AMD has confirmed that its former “Verano” codename refers to EPYC 9006 LP, a processor designed for AI host nodes in rack-scale systems. The company says it supports LPDDR memory and can reach up to 5 GHz. A separate report says a Dynatron cooler listing identifies a new Socket SB1, but AMD has not confirmed that socket in the official materials reviewed, and the cooler is listed as not yet determined.
What AMD has confirmed about Verano
AMD’s 2026 event materials identify EPYC 9006 LP as the processor formerly codenamed “Verano.” It is a distinct product in AMD’s 6th Gen EPYC direction, not another name for the regular Venice product.

AMD describes EPYC 9006 LP as an AI host-node CPU for next-generation rack-scale AI systems. Its stated role is to keep accelerators supplied with data in dense, multi-accelerator systems. AMD also lists LPDDR support and a maximum frequency of up to 5 GHz. These are vendor specifications and positioning statements, not independently measured results. AMD’s AAI 2026 announcement provides the product framing.
Has AMD confirmed Socket SB1?
No. Reports say Dynatron’s listing for a cooler called “SB1-4U-ACTIVE” identifies Socket SB1. That is evidence of a reported socket designation, not an AMD platform specification. ComputerBase cautions that the listing could contain placeholder details; its October 5, 2026 report traces the designation to Dynatron. VideoCardz likewise attributes the wording to the cooler listing and describes the product’s status as not yet determined (October 6, 2026 report).
#1 Best Overall
- Sockel SP5, 64 x 3.1 GHz (Boost 3.75) GHz
- 384 MB L3 Cache, 64 cores/ 128 threats
- 12-channel memory support up to DDR5-4800 MHz
- Max. Performance consumption 360 watts (structural width 5 Nm)
- Tray (without cooler)
Accordingly, “AMD confirmed Verano as EPYC 9006 LP” is supported; “AMD confirmed Socket SB1” is not. The reported Dynatron SB1-4U-ACTIVE cooler should not be treated as shipping, generally available, or validated for production systems.
What is known about memory, timing, and the roadmap
AMD’s event materials state LPDDR support, but do not establish every implementation detail in the material cited here. ComputerBase reports that AMD indicated LPDDR5X SOCAMM2 and availability in 2027; treat that module detail and timing as reporting, not as a confirmed specification in AMD’s directly cited event announcement.

In a May 21, 2026 newsroom release, AMD said Venice was ramping on TSMC’s 2 nm process and that it planned to extend 2 nm across its data-center CPU roadmap with Verano. AMD also characterized the roadmap direction as optimized for performance per dollar per watt. Those are forward-looking company statements and an optimization goal, not proof of a measured Verano result. AMD’s newsroom announcement gives that roadmap context.

What remains unverified
- AMD’s official socket specification for EPYC 9006 LP and final confirmation of the SB1 designation.
- Final Verano configurations and independently attributable performance figures. No Verano-specific measured statistic is established by the cited material.
- Production-system compatibility, validated cooling, system availability, and pricing.
The cooler-listing report also speculates that a BGA package may be likely, which would mean the processor is soldered to the motherboard. That interpretation is not confirmed by AMD, so it should not be used as a platform-planning assumption.

What this means for server buyers
For now, Verano is a disclosed product direction rather than a sufficiently specified platform to evaluate against shipping systems. AMD’s stated host-node role, LPDDR support, and up-to-5-GHz ceiling give an early outline, but they do not establish real-world accelerator-feed performance or total system value.
Before comparing or planning around an SB1 system, wait for confirmed processor configurations and memory specifications, system-level performance and power data under comparable conditions, and OEM validation of cooling and platform availability. A cooler listing alone cannot establish compatibility or production readiness.
