In Aion 2, a Manastone’s grade determines which stats and roll qualities it can produce; each socket row then rolls a stat and its quality. Manastones fit weapons and armor, while Soulstones fit accessories. “Upgrading” usually means acquiring or crafting a higher-grade stone and socketing it—not improving a stone in place: the fan guides reviewed do not establish an in-place rarity upgrade.
What Manastones do—and where they go
Manastones add randomly rolled stats to weapons and armor. Soulstones are a separate item family for accessories. Check the item family and compatible slot before using a stone; they are not interchangeable. The unofficial Aion 2 Maps guide, updated October 2, 2026, also describes stones as additions to equipment rather than equipment enhancement itself.

Stone grade is not the same as a stat row’s quality
There are two different labels to keep straight. Grade belongs to the stone—Lesser, Intermediate, Superior, or an Abyssal variant. Quality belongs to the result on an individual row: Basic, Superior, or Ultimate. A Superior-grade stone can therefore produce a Basic-quality result; “Superior” can refer to either the stone grade or a row quality, depending on context.
The unofficial Xtopolis Manastones/Soulstones reference reports these eligible stat-pool sizes:

Those counts describe the pools in that fan reference, not a universal guarantee for every patch, region, or client version. The same source lists core options such as Attack, Defense, Accuracy Bonus, Evasion Bonus, Critical Hit, Critical Hit Resist, Block, HP, and MP. Its Superior pool also includes damage-related possibilities such as Damage Boost, Weapon Damage Boost, Critical Damage Boost, Back Attack Damage Boost, and Frontal Attack Damage Boost. Abyssal pools include PvP options such as PvP Attack and PvP Defense. The exact options and values depend on grade and type; use the current in-game tooltip for the stone you have.
How a stat roll works
Xtopolis describes a row as two selections: first a stat from that stone’s eligible pool, then a quality for that stat. Its listed row-quality odds are:

These are figures reported by an unofficial fan reference, not independently confirmed live NC rates. NC Corporation’s Aion 2 Probability Information portal lists a Manastone/Soulstone probability category, but its dynamic table was not readable for direct verification here. Check the current official disclosure for your region and version before relying on a precise rate.
Example: a Superior Manastone Attack result
In Xtopolis’s example, a Superior Manastone can roll Attack as +3 Basic, +5 Superior, or +10 Ultimate. The reference assigns Attack a 10% stat-selection chance and Basic quality a 50% chance, making that particular Basic Attack result 5% per row (10% × 50%) under its listed figures. Treat this as an attributed example, not an NC-confirmed rate.

Can the same stat appear twice?
Yes, according to Xtopolis’s description: rows roll independently, so duplicate stats are possible. A weapon with four rows can receive four separate results from one engrave; the rows are not described as a set that must contain four different stats.
Normal or Abyssal: which pool should you consider?
Choose based on the activity and the stat pool you want, not the word “Abyssal” alone. Xtopolis’s tables distinguish normal and Abyssal variants; the latter add PvP options, while its Superior non-Abyssal list includes the damage-boost options noted above. Which result is preferable depends on your class, build, activity, and current gear. The reviewed guides do not validate one universally best stat for every player.

What players mean by “upgrading” a Manastone
The term can mean two different equipment actions. Gear enhancement raises the equipment’s base stats; a Manastone adds a rolled stat. DBAion2’s September 24, 2026 guide treats these as separate systems in its overview of AION 2 equipment upgrading.

They do not establish a way to upgrade an already socketed stone in place. Xtopolis says Superior stones can be crafted through Alchemy and lists other sources—including drops, vendors, and shops—for stones by grade. Acquisition routes can change by patch and region, so confirm them in the current client.

When to socket an expensive stone
Aion 2 Maps reports that socketed stones do not survive gear transfer. On that basis, treat a valuable stone as an investment in the piece of equipment you expect to keep, rather than assuming it will move with the item. This transfer warning comes from an unofficial fan guide; check current in-game behavior before committing a particularly costly stone.
- Confirm whether the slot takes a Manastone or a Soulstone.
- Compare the stone’s grade and normal or Abyssal stat pool with your intended activity.
- Check the current tooltip and official probability disclosure for live options and odds.
- Consider the gear’s expected lifespan before using a high-value stone.
Do not assume older Aion or Aion Classic rules apply: the reviewed sources do not establish historical slot fasteners, socket-failure destruction, or old grade names as Aion 2 mechanics.
