How long do Amazon Lightning Deals last?
Amazon’s U.S. seller guidance says a Lightning Deal can run for 4 to 12 hours, with Amazon determining its duration. That is the scheduled run time, not a promise that the offer or its discounted stock will remain available until the countdown ends. Amazon’s shopper guidance says a deal can end earlier when its promotional quantity sells out. For a specific offer, use the timer and terms displayed on its deal page. The event context can matter: Amazon’s 2026 Prime Day seller playbook describes Prime Day Lightning Deals as running up to 12 hours or until sold out, and identifies them as Prime-Exclusive Lightning Deals. That event guidance does not mean every Lightning Deal outside Prime Day has the same access rule. Amazon’s 2026 Prime Day readiness playbook is seller-facing event guidance, so shoppers should confirm the terms shown for the current event and offer.
Lightning Deals versus Best Deals
In Amazon’s seller promotion guidance, Lightning Deals are short-run promotions, usually 4 to 12 hours, while Best Deals run for a selected number of days. These are distinctions between seller promotion formats; Amazon selects and schedules offers. Amazon’s seller promotion guide describes both formats.

What are the quantity limits, and what happens if a deal sells out?
The discounted allocation is limited, and the limit can apply even while the countdown is still running. Amazon’s U.S. shopper guide reports a one-item-per-customer limit for Lightning Deals. It also explains that if discounts are already claimed or held in other customers’ carts, the deal page may offer a waitlist. A waitlist is not a guarantee that an item will become available; it is a way to join the queue if a promotional discount is released. How long do you have to check out after adding a Lightning Deal?
Amazon UK’s Lightning Deals guide says shoppers have 15 minutes after adding an item to the basket to complete checkout; otherwise, the promotional offer is released. This is UK-specific published guidance, not a universal checkout window for every Amazon marketplace. Follow the timer and checkout terms displayed for your own offer. Do you need Prime to access Lightning Deals?
Not always. Amazon says shoppers can generally use Lightning Deals outside some event-specific restrictions, while Prime members can preview upcoming offers. Its U.S. shopper guidance says Prime Day Lightning Deals are for Prime members, and Amazon’s 2026 Prime Day seller playbook describes Prime-Exclusive Lightning Deals. Access therefore depends on the event and offer, rather than a blanket rule for all Lightning Deals. Check the offer page for current eligibility. Amazon’s reviewed U.S. return policy does not establish a special return rule for Lightning Deals. Instead, apply the item’s ordinary return eligibility: Amazon says most items can be returned for a refund or replacement/exchange within 30 days of delivery if they are in original or unused condition. “Most” matters—eligibility and terms vary by item. Check the product page before buying and the return details in Order History after purchase, including the deadline for that specific order. Amazon’s U.S. Return Policy provides the general guidance.

How to decide whether to buy before the timer ends
- Check the offer’s item, quantity, eligibility, and checkout terms on its own deal page; do not assume another marketplace’s rules apply.
- Compare the current price with a price you consider acceptable. A deal badge or crossed-out price alone does not establish historical price or value.
- Review the item’s return eligibility and terms before purchase if returnability matters to your decision.
