You can get email into Slack in four ways: route mail to a channel or conversation using its Slack email address, forward it to your personal Slackbot address, or share a selected message from Gmail or Outlook. The best option depends on whether you want automatic forwarding or to choose messages one at a time. Slack’s documented plan and admin controls also determine which routes are available.
Choose the right way to send email to Slack

Slack lists conversation email addresses as a paid-plan feature, while the personal forwarding address and Gmail and Outlook add-ons are available on all plans. Forward email to a Slack channel or conversation
Use a conversation email address when messages should go to a shared channel or a particular direct message. You can send an email to the address yourself or use it as the destination in an automatic forwarding rule in your email client.

- Click the conversation name in the header, then open Automations.
- Select Send emails to this [channel] or [conversation], then click Get Email Address.
- Copy the address. Use it as the recipient for a one-off email, or add it to a forwarding rule in your email client.
Slack says you can customize the icon and displayed name associated with messages sent to the conversation. On mobile, open the conversation, tap its header, and select Copy channel email.

Who can use the address
Treat this address like a shareable route, not a private credential: Slack says anyone who has it can send email into the conversation. Messages posted to a channel are visible to its members. In a shared channel involving other organizations, each organization may create its own address, and email sent to the channel can be seen by all members.
If the address-creation option is missing, an owner or admin may have restricted which members can create these addresses. An authorized user can delete an address; messages sent to a deleted address will no longer post in Slack.

Forward email to your own Slackbot DM
Choose the personal forwarding address if you want incoming mail delivered to your own Slackbot conversation rather than a shared channel.

- In Slack on desktop, open your profile and select Preferences.
- Open Messages & media.
- Under Bring emails into Slack, select Get a Forwarding Address and copy the address.
- In your email client, create a forwarding rule that sends the messages you want to that address, or send an email to it manually.
To turn off the route, return to Preferences > Messages & media > Bring emails into Slack and select Disable this address. Slack lists this personal address as available on all plans.

Send a selected email from Gmail
The Gmail add-on is useful when you want to choose individual messages instead of forwarding a whole class of incoming mail. Install Slack for Gmail from Google Workspace Marketplace. A Google Workspace administrator may need to approve the add-on for your organization.
- Open the email in Gmail.
- Select the Slack icon in Gmail’s right sidebar.
- Choose the Slack workspace and the channel or person that should receive it.
- Add a note if needed, then send. The Marketplace listing says the add-on can include attachments.
Send a selected email from Outlook
For supported Outlook setups, install Slack for Outlook from Microsoft AppSource, connect it to your Slack workspace, open an email, and use the Slack icon or Send to Slack menu action. Choose a channel or person and send the message.

Check compatibility and message limits
Slack’s guide excludes on-premises Exchange and says the add-in requires the Exchange protocol rather than POP or IMAP. It also excludes specified Microsoft national-cloud Office 365 deployments. The AppSource listing further requires an Office 365 Commercial subscription and an Outlook version tied to O365 cloud that supports add-ins. If your setup does not meet these requirements, use another Slack email route.

These limits are stated in Slack’s current Outlook Marketplace listing; they are not general limits for every way of sending email to Slack.

Admin controls and privacy considerations
Incoming email is subject to workspace policy. Slack says Business+ and Enterprise owners or admins can enable or disable incoming emails; Pro admins cannot manage incoming email at the workspace level. Admins can also control who may create channel or conversation addresses, and Business+ or Enterprise admins can apply a sender-domain allowlist. Slack says HIPAA-compliant Enterprise organizations cannot send emails into Slack.
Before using an address for sensitive or broadly distributed mail, check who can access its destination and whether an admin has imposed restrictions. A channel address can be used by anyone who obtains it, and email sent to a channel is visible to its members.
Troubleshoot email that does not reach Slack
Check these documented controls and compatibility conditions first:

- You cannot create a conversation address: an admin may have limited who can create addresses; the feature also requires a paid plan.
- The address was deleted: email sent to a deleted conversation address will no longer post.
- A domain allowlist is in effect: on Business+ or Enterprise, an admin may have restricted which sender domains are allowed.
- The Outlook add-in is unavailable or fails: confirm that the account and Outlook version meet the documented cloud, subscription, protocol, and add-in requirements, and that the message stays within the listed limits.
- You use a HIPAA-compliant Enterprise workspace: Slack does not allow email to be sent into Slack for these organizations.
These checks address Slack’s published controls and add-in requirements; Slack’s documentation does not guarantee delivery behavior for every email provider or forwarding-rule configuration.
