Amazon DeepFleet is an internal AI model suite designed to help coordinate mobile robots in Amazon fulfillment and sortation facilities. Amazon says it improves robot travel time by 10%, but that figure is a company-reported result—not an independently validated benchmark for other warehouses.
What is Amazon DeepFleet?
DeepFleet is a foundation-model effort for managing the movement and work of robot fleets across Amazon’s warehouse network. Its intended role includes predicting how robot traffic may unfold, assigning tasks, and routing robots around potential congestion. It is not a robot sold to consumers, nor is it a general-purpose warehouse product that other companies can simply deploy.
DeepFleet sits within a larger operational system. Amazon facilities use mobile drive units to move inventory pods, robots that handle packages, and autonomous systems such as Proteus to move carts in open areas. Amazon describes DeepFleet as integrated with that robotics network rather than as a replacement for the robots themselves.
What does DeepFleet do?
Warehouse robots share space, and one robot’s route or task can affect the movement of others. Planning therefore requires estimating how activity across a fleet may interact. Amazon Science’s August 11, 2025 explainer says DeepFleet can support task assignment and route planning around likely congestion.

Amazon applied-science senior manager Joey Durham said that accurately simulating interactions among thousands of robots faster than real time is prohibitively resource intensive for the company’s existing planning workload. He contrasted that approach with a learned model that can infer likely traffic more quickly. In practical terms, the model is intended to help planners anticipate traffic patterns without relying only on exhaustive, high-cost simulations.
Does DeepFleet really make robots 10% faster?
Amazon’s June 30, 2025 launch announcement says DeepFleet improves robot travel time by 10%. Amazon Science’s later explainer describes the outcome as a 10% increase in robot-deployment efficiency. Those are Amazon’s claims, and the wording differs: the announcement refers to travel time, while the technical explainer uses deployment efficiency.

The public sources cited here do not provide an independent replication or enough methodological detail to treat the figure as a universal performance guarantee. It should not be read as proof that any warehouse using a similar AI system will get 10% faster, or that every robot completes every journey 10% sooner.
What models does the technical report evaluate?
The technical report, DeepFleet: Multi-Agent Foundation Models for Mobile Robots, describes four architectures trained using robot positions, goals, and interactions from hundreds of thousands of Amazon warehouse robots. These are research model designs and evaluation results; the report does not establish that all four architectures are deployed in Amazon’s operations.

The metric leaders depend on what the model is predicting: robot-centric performed best for congestion-delay and position/state prediction, while robot-floor led for timing estimation. Graph-floor’s reported strength is its combination of strong results and a smaller parameter count relative to the two larger alternatives. These are prediction findings within the report’s evaluation, not a direct comparison of warehouse throughput or proof of operational deployment.
What is known about Amazon’s deployment?
In its June 30, 2025 announcement, Amazon said it had deployed its one-millionth robot to a fulfillment center in Japan and that its global network covered more than 300 facilities. Those are dated company figures from the announcement, not current counts or measures of DeepFleet’s individual impact.

Amazon says it built DeepFleet using internal inventory-movement data and AWS tools, including SageMaker. That establishes SageMaker as part of the development context; it does not mean AWS customers can access DeepFleet through SageMaker.

The report is an Amazon Robotics technical report hosted on arXiv, last revised April 13, 2026; its availability as a paper is not the same as access to the model or its operational system.
