Coforge, Mphasis and LTIMindtree are the closest alternatives to Persistent Systems for diversified Indian mid-cap IT-services exposure. Coforge has the strongest growth and large-deal evidence in the cited FY25 reporting, Mphasis offers a digital-services model with an early AI-investment story, and LTIMindtree brings greater scale and broad contract capability. KPIT, L&T Technology Services (LTTS) and Tata Elxsi are better treated as adjacent engineering-and-R&D (ER&D) choices, while Oracle Financial Services Software is a banking-software product alternative and Affle 3i is an AI-enabled advertising alternative.
The right substitute depends on whether you want growth, scale, sector concentration or a specialist technology exposure. “Mid-cap” also has more than one definition, so the companies below should not be treated as a uniform risk bucket.

The closest substitutes at a glance
Persistent Systems sits in the niche-focused, mid-tier segment of Indian IT services. Business Standard’s FY25 coverage grouped Persistent with Coforge, Mphasis and KPIT as mid-tier firms with specialized positioning. Persistent reported approximately 19% full-year revenue growth for FY25, while Coforge reported 31.5% growth over the same period.

- Coforge: the clearest growth-and-deal-momentum alternative in the cited FY25 evidence.
- Mphasis: a digital-services peer whose management highlights AI investments dating back to 2015–16.
- LTIMindtree: a larger platform with broader scale and a reported $450 million, seven-year contract.
- KPIT: an automotive-focused engineering specialist rather than a like-for-like diversified services company.
- LTTS and Tata Elxsi: specialist ER&D options with more focused engineering exposure.
- Oracle Financial Services Software: a banking-software product business, not a conventional IT-services substitute.
- Affle 3i: an AI-enabled advertising business, useful only if your intended exposure is broader than IT services.
Sonata Software also appears in the cited large-deal evidence, with a $73 million TMT contract, but the available figures do not place it in the same direct comparison set as the companies above.
What “mid-cap IT” means in this comparison
There is no single universal mid-cap test. ET Money’s June 2026 BSE IT snapshot used a cutoff covering companies below 20% of the sector’s market-cap universe. Mint described mid-sized IT-services companies more broadly as businesses with roughly $1 billion to $5 billion in annual revenue.
Those definitions produce different peer groups. A company can be mid-cap under a market-cap screen while being near the upper end of Mint’s revenue range, or vice versa. Market capitalisation, revenue growth, profit growth, margins, price-to-earnings ratios and contract values also change over time. The figures in the table are therefore a dated comparison point, not a permanent ranking.

| Coforge | Niche-focused IT services | ₹83,623 crore | 31.5% FY25 revenue growth; $1.56 billion, 13-year Sabre contract | Closest direct alternative on services and growth |
| Mphasis | Digital IT services | ₹46,402 crore | Early AI-lab investment highlighted by management; exact growth figure not stated here | Close services peer with a distinct AI narrative |
| L&T Technology Services | Specialist ER&D | ₹38,245 crore | $80 million and $50 million bookings reported by Financial Express | Adjacent engineering exposure, not diversified IT services |

| Tata Elxsi | Specialist ER&D and design | ₹23,022 crore | Specific growth or contract figure not stated in the cited material | Adjacent specialist exposure |
| KPIT | Automotive-focused engineering | Not listed in ET Money’s eight-company snapshot | 16% year-on-year Q4 growth reported by Business Standard | More concentrated automotive exposure |
ET Money’s snapshot reported aggregate mid-cap IT revenue growth of 19% year on year, net-profit growth of 21% and margin expansion of 161 basis points. Those are sector-level snapshot measures, not forecasts for every company in the table.
1. Coforge: the strongest direct growth alternative in the cited evidence
Coforge is the most obvious first comparison for an investor replacing or diversifying away from Persistent. Both are positioned as niche-focused, mid-tier IT-services firms, but the cited FY25 numbers favor Coforge on reported momentum: 31.5% full-year revenue growth versus approximately 19% for Persistent.
Deal size adds another distinction. Financial Express reported that Coforge signed a $1.56 billion, 13-year contract with Sabre. A contract of that size and duration can improve revenue visibility, although the announcement alone does not establish margins, cash conversion, implementation costs or the pace at which revenue will be recognised.
Business Standard’s coverage placed Coforge among the mid-tier companies challenging traditional operating models. Peter Bendor-Samuel, founder and executive chairman of Everest Group, said: “These firms have not been afraid of challenging the operating model.” That observation is useful as a description of the segment, not as a guarantee of future returns.

When Coforge fits
- You want the strongest reported FY25 growth among the directly comparable names in the available data.
- You place a high value on disclosed, long-duration contracts.
- You are comfortable with the execution risk that accompanies rapid expansion and large programme transitions.
What to verify before buying
- Whether the 31.5% growth rate is sustained after the FY25 comparison base.
- How the Sabre programme affects revenue concentration, margins and delivery costs.
- Current valuation and the three-year median valuation, refreshed at the time of purchase.
2. Mphasis: a digital-services peer with an early AI investment record
Mphasis is a closer business-model substitute than the ER&D specialists because it is a digital IT-services company. The cited material does not provide a directly comparable FY25 growth percentage for Mphasis, so it should not be ranked against Coforge or Persistent on growth using the available figures alone.
Its differentiator is the timing of its AI investment. Mphasis chief executive and managing director Nitin Rakesh said: “Our early investment in AI, which began with our first AI lab being set up in 2015-16, is showing results.” The statement establishes management’s claimed investment history; it does not by itself quantify revenue attributable to AI, profitability or customer adoption.
When Mphasis fits
- You want a digital-services peer but prefer to evaluate AI capability and services evolution rather than rely on a single headline growth number.
- You are willing to examine operating performance, bookings and margins directly because the cited comparison does not provide a matching growth statistic.
Key diligence questions
- How much current work is genuinely AI-led rather than conventional services re-labelled as AI-enabled.
- Whether AI productivity gains expand margins or instead lead clients to demand lower prices.
- How concentrated the client and industry mix is relative to Persistent.
3. LTIMindtree: more scale and contract breadth
LTIMindtree, labelled “LTM” in ET Money’s June 2026 table, had the largest market capitalisation among the listed companies at ₹1,32,708 crore. That makes it a scale alternative rather than a smaller, high-growth clone of Persistent.
Financial Express reported a $450 million, seven-year LTIMindtree contract. The disclosed value is materially smaller than Coforge’s Sabre award, but it still demonstrates the ability to win multi-year programmes. Contract size should be read alongside delivery obligations, renewal terms and the timing of revenue recognition; the cited report does not provide those details.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
When LTIMindtree fits
- You want diversified IT-services exposure with a larger balance-sheet and delivery platform.
- You prefer a mix of scale and long-term contract capability over the highest reported growth rate.
- You want to reduce the single-company concentration that can come with a smaller specialist.
Scale does not remove execution risk. Larger providers can face integration complexity, slower decision cycles and greater exposure to discretionary enterprise spending. Those factors need to be checked in current filings rather than inferred from market capitalisation alone.
4. KPIT: an automotive engineering bet, not a direct replacement
KPIT belongs in an alternatives discussion because it offers Indian mid-cap technology exposure, but its concentration is different. The cited material describes KPIT as mostly automotive. Business Standard reported 16% year-on-year growth in its fourth quarter, a metric that is not directly comparable with full-year growth rates for Persistent or Coforge.
KPIT therefore gives an investor a way to express a view on automotive software and engineering demand. It also introduces automotive-cycle exposure that a more diversified IT-services portfolio may not have to the same degree.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Choose KPIT when
- Your priority is automotive engineering and software rather than broad enterprise IT services.
- You accept that vehicle-production cycles, automaker budgets and programme timing can dominate results.
Do not treat KPIT as
A like-for-like replacement for Persistent’s broader mix. The difference in concentration means KPIT can move for reasons that have little to do with general digital-services demand.
5. LTTS and Tata Elxsi: specialist ER&D alternatives
L&T Technology Services and Tata Elxsi are engineering, research and development specialists. Their inclusion makes sense for investors who want technology exposure tied to product engineering, embedded systems or design-led work, but they are not exact substitutes for a diversified digital-services company.
Financial Express reported LTTS bookings of $80 million and $50 million. The source does not identify whether these amounts are one-time wins, the duration of each programme or their margin profile, so the figures should be used as evidence of disclosed booking activity rather than as a forecast of annual revenue.
Tata Elxsi’s June 2026 market capitalisation was ₹23,022 crore in ET Money’s snapshot, while LTTS was ₹38,245 crore. Neither figure establishes relative quality or future performance; both are point-in-time values.
When ER&D specialists fit
- You want a more focused engineering exposure than a generalist IT-services provider offers.
- You can assess product-development cycles, customer concentration and programme-specific execution.
- You accept that specialist demand may be more sensitive to industrial, automotive or discretionary product spending.
6. Oracle Financial Services Software: a banking-software product alternative
Oracle Financial Services Software had a ₹1,01,800 crore market capitalisation in ET Money’s June 2026 snapshot, making it larger than Persistent on that measure. Its business role is different: the available data identifies it as a banking-software product company, not a diversified outsourced-services provider.
This distinction matters for portfolio construction. A product business can have different licence, subscription, implementation and maintenance economics from a services company. It may therefore provide banking-technology exposure without reproducing Persistent’s mix of services revenue. The cited material does not provide a comparable FY25 growth rate, contract value or margin figure for Oracle Financial Services Software.
Use it as an alternative only if
Your objective is specifically financial-services technology or banking-software exposure. If you want a broad IT-services replacement, it belongs in a separate category rather than the primary peer set.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
7. Affle 3i: an AI-enabled advertising option
Affle 3i’s ₹24,256 crore market capitalisation in the June 2026 ET Money snapshot places it among the smaller names in that list. The available data describes it as an AI-enabled advertising company. Advertising technology has different demand drivers, customer budgets and monetisation mechanics from enterprise IT services.
Affle 3i can be relevant when “mid-cap IT exposure” is being used broadly to mean technology growth rather than a specific services model. It is not a close Persistent substitute, and the cited material does not provide a directly comparable growth, contract or valuation statistic.
Large contracts: useful evidence, not a complete ranking
Disclosed contract values help indicate sales momentum and potential revenue visibility, but they do not show profitability or shareholder returns. The cited 2025 figures are:
| Company | Reported contract or booking | Term disclosed? | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coforge | $1.56 billion Sabre contract | 13 years | Strongest disclosed scale and duration in this comparison; verify delivery economics |
| LTIMindtree | $450 million contract | Seven years | Evidence of large, multi-year deal capability |
| Sonata Software | $73 million TMT deal | Not stated in the cited material | Relevant adjacent evidence, but not enough to make Sonata a direct peer here |
| LTTS | $80 million and $50 million bookings | Not stated in the cited material | Shows booking activity; duration and revenue timing require verification |
Do not add contract values together as if they were current-year revenue. A multi-year total is recognised over its delivery period, and bookings may have different definitions across companies.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Growth, margins and valuation: how to compare without false precision
The available figures show a constructive segment backdrop: ET Money reported 19% year-on-year revenue growth, 21% net-profit growth and 161 basis points of margin expansion for mid-cap IT in its June 2026 snapshot. Business Standard reported approximately 19% FY25 revenue growth for Persistent, 31.5% for Coforge and 16% fourth-quarter growth for KPIT.
These measures cover different periods and therefore should not be placed in a single league table. Full-year growth, quarterly growth and sector aggregates answer different questions.

ET Money also reports current price-to-earnings ratios, three-year median P/E comparisons and margin changes for growth names. Exact P/E values are not included in the cited material here, and any such ratios should be refreshed before publication or investment. A stock trading below its own three-year median is not automatically cheap if earnings expectations are falling; a premium multiple is not automatically unjustified if growth and cash generation are durable.

Sector risks that can change the ranking
Tariff and macroeconomic uncertainty
ET Money and Mint both identify uncertainty around tariffs and enterprise spending. Cross-border policy changes can affect technology budgets, project timing and the cost of delivering services across regions.
Discretionary-spending pauses
Clients may delay optional transformation programmes even when they continue funding essential technology. This can create a gap between a company’s sales pipeline and signed, revenue-producing work.
AI-led pricing pressure
AI can increase employee productivity and create new demand, but it can also allow clients to seek lower prices or fewer billable hours. Mphasis’s early AI investment is a strategic fact; it is not proof that AI will raise margins in every period.

Automotive-cycle exposure
KPIT, and to a specialist extent other ER&D providers, can be more sensitive to automotive and product-development cycles than diversified IT-services companies. That concentration can improve upside when programmes accelerate and amplify downside when automakers defer spending.
Deal-concentration and execution risk
Large contracts improve visibility only if they are delivered profitably. Transition costs, staffing, customer concentration, currency movements and renewal terms can materially change the outcome.
A practical selection process
- Define the exposure you actually want. Choose diversified services, automotive engineering, specialist ER&D, banking software or advertising technology before comparing tickers.
- Set a growth-versus-scale preference. Coforge has the strongest cited FY25 growth and deal evidence; LTIMindtree offers the largest market-cap scale in the June 2026 snapshot.
- Measure concentration. Persistent is concentrated in BFSI, healthcare and life sciences, and software and hi-tech. KPIT is mostly automotive; LTTS and Tata Elxsi are specialist ER&D. Decide whether that concentration is intentional.
- Refresh valuation data. Recheck current P/E, three-year median P/E, market cap and margin trends because all are time-sensitive.
- Read the contract details. Confirm term, backlog conversion, implementation obligations, customer concentration and cash-collection terms rather than relying on headline deal value.
- Stress-test the macro case. Ask how tariffs, discretionary-spending pauses, AI pricing and automotive cycles would affect the specific company you are considering.
- Compare the result with your existing portfolio. An “alternative” that adds the same sector and customer concentration may increase risk without adding meaningful diversification.
How the alternatives map to common investor objectives
| Objective | Most relevant names | Why | Main qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Closest diversified services peer | Coforge, Mphasis, LTIMindtree | All are positioned closer to digital IT services than the ER&D or product alternatives | Growth, scale and AI exposure differ materially |
| Highest cited growth momentum | Coforge | 31.5% FY25 growth versus approximately 19% for Persistent | One reported year does not establish a lasting trend |
| Large-contract visibility | Coforge, LTIMindtree | Reported $1.56 billion/13-year and $450 million/seven-year contracts | Revenue timing and profitability are not disclosed in those headline figures |
| Automotive engineering | KPIT | Mostly automotive exposure and 16% Q4 growth reported | More cyclical and concentrated than a diversified services peer |
| Specialist ER&D | LTTS, Tata Elxsi | Focused engineering and product-development exposure | Not like-for-like replacements for Persistent |
| Banking technology products | Oracle Financial Services Software | Banking-software product model | Different economics from outsourced IT services |
| AI-enabled advertising | Affle 3i | Technology-growth exposure outside conventional IT services | Advertising demand and monetisation are distinct risk drivers |
What management commentary says about the segment
Persistent chief executive and executive director Sandeep Kalra described the demand environment this way: “Customers are seeing an uncertain environment. Things are fluid. There has been dragging of feet in deal closures.” That warning applies when interpreting both backlog and pipeline claims across the sector.
Analysts Kawaljeet Saluja, Sathishkumar S. and Vamshi Krishna of Kotak Institutional Equities wrote: “Smart deal structuring, share gains and favourable portfolio (low manufacturing exposure) will drive strong growth for mid-tier.” The comment highlights why portfolio mix matters: two companies with similar market capitalisations can react differently to manufacturing, automotive and discretionary spending cycles.
Bottom line for a Persistent replacement
Start with Coforge, Mphasis and LTIMindtree if you want the closest diversified IT-services alternatives. Coforge leads the cited FY25 growth and large-deal evidence; Mphasis offers a distinct early-AI investment narrative; LTIMindtree provides greater scale and a reported seven-year contract. Choose KPIT, LTTS or Tata Elxsi only when you deliberately want specialist engineering exposure, and treat Oracle Financial Services Software and Affle 3i as different technology business models rather than direct substitutes. No single company is established as universally best: the decision rests on the growth, concentration and risk profile you want in your portfolio.
