Amazon’s documented lineup includes HD and 4K models, but a 4K-capable stick cannot make an HD television display 4K, and no stick includes subscriptions to paid streaming services.
Which Fire TV Stick models are current?
Amazon’s device specifications list the Fire TV Stick HD (2026), Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025), Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025), and Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023), as well as earlier devices. Names and availability can differ by marketplace, so check Amazon’s listing for your country before choosing. Amazon’s device specifications and its update log provide model details; Amazon’s Fire TV platform page describes content access at the platform level.

| Model | Amazon-listed features | Best fit to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick HD (2026) | Wi-Fi 6, 8 GB storage, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, AV1 support, and Alexa control via remote. Far-field Alexa control requires a linked Echo device. | An HD television or a buyer who does not need 4K but wants the listed connectivity and format support. |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) | 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6, an Alexa Voice Remote with power and volume controls, and 8 GB storage. | A 4K TV owner who wants the listed picture and audio formats without choosing based on the Max model’s additional features. |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025) | Amazon describes access to the Fire TV experience and content from major providers; the cited platform description does not establish every app’s availability in every region. | Someone considering this specific model should verify the apps they use and their regional availability before buying. |
| Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) | Wi-Fi 6E, Ambient Experience, Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Atmos, live camera picture-in-picture, Alexa controls, and Auto Low Latency Mode. | A 4K TV owner who will use the additional network, ambient, camera, or gaming-related features. |
These are manufacturer-listed capabilities, not independent measurements of speed or picture quality. Amazon calls the 4K Max its most powerful streaming stick; that is Amazon’s positioning, not an independently verified ranking. Feature details are listed on Amazon’s specifications page.
Which Fire TV Stick should you buy?
Choose by TV resolution first
If your TV is HD, a 4K stick will not turn its screen into a 4K display. For an HD set, the HD (2026) may be a sensible fit if its feature set meets your needs. With a 4K TV, compare the HDR formats supported by both the stick and the television. A format listed for the stick does not mean your TV supports it or that every title is available in it.

Match the stick to your home Wi-Fi
The HD (2026) and 4K Plus (2025) list Wi-Fi 6; the 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) lists Wi-Fi 6E. These labels describe device capabilities, not guaranteed streaming speeds in a particular home. Router compatibility, distance, interference, and internet service all affect the result. If your router cannot use the stick’s newer Wi-Fi capability, that specification alone is not a reason to expect faster streaming.
Check the whole audio chain
The 4K Plus and 4K Max list Dolby Atmos support. To hear that format, the content and the connected audio equipment must also support it, and the setup must be configured appropriately. A stick’s capability is only one part of the audio chain.

Decide whether you will use the extras
The 4K Max’s Ambient Experience, live camera picture-in-picture, and Auto Low Latency Mode matter most to buyers who expect to use them. The HD model supports voice control through its remote; its specification describes far-field Alexa control only with a linked Echo device. The 4K Plus remote includes power and volume controls. Check the model’s exact feature list rather than assuming that all voice or smart-home features work in the same way.
What’s the difference between Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max?
“4K” can refer to different model names across generations. In Amazon’s documented lineup, the 4K Plus (2025) specifies Wi-Fi 6, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, and 8 GB storage. The 4K Max (2nd Gen, 2023) specifies Wi-Fi 6E and adds features including Ambient Experience, live camera picture-in-picture, and Auto Low Latency Mode; its listed HDR formats include Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. Compare the exact model and generation on the marketplace where you plan to buy, since the names alone do not establish identical specifications. Amazon’s model specifications are the reference for those capabilities.

Will Fire TV Stick include the streaming services?
No: access to apps or content does not establish that a paid subscription is included. Subscription requirements, app availability, and catalogs can vary by service and region. Before buying, confirm that the specific apps you use are listed for your marketplace and check each provider’s subscription terms. Amazon describes the Fire TV platform as providing access to content from providers, but that is not a promise of universal app availability or included subscriptions.
