce, examine infrastructure and integration spending alongside software margins.
- Dilution and compensation: check whether stock-based compensation and share issuance materially affect per-share results.
These checks are not optional details. A high-growth company can still produce a poor investment if cash conversion deteriorates, while a slower grower can create value if recurring cash flow and valuation are attractive.
Principal risks and execution fault lines
AMD’s identifiable risks
AMD’s filing highlights competition, export controls and other government actions, semiconductor cyclicality, dependence on third-party manufacturing and supply chains, product-timing and execution risk, cybersecurity, customer concentration and stock-price volatility. Each risk can affect a different part of the thesis.

- Competition: a technically strong product can lose demand if rivals offer better performance, software compatibility, price or availability.
- Export rules: policy changes can restrict products or customers, making the approximately $100 million MI308 China component of the Q1 outlook especially important to interpret within its stated period.
- Manufacturing and supply: limited capacity or packaging constraints can prevent AMD from converting orders into shipments.
- Cycles: customers may reduce inventories after a period of heavy spending, creating sharp quarter-to-quarter variability.
- Concentration and volatility: large customers or a narrow set of products can amplify the effect of a lost order or disappointing launch.
Salesforce’s key investor questions
The available Salesforce disclosures establish strong AI ARR growth and higher FY2027 subscription guidance, but they do not quantify churn, free-cash-flow conversion, customer concentration or the profitability of Agentforce. Investors should therefore test whether the reported momentum is broad and durable.
- Are Agentforce and Data 360 deployments expanding across existing customers or concentrated in a small number of early adopters?
- Does rapid ARR growth translate into recognized subscription revenue without offsetting weakness in the core platform?
- Can Salesforce sustain slightly above 12% subscription-and-support growth after the initial AI adoption surge?
- What are the incremental infrastructure, sales and support costs required to deliver autonomous-agent features?
- How do renewal rates and contract duration affect the quality of the $72 billion RPO balance?
These are diligence questions rather than claims that a specific weakness has already occurred. The annual report’s description of Agentforce explains what the platform is designed to do; subsequent filings must show how effectively that design becomes profitable, recurring usage.
Valuation is the missing deciding variable
Current share prices and valuation multiples are not established in the available evidence. That omission prevents a factual declaration that AMD or Salesforce is cheaper, fairly valued or overpriced on 20 October 2026. The same operating results can support opposite investment decisions at different entry prices.
Refresh the following figures immediately before making a decision:
| Metric | Why it matters for AMD | Why it matters for Salesforce |
|---|---|---|
| Forward price-to-earnings ratio | Tests how much the market is paying for cyclical earnings that may move with product demand | Tests the premium assigned to recurring software earnings and AI reacceleration |
| Enterprise value-to-sales | Useful when accelerator investment and earnings are changing quickly | Useful for comparing a mature subscription base with AI-driven growth |
| Free-cash-flow yield | Shows whether growth converts into cash after investment and working-capital needs | Shows whether recurring revenue produces shareholder cash after cloud and operating costs |
| Growth-adjusted valuation | Helps assess whether a 34% historical growth rate is already priced in | Helps assess whether a 10% historical rate and slightly above 12% guidance justify an AI premium |
| Market expectations | Compare the price with the execution required for data-center and accelerator expansion | Compare the price with the growth needed to sustain Agentforce enthusiasm |
Do not mix fiscal-year labels or use a single trailing multiple as the entire analysis. AMD’s FY2025 results and Salesforce’s FY2026 results are different reporting periods, and forward estimates can change after guidance updates. Record the date, source and definition of every multiple you use.

Which stock fits which type of investor?
AMD may fit a higher-risk growth approach
AMD is the more natural fit for an investor who prioritizes faster reported growth and wants direct exposure to AI-compute infrastructure. The case rests on sustaining data-center momentum, expanding accelerator adoption and executing product launches despite manufacturing, policy and competitive risks. The trade-off is that earnings and the share price can react sharply to semiconductor cycles or a single execution problem.

Salesforce may fit a recurring-revenue approach
Salesforce may suit an investor who values subscription visibility, contracted performance obligations and the possibility of selling more AI functionality to an established enterprise base. Its disclosed growth is slower, but the $72 billion RPO balance and rapidly rising Agentforce and Data 360 ARR provide evidence of commercial scale. The trade-off is that the investment case depends on converting AI enthusiasm into sustained subscription growth and cash generation.
When neither is suitable
If the required valuation refresh shows that the market price assumes flawless execution, waiting can be rational even when the business outlook is attractive. Likewise, an investor unable to tolerate semiconductor volatility should not choose AMD solely because its historical growth rate is higher. Someone seeking predictable income should also verify dividend policy and cash-flow data rather than infer them from revenue figures; those details are not supplied here.
A practical AMD-versus-Salesforce decision process
- Normalize the periods. Write down that the AMD comparison uses FY2025 results and the Salesforce comparison uses FY2026 results. Keep fiscal labels attached to every number.
- Refresh market data. Record each stock’s current price, diluted share count, market capitalization, enterprise value and forward earnings or sales estimates on the same date.
- Update operating evidence. Check AMD’s latest Data Center, Client and Gaming results and guidance, and Salesforce’s latest subscription growth, RPO, Agentforce ARR and Data 360 ARR.
- Test cash economics. Compare cash, debt, operating cash flow, free cash flow, capital spending and stock-based compensation from the latest filings.
- Stress the thesis. For AMD, model weaker semiconductor demand, delayed products, tighter export rules or constrained supply. For Salesforce, model slower AI conversion, lower expansion or subscription growth below guidance.
- Choose by risk budget. Select AMD only if the portfolio can absorb higher cyclicality and volatility; select Salesforce only if the valuation leaves room for execution risk and slower baseline growth.
- Define what would change your mind. Set measurable triggers such as a sustained data-center slowdown, a material guidance cut, weakening RPO growth, or Agentforce ARR failing to translate into subscription momentum.
What to monitor after buying
AMD investors should follow Data Center revenue, accelerator availability, product launch timing, customer concentration, export-control developments and the gap between guidance and delivered revenue. The Q1 2026 outlook’s plus-or-minus $300 million range illustrates why a single quarter should be read alongside product and market commentary.
Recommended Free Tools
Salesforce investors should follow total subscription-and-support growth, RPO growth, Agentforce ARR, Data 360 ARR, renewal and expansion indicators, margins and free-cash-flow conversion. The key distinction is between a fast-growing ARR run rate and durable recognized revenue. A future update that keeps AI ARR growing but reduces overall subscription guidance would require a different interpretation from one that lifts both measures.
Bottom-line decision
AMD is the higher-growth, higher-cyclicality option. Its FY2025 revenue grew 34%, with strong Data Center and Client and Gaming contributions, and its AI-infrastructure opportunity could be substantial. That upside comes with exposure to semiconductor cycles, competition, export controls, third-party manufacturing, supply constraints and product execution.
Salesforce is the steadier recurring-revenue alternative in this comparison. FY2026 revenue grew 10%, RPO reached $72 billion, and Agentforce and Data 360 ARR exceeded $2.9 billion while Agentforce ARR reached $800 million. The investment case is less about headline acceleration today and more about whether AI agents can sustain subscription growth above the current base.
Therefore, AMD is the better fit for an investor deliberately accepting volatility in pursuit of faster growth, while Salesforce is the better fit for an investor prioritizing contracted enterprise software revenue and AI upsell potential. Neither can be called the better buy without current valuation and cash-flow data. Refresh those figures, apply the stress tests above and make the choice consistent with your risk tolerance rather than with the larger growth percentage alone.
