No. An iPhone is not a supported phone for pairing and tracking a Samsung SmartTag. Samsung’s instructions limit SmartTag connections to Samsung mobile devices and tablets; installing SmartThings on an iPhone does not make it a compatible SmartTag setup device.
Why an iPhone cannot set up or track a SmartTag
Samsung SmartTags are designed to be set up and managed through SmartThings on compatible Samsung devices. Samsung says its SmartTags can connect only to Samsung mobile devices and tablets. Its SmartTag+ support page also explicitly says iOS devices are not supported.

That means you cannot use an iPhone to pair a new tag or rely on it for normal SmartTag tracking. Samsung’s cited documentation does not describe an iPhone-based workaround or an iPhone finding network for these tags.
Does SmartThings on iPhone work with SmartTag2?
The SmartThings app’s availability on iPhone is separate from SmartTag compatibility. Samsung product information lists the app for iOS 17 or later, while also stating that a compatible Samsung device is required to find SmartTag2. The app listing does not mean an iPhone can add and track a SmartTag.

Requirements vary by SmartTag generation

|---|---|---|
| Original SmartTag | Samsung mobile device running Android 8.0 or later, according to Samsung UK Support’s connection instructions. | Use SmartThings on the compatible Samsung device; activate the tag by pressing its button, then follow the in-app Add Now prompt. |
| SmartTag+ | Samsung device; iOS devices and third-party Android devices are not supported, according to Samsung UK Support. | AR Finding requires a Galaxy phone with UWB support; not every Galaxy phone supports this feature. |
| SmartTag2 | A Samsung regional setup guide specifies compatible Galaxy devices running Android 9.0 or later. Check support for your market. | Samsung account sign-in and registration with SmartThings Find are required. How to set up a SmartTag with a compatible Samsung phone
These steps are for supported Samsung devices, not iPhone setup.
Original SmartTag
- Install or open SmartThings on a compatible Samsung mobile device running Android 8.0 or later.
- Press the SmartTag’s button to activate it.
- When SmartThings displays the Add Now prompt, select it and follow the on-screen instructions.
SmartTag2
- Sign in to a Samsung account on a compatible Galaxy device. Samsung requires this account for SmartTag2.
- Activate the tag and add it through SmartThings, following the prompts. Samsung’s regional guide also describes QR-code setup.
- Register the tag with SmartThings Find so it can be found through Samsung’s service.
How SmartTag2 finds items outside Bluetooth range
Samsung states that SmartTag2 has Bluetooth range of up to 120 metres. This is a stated maximum, not guaranteed real-world performance; obstacles can affect accuracy. When the tag is out of Bluetooth range, Samsung says finding relies on the Galaxy Find network. The cited information describes Bluetooth and network-based finding, not GPS or an iPhone-based network.
Rank #2

What to do if you only have an iPhone
If you only use an iPhone, a Samsung SmartTag is not the right tracker for your setup needs: Samsung does not support iPhone pairing and tracking. The Samsung sources cited here do not establish a compatible alternative tracker, so check the manufacturer’s current compatibility information before choosing a different model.
