Battlefield 6 has four classes: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. Choose Assault to push infantry objectives, Engineer to repair friendly vehicles and counter enemy armor, Support to revive and resupply teammates, or Recon to spot threats and share battlefield information. In most modes, your class does not lock you to one weapon category; the playlist’s open- or closed-weapon rules determine how flexible your loadout is.
Battlefield 6 classes at a glance
| Class | Choose it for | Team contribution | Signature weapon |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assault | Fast infantry pushes and taking objectives | Creates openings and helps nearby squadmates interact with objectives faster | Assault Rifle |
| Engineer | Vehicle repair and anti-vehicle combat | Repairs friendly vehicles and attacks enemy vehicles or assets | SMG |
| Support | Revives, ammunition, and holding ground | Revives any teammate, supplies weapon ammunition, and provides cover | LMG |
| Recon | Scouting, spotting, and precision at range | Reveals enemy positions and helps the squad act on battlefield information | Sniper Rifle |
These are team roles, not rigid weapon locks in most playlists. EA’s Battlefield 6 Classes guide describes the four class identities; the practical differences come from signature abilities, traits, and the playlist’s weapon rules.

What each class does
Assault: lead infantry pushes
Assault is built for offensive anti-infantry play. Use it when you want to move quickly toward a developing fight, break through a defended position, or help your squad capture an objective. Its Adrenaline Injector temporarily boosts sprint speed and helps you prepare for combat; it does not grant extra health, so it is not a substitute for healing.

Engineer: keep friendly vehicles running and threaten enemy armor
Engineer has a two-sided vehicle job: repair allied vehicles with the Repair Tool and use anti-vehicle equipment, including mines and launchers, against enemy armor. EA identifies Engineer as the only class that can repair friendly vehicles. The Repair Tool can also damage enemy assets. The class’s signature SMG has improved hip-fire control.
Pick Engineer when vehicles are shaping the fight, even if you are not focused on vehicle kills. Staying close enough to repair an allied vehicle can help keep it in action, while anti-vehicle equipment gives your team another way to respond to enemy armor. See EA’s class guide for the current class details.
Support: revive teammates, restore supplies, and hold positions
All classes can revive squadmates, but Support can revive any teammate on the team and has access to the Defibrillator. A fully charged Defibrillator revives a downed player with full health. A fast revive is not always a safe one: avoid bringing someone back directly into clear danger, and use cover or drag a downed teammate to safety when possible.

The Supply Pouch restores weapon ammunition and a small amount of health. It does not refill gadget ammunition or grenades, so do not treat it as a complete resupply. Deployable Cover gives infantry a temporary barrier and can provide a weapon-mounting point for an LMG or a weapon equipped with a bipod. Support is a strong choice when your squad needs more chances to recover and stay supplied. EA explains these mechanics in its class guide.
Recon: gather information and help the team act on it
Recon is about scouting and sharing enemy information, not just fighting at long range. Its Motion Sensor reveals nearby moving enemies, vehicles, and gadgets. With Auto-Spot, looking at a hostile while aiming down sights can mark that enemy for teammates. Communicating spotted positions helps turn those markers into useful decisions for the squad.
Recon’s tools extend beyond spotting. EA describes options including drones, C4, laser designation, a Handheld Jammer, and a Hardware Suppression System. The Laser Designator can identify distant enemies, designate vehicles or map points, and help allied Engineers or aerial vehicles lock on. The jammer and suppression system disrupt enemy equipment and defenses. EA’s class guide provides further detail on Recon’s current tools.

How weapon choice works
In most modes, Battlefield 6 uses open weapons by default: any class can equip any weapon type. For example, an Engineer can take an assault rifle, or Support can use a sniper rifle. Closed-weapon experiences instead restrict players to their selected class’s signature weapon category, while also allowing carbines, DMRs, and shotguns as selectable options.

The signature categories are Assault Rifle for Assault, SMG for Engineer, LMG for Support, and Sniper Rifle for Recon. Signature weapons retain class benefits, so open weapons expand loadout choice without removing the class’s distinct role. Check the playlist’s weapon setting before building around a weapon that may not be available. EA details the rules in its Loadout Creation and Weapon Classes article.
How Field Specs progress during a round
Each class has two Field Specs. Level 0 is active automatically; team progression and score XP unlock the remaining levels during a round. Levels 1 and 2 grant passive abilities. A Level 3 ability can be used once; after use, progress returns to Level 2, and you can earn Level 3 again. All Field Spec progress resets when a new round starts.

For REDSEC, EA proposed removing the Drone Specialist and Hazmat Breacher alternate training paths; making Engineer’s Aim-Guided Launcher a starting unlock; changing Support’s gadget pool; moving Recon’s Drone to the loot pool and replacing it with the Handheld Jammer; and revising class training paths. The same section gives proposed training-path bonuses:
