If AirPlay will not connect to your Samsung TV, first confirm that the exact TV model supports AirPlay. Then check that AirPlay is enabled, both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, and their software is up to date. Work through the simpler checks before resetting Smart Hub: that reset signs you out of TV apps.
1. Check that your exact Samsung TV supports AirPlay
AirPlay is available on selected Samsung TVs and monitors, not every model from a particular year. Samsung’s UK compatibility guide lists selected models from 2018 onward, including some QLED, The Frame, UHD, Serif, Crystal UHD and Premiere televisions, as well as particular Smart Monitor models. That list does not mean every Samsung set from those years supports AirPlay. See Samsung’s AirPlay compatibility and setup guide.

On the TV, open Settings > General and look for Apple AirPlay Settings. The menu labels may vary by model and software. Samsung identifies this menu entry as an indicator of compatibility. If it is absent, check the support page or manual for your exact model and region before concluding that the TV is unsupported; Samsung’s guide says a missing AirPlay option means the device is not supported.

2. Check Wi-Fi, distance and software
- Make sure the TV is connected to Wi-Fi and the iPhone, iPad or Mac is on the same Wi-Fi network. Samsung also advises matching the network frequency; check your router and TV’s documented network settings rather than assuming a particular band will fix the issue.
- Keep the Apple device near the TV, and make sure both devices are powered on.
- Install available software updates for the TV and Apple device. Apple’s guidance is to keep AirPlay devices up to date and on the same Wi-Fi network. See Apple’s AirPlay troubleshooting guide.
3. Turn on AirPlay and try connecting again
On the Samsung TV, open Apple AirPlay Settings and make sure AirPlay is on. The menu path depends on the TV:

From a supported app on your Apple device, choose the TV as the AirPlay destination. If the TV displays a code, enter it on the Apple device. For app-specific instructions and Samsung’s setup steps, see Samsung’s AirPlay troubleshooting guide.
4. Test another app or type of content
If AirPlay fails in one streaming app, try a different app or content type—for example, a photo in Photos. Samsung suggests trying apps such as YouTube, Netflix or Photos. If another app works, focus on the original app and the particular content path; the test narrows down the problem but does not by itself establish what is causing it.

5. Check AirPlay settings on the Apple device
Apple recommends checking that AirPlay receiving is enabled on the source device. On iPhone, look under Settings > General > AirPlay & Continuity; on Mac, look under System Settings > General > AirDrop & Handoff. Labels can vary with operating-system version. Apple’s cited instructions name iPhone and Mac, so do not assume the same menu wording applies to every iPad or OS release.

If the TV is configured in the Home app, review its Home settings to check whether AirPlay access is restricted. Then restart the Apple device and TV and try again.

6. Check Samsung account and Smart Hub setup before resetting
If the AirPlay setting is missing or unavailable, Samsung says network trouble may be involved. Its guidance also says the TV should be signed in to a Samsung account and Smart Hub terms should be accepted. See Samsung’s troubleshooting steps and Samsung’s guide to grayed-out TV settings.
Samsung lists a Smart Hub reset as a later step that may make the AirPlay application download when its setting is missing. Treat it as a reset, not a guaranteed fix: it signs you out of TV apps. Have your app sign-in details and TV PIN ready. Samsung identifies 0000 as the default PIN, but it may have been changed. The exact reset path varies by model, so follow the instructions for your TV.

7. Restart the router or get device-specific help
If the earlier checks and Smart Hub guidance do not resolve the connection, Samsung’s troubleshooting flow suggests resetting the router as a later step. If the issue continues, contact Samsung about the TV or Apple about the source device and AirPlay. Manufacturer troubleshooting guidance is not a guarantee that any particular reset will fix the problem.
If the TV does not support AirPlay
An Apple TV streaming device can serve as an external AirPlay destination for a TV without built-in support. It is an alternative way to stream, not a repair for built-in AirPlay on a compatible Samsung TV that is malfunctioning. If you are already considering replacing an unsupported TV, verify AirPlay support for the exact replacement model and region before buying; compatibility is model-specific.
