Before paying for an AI songwriting service, check three things first: whether the plan lets you export the music, what it permits you to do with each generation, and what rights you have in the lyrics or other material you contribute. A subscription’s commercial-use permission is not the same as copyright protection, and upgrading may not change the terms for songs you already made. Features, quotas, and terms can change, so confirm the current plan details before checkout.
Compare workflow, exports, and rights before price
A tool is only useful if it fits how you write and finish songs. Decide whether you need help drafting lyrics, generating full arrangements, editing an existing track, or shaping music from an audio reference. Then check whether the plan allows you to download the finished work in a form you can use outside the service.

- Creation and editing: Identify the controls you need, such as lyric editing, audio-guided generation, or voice controls. A feature available during a trial may not mean that the trial has higher usage limits.
- Credits and quotas: Check how many generations or downloads are included, whether unused credits carry over, and what happens when a subscription ends.
- Export: Confirm whether downloads are currently available, what formats are offered, and whether export is limited by plan or download credits. If you plan to release music, this is a core requirement—not a small convenience.
- Use rights: Read the terms for the plan and for the date each song was generated. Do not assume all plans or generations receive the same commercial permission.
- Billing: Compare trial length, renewal timing, cancellation deadline, and the recurring cost after any introductory period.
These are separate questions: a service may let you create a track without letting you download it, or permit commercial use without establishing that the track is copyrightable.

#1 Best Overall
| Service | Documented plan or usage detail | Export and commercial-use considerations |
|---|---|---|
| Suno | Its help pages distinguish free, Pro, and Premier use. The downloads article lists 20 download credits per month for Pro and 60 per month for Premier; Suno Studio workflows are described as not subject to those download limits. Suno’s download rules | Suno says tracks downloaded while subscribed have commercial-use rights, including monetization through streaming, film, TV, games, or independent sale, under its stated terms. It also says that upgrading does not by default grant commercial rights retroactively to songs made on the free plan. Paid-plan rights · Earlier free-plan songs |
| Udio | Its help page describes a one-time Standard trial of up to seven days. Subscription credits do not roll over monthly; one-off purchased credits do not expire, according to its credit help page. Trial terms · Credit rules | The trial article describes editing, audio-upload-guided generation, Voice Control, and style referencing, but does not give increased credit limits for the trial. AP reported in October 2025 that downloads were stopped as part of Udio’s transition following a settlement; that dated report does not establish the service’s current export policy. Check Udio’s current terms directly. Associated Press report |
| BandLab | Its Membership FAQ describes a free tier, Pro, and Max, along with AI tools including Voice Cleaner and AutoMix. The page lists Pro at $14.99 per month after a three-day monthly trial, or $99 for the first annual year followed by $149 per year. Max annual pricing is listed as $199 for the first year then $299; monthly Max is marked “Coming Soon!” These are U.S.-displayed figures on the FAQ and may change. BandLab membership terms | The cited FAQ does not establish a specific export allowance or AI-song commercial-use rule; check the current terms for the exact workflow you intend to use. Trials and subscriptions renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the billing date, according to the FAQ. |
Commercial use is not the same as copyright
Commercial-use permission is a service-contract question: it describes what the provider allows you to do under its terms. Copyright is a legal question, and a paid plan does not automatically make generated audio copyrightable or exclusive.
Suno’s paid-plan help page says subscribers may monetize eligible tracks made while subscribed, but warns: “Keep in mind, granting commercial use rights does not guarantee copyright protection!” Suno’s paid-plan explanation
Rank #2
Suno separately says that fully AI-generated music without human-written lyrics or music would not qualify for U.S. copyright protection, while lyrics written by the user remain the user’s lyrics. Those statements describe Suno’s interpretation of its terms and U.S. copyright, not universal legal advice. The U.S. Copyright Office’s report series addresses copyrightability of generative-AI outputs; treatment depends on human authorship, the facts, and jurisdiction. Check your inputs and voice permissions
Lyrics, audio, and voice recordings you upload are also governed by the service’s terms. Suno’s terms require users to have the rights, licenses, consents, or permissions needed for submitted material. They also say voice models may resemble only the user’s own voice. Do not upload a collaborator’s lyrics, a commercial recording, or another person’s voice unless you have the necessary permission. Suno Terms of Service

Check trial and cancellation terms before starting
Udio
Udio’s help article describes a one-time Standard subscription trial of up to seven days. It says the trial can be cancelled through the account page; if it is not cancelled before it ends, the user is immediately charged the full annual subscription price unless the monthly option was selected. The article also describes a cap of three two-minute generations per day for certain generation types and says the trial does not raise credit limits. Confirm the current checkout terms and selected billing interval before starting. Udio trial details
BandLab
BandLab’s FAQ says trials and subscriptions renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the billing date. Its listed Pro price and introductory trial terms are subject to change, so check the amount and renewal date displayed for your account. BandLab Membership FAQ
Rank #4
Suno
Suno says monthly plans can be cancelled at any time and that rights for songs created while subscribed are retained after cancellation. Its help page displays a starting price, but pricing is time-sensitive; consult the live plan page before deciding. Suno subscription and retroactive-rights information

Choose based on your release plan
- If you are experimenting: Start with a free tier or trial only after checking what happens to trial generations, credits, and downloads when the trial ends.
- If you intend to release songs: Verify export access and the commercial-use terms for the specific plan and generation date before creating work you expect to monetize.
- If you need copyright protection: Do not treat a subscription as a legal guarantee. Keep records of your human-authored contributions and consult the relevant copyright office or qualified legal advice for your jurisdiction.
- If you use outside material: Confirm you have permission to submit every lyric, recording, or voice input, and check whether the service imposes additional restrictions.
