Which Amazon settlement is this?
This is the U.S. case In re: Amazon Return Policy Litigation, Case No. 2:23-cv-01372-JNW. It concerns certain physical-product returns and refund problems, including later incorrect charges for returned items. It is not the separate Federal Trade Commission matter concerning Amazon Prime enrollment and cancellation.

The settlement is proposed, not finally approved. The administrator lists a final approval hearing for March 16, 2027. The notice says the proposed settlement is not the Court’s opinion on the merits; it should not be read as a finding that Amazon deliberately withheld any particular customer’s refund.

Who may be included?
The settlement notice describes a U.S. class involving physical products sold through Amazon.com and received in the United States from September 5, 2017 through February 12, 2026. A person may qualify if they initiated a return or requested a refund and, according to Amazon’s records, either:
#1 Best Overall
- Amazon.com Gift Cards never expire and carry no fees.
- Multiple gift card designs and denominations to choose from.
- Redeemable towards millions of items store-wide at Amazon.com or certain affiliated websites.
- Available for immediate delivery. Gift cards sent by email can be scheduled up to a year in advance.
- No returns and no refunds on Gift Cards.
- Incorrectly did not receive a refund, or received an untimely or incorrect refund; or
- Received a refund but was later incorrectly charged for the returned item.
These criteria do not establish that any particular order qualifies. Check the notice and the administrator’s records-based instructions; your Amazon order history and return or refund records may help you identify relevant transactions.
Do you need to file a claim?
The proposed settlement divides eligible transactions between two subclasses. The administrator’s practical instructions differ by subclass, and a person may have transactions in both.

| Subclass | How the proposed process works | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Subclass A | Transactions associated with certain computer or payment-processing errors, or return records that did not complete Amazon’s review process. Payments are set to be automatic. | No claim form is required for the automatic payment process. Check the official site for your specific notice and any instructions. |
| Subclass B | Other qualifying failed-refund or later-charge transactions where the records do not establish the error in the same way. | Submit an eligible claim form by December 1, 2026, to be considered for payment. |
The categories describe the proposed settlement allocation; they are not a guarantee that a transaction or person qualifies. Use the administrator’s website for current instructions.

The administrator lists December 1, 2026 as the deadline to file a claim, exclude yourself from the settlement, or submit an objection or comment. The listed final approval hearing is March 16, 2027. Confirm the dates and instructions on the official site before acting.

Filing a claim is for eligible Subclass B members seeking payment. Excluding yourself means opting out rather than remaining bound by the settlement; objecting or commenting is a different action from opting out. The effects of those choices can depend on your circumstances, so review the settlement notice and consult a lawyer if you need advice about an individual legal decision.
How much could you receive?
The proposed agreement allocates 92.7% of the net settlement fund to Subclass A and 7.3% to Subclass B. Those are shares of the net fund, not percentages of an individual’s loss and not promised award amounts. Subclass A’s proposed distribution is based on unpaid transaction amounts plus a proportional amount related to potential prejudgment interest. Subclass B’s proposed distribution is proportional to qualifying unpaid amounts and potential interest for claimants who establish membership and entitlement.

The sources do not establish an individual payment amount. The result depends on the settlement process and the eligible transactions and claims; do not assume a fixed payout.
How are payments selected?
The proposed agreement lists PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, ACH transfer, prepaid card, Amazon credit, or check as payment methods, subject to the administrator’s process and the member’s selection. Follow the current payment-selection directions on the official settlement site.

How to avoid confusing this with the FTC Prime refund program
The FTC’s Amazon refund program is separate and addresses Prime enrollment and cancellation practices, not the physical-product return and refund claims in this class action. The FTC says consumers do not need to pay anyone to receive an FTC refund. For this return-policy settlement, rely on the administrator’s official site for claim and payment steps, and be wary of anyone demanding a fee to obtain a settlement payment.
