All-in-one 3D printing can mean two very different things. A multifunction machine combines a 3D printer with tools such as a laser and CNC spindle. A multi-tool or multi-material printer stays focused on additive manufacturing but changes filaments or print heads automatically. Choose the first type if you need printing, engraving, cutting and carving from one desktop platform; choose the second if your priority is cleaner, more reliable multi-material printing.
Snapmaker Artisan is the clearest example of a 3-in-1 fabrication machine. Bambu Lab H2D takes a broader integrated-workshop approach, adding digital cutting and optional rotary work. Prusa CORE One+ INDX, Prusa XL+, and Creality Hi Combo belong in a separate multi-material category rather than being direct substitutes for a laser-and-CNC system.

What “all-in-one 3D printing” actually means
The phrase is used for two product classes:
- Multifunction fabrication systems: one frame accepts different modules for 3D printing, laser engraving or cutting, and CNC carving or cutting.
- Multi-material 3D printers: one printer changes filaments or toolheads during a print so a model can contain several colors or materials.
Those approaches solve different problems. A multifunction system reduces the number of separate machines in a workshop, but you must manage more tooling, safety controls and workholding. A multi-material printer keeps the workflow centered on printing and can automate material changes, but it does not replace a laser cutter or CNC router.

Multifunction machines: printing, laser and CNC in one platform
Snapmaker Artisan: the clearest 3-in-1 interpretation
Snapmaker describes Artisan as a modular system with a one-minute quick-swap design. Its supported processes are 3D printing, laser engraving and cutting, and CNC carving and cutting. The listed modules include dual extrusion for dual-color or dual-material prints, 10W and 40W laser options, and a 200W CNC module.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The quick-swap idea is useful when your projects alternate between processes rather than combining them in one uninterrupted job. You can print a fixture, move to the laser module for markings, then use the CNC module for subtractive work. The practical cost is that every swap creates a new setup: install the correct head, secure the workpiece, select the appropriate software profile, and confirm that the machine’s origin and focus are correct.
What the Artisan configuration requires you to plan
- Module selection: decide whether a project needs the printer, a 10W or 40W laser, or the 200W CNC module before preparing the job.
- Material compatibility: printing filament, laser-safe sheet goods and machinable stock have different limits. Never assume a material that prints safely can also be lasered or milled.
- Workholding: CNC operations need a rigidly secured workpiece and suitable cutters. Thin or flexible stock can move, catch or produce inaccurate cuts.
- Calibration: verify the active module’s origin, bed or spoilboard height, focus and tool offset after a changeover.
- Dust and fumes: laser and CNC work create hazards that are not present during ordinary filament printing. Use the enclosure, extraction and protective procedures specified for the module and material.
Bambu Lab H2D: an integrated personal-manufacturing hub
Bambu Lab announced the H2D on March 25, 2025. The company describes it as an integrated platform for 3D printing, laser engraving and cutting, digital cutting and plotting, and multi-material printing. Optional rotary work is intended for cylindrical, spherical and ring-shaped objects.
That scope makes H2D broader than a printer with a color changer. It is designed as a personal-manufacturing hub in which additive, laser and digital-cutting jobs share a coordinated ecosystem. The company’s chief executive, Dr. Tao, described the goal as “the culmination of our vision to fundamentally transform how designers, engineers, and makers approach personal manufacturing.” Treat that statement as the product’s positioning, not as an independent performance test.

CORE One+ INDX is not a laser cutter or CNC router. Its “all-in-one” value comes from the number of printing tools and the ability to assign different materials to different parts of a model. An eight-tool configuration is a manufacturer-stated maximum; the useful number for your projects depends on the materials, tool setup and slicer profiles you maintain.
Prusa XL+: large-format independent toolheads
Prusa lists the XL+ with a 360 × 360 × 360 mm build volume and up to five independent toolheads. The larger cube is significant for furniture-scale components, enclosures and batches of smaller parts that would be cramped on a compact printer.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIndependent toolheads are particularly valuable when each material needs a dedicated nozzle or temperature profile. They can also reduce cross-material contamination compared with repeatedly feeding different filaments through one nozzle. The machine still requires careful tool calibration, first-layer checks and material-specific profiles.
Creality Hi Combo and expandable color capacity
Creality describes Hi Combo as an expandable CFS setup supporting up to 16 colors when four CFS units are used. RFID filament identification is intended to help the system recognize loaded material automatically.
This is an automated filament-management strategy rather than a collection of independent fabrication tools. It suits users who want many colors or a larger palette without manually unloading spools between jobs. Four CFS units, the required connections and compatible firmware are part of the real configuration, so confirm regional bundles and current compatibility before purchasing.

How to choose the right type
Choose a multifunction system when
- You need both additive and subtractive or laser processes in the same workshop.
- Projects include engraved panels, cut templates, carved plates or printed fixtures.
- You value a shared frame and software ecosystem more than the shortest possible setup time.
- You can provide safe ventilation, dust control, fire precautions and suitable workholding.
Choose a multi-material printer when
- Your main output is printed parts, not cut or engraved stock.
- You need soluble supports, flexible sections, carbon-fiber-filled components or many colors.
- You want automatic changes during one print rather than physically changing fabrication modules.
- You prefer to spend your maintenance budget on nozzles, tools, build surfaces and filament handling instead of laser and CNC accessories.
Use a simple project test
- List your ten most common projects from the past year.
- Mark each project as print-only, multi-material print, laser work or CNC work.
- Count how often you would change modules or materials in a typical week.
- Identify your largest part and compare it with the published build volume or work area.
- Reject any configuration that cannot be safely ventilated or that lacks the workholding and consumables your materials require.
Workspace, safety and ventilation
“All-in-one” does not mean every process is safe in the same operating conditions. Filament printing, laser processing and CNC machining produce different hazards. Laser work can create smoke and reflected energy; CNC work creates chips, dust and tool-breakage risks; some filaments release fumes or require controlled temperatures.
Plan the room before buying accessories. Confirm that the enclosure is appropriate for the selected process, that exhaust or filtration follows the manufacturer’s instructions, and that people cannot be exposed to an active laser beam. A generic 3D-printer air purifier is not automatically adequate for laser smoke, and filtration does not replace safe material selection or ventilation.
- Keep combustible materials away from laser operations.
- Use eye and hearing protection appropriate to the process and follow the manufacturer’s interlock rules.
- Secure CNC stock firmly and use cutters rated for the material.
- Provide clearance for moving axes, cable routing and module storage.
- Do not leave laser or CNC jobs unattended unless the manufacturer explicitly permits that operating practice.
A practical changeover workflow
Quick swaps save time only when the surrounding procedure is disciplined. Use this sequence for any modular system:
- Finish and cool: stop the current job, allow hot parts and tools to cool, and remove debris.
- Power down as required: follow the machine’s procedure before disconnecting a module or accessory.
- Install the new module: lock it mechanically, attach cables and check that no connector is under tension.
- Prepare the work surface: install the correct bed, spoilboard, honeycomb or fixture for the process.
- Set origin and offsets: home the machine, set the work origin, and perform focus, tool-length or height checks.
- Load the correct profile: select the module, material, tool and safety settings in the supported software.
- Run a small test: use scrap material or a calibration pattern before committing the final stock.
- Monitor the first minutes: check adhesion for printing, focus and smoke for laser work, and clamping and chip evacuation for CNC work.
Total cost and ownership factors
A base-machine price is only one part of an all-in-one purchase, and the available data does not establish current prices. Build a configuration-specific budget instead of comparing headline bundles.

Buying a multi-material printer for laser work
Symptom: you expect color printing hardware to engrave panels. Fix: select a multifunction platform with a laser module, or plan for a separate laser machine.
Assuming quick-swap means zero calibration
Symptom: cuts are offset, engraving is out of focus or CNC dimensions drift after a module change. Fix: repeat homing, origin, focus and tool-offset checks every time the module or work surface changes.
Ignoring material-specific hazards
Symptom: smoke, odor, excessive dust or damaged stock. Fix: verify that the material is approved for the process, improve extraction and use the prescribed protective equipment.
Overloading an automated material system
Symptom: jams, failed changes or incorrect colors. Fix: label spools, confirm RFID or profile data, inspect feed paths and keep filament dry when the material requires it.
Best Value

- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Choosing by maximum capacity alone
Symptom: a large or high-color configuration spends more time on setup than production. Fix: compare the published maximum with your actual part sizes, material count and weekly job frequency.
Bottom-line recommendations
For one desktop unit that genuinely prints, engraves, cuts and carves, start with the Snapmaker Artisan class of machine and budget for the required laser, CNC, ventilation and consumables. For a broader integrated workflow that also includes digital cutting, plotting, multi-material printing and optional rotary work, evaluate the Bambu Lab H2D.
If “all-in-one” means one printer that handles several materials with minimal manual intervention, compare Prusa CORE One+ INDX, Prusa XL+ and Creality Hi Combo instead. CORE One+ INDX emphasizes up to eight changing tools, XL+ emphasizes a 360 × 360 × 360 mm build volume with up to five independent toolheads, and Hi Combo emphasizes expandable color capacity up to 16 colors with four CFS units. The best choice is determined by your dominant process, workspace and tolerance for setup—not by the label alone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a multi-material 3D printer engrave or CNC-cut parts?
Not by virtue of having multiple filaments or toolheads. Engraving and CNC cutting require dedicated hardware, motion control and safety provisions such as those found on multifunction platforms.
Does a 3-in-1 machine perform all processes at the same time?
Generally, no. You change to the appropriate module and prepare the work surface and software profile for each process. The benefit is a shared platform, not simultaneous printing, laser cutting and milling.
Is a larger build volume always better for all-in-one work?
No. Build volume matters for printing, while laser and CNC jobs are also limited by work area, stock thickness, fixture space and safe machine travel. Match each process to your real project dimensions.
What should I verify before buying an all-in-one system?
Verify the exact regional bundle, module compatibility, firmware support, enclosure and ventilation requirements, included accessories, consumable availability and the space needed to store and install every tool.
