Better YouTube ideas and scripts start with a better brief—not a magic prompt. Give an AI tool your channel context, audience, goal, format, constraints, and desired output; generate a range of concepts before evaluating them; then develop the strongest idea from premise to outline to script and verify the draft yourself.
Why channel context matters
A prompt such as “Give me YouTube ideas about gardening” leaves the model to guess who the channel serves, what the creator knows, what has already been covered, and what can actually be produced. The result may be plausible but generic. A useful prompt supplies the information that distinguishes your channel from every other channel on the same subject.

OpenAI’s prompt guidance recommends clear, specific instructions with enough context, followed by iteration. OpenAI Academy’s creator guidance organizes a brief around role, task, context, and constraints. Treat those as working parts of one prompt, not as magic words that guarantee a particular result.

Use this workflow to go from ideas to a script
1. Generate distinct ideas before asking for a winner
Ask for several genuinely different angles, not a list of title variations for one premise. For each concept, request the audience question it addresses, a one-sentence viewer promise, why it suits your channel, likely research needed, and a possible title. Ask the model to group ideas by theme but not rank them yet.
This wide-to-narrow sequence helps prevent an early suggestion from anchoring the whole session. OpenAI Academy recommends separating idea generation from evaluation and treating generated material as a first pass for a human reality check.
2. Compare ideas using criteria you can explain
Once you have a shortlist, evaluate it against channel-relevant criteria. Possible dimensions include audience fit, freshness relative to recent uploads, evidence of audience interest, your ability to speak credibly on the subject, and production effort. Ask for a brief reason and the biggest uncertainty behind each assessment.
Scores are a way to make trade-offs visible, not predictions of views or virality. No outcome statistic in the cited official guidance establishes that prompting techniques increase views, watch time, retention, or subscribers.
3. Approve a premise and outline before drafting prose
Pick a concept, then ask for a one-sentence premise and an outline before asking for a full script. Check whether the opening establishes the viewer payoff, the main beats follow a coherent sequence, and each claim has support or is clearly marked for checking. Request an outline that identifies examples, demonstrations, or visuals needed for each beat.
Only after the outline is sound should you request a script. For a useful draft, specify video type, platform, approximate duration, number of speakers, tone, and any references that should guide terminology or style. OpenAI Academy’s scriptwriting lesson identifies these as relevant prompt dimensions.

4. Revise with bounded requests
Vague follow-ups such as “make it better” do not say what needs to change. Ask for a specific, limited revision: “Make the opening explain the payoff sooner,” “Remove claims that lack support,” or “Rewrite this section for a beginner without changing the example.” Review each revision against your outline and voice rather than accepting it automatically.

Check names, dates, explanations, quotations, statistics, and performance claims against appropriate sources. Remove generic filler, restore the creator’s actual perspective, and read dialogue aloud for unnatural phrasing. Do not let a model invent personal stories, citations, or evidence. These are editorial safeguards, not a promise that the workflow improves performance.
Reusable prompts for ideas, outlines, and scripts
Channel-aware idea batch
Replace the bracketed details with information you can share. If you have few past uploads, say so rather than implying you have analytics you do not.
Help me brainstorm [number] distinct YouTube video concepts for a channel about [niche]. The audience is [specific audience], and their current questions include [examples]. My point of view or relevant experience is [context]. Recent videos or topics to avoid repeating: [list]. Production limits: [time, equipment, solo/interview/animation]. Suggest distinct angles. For each idea, give the viewer question, one-sentence promise, why it fits this audience, likely research needed, and a possible title. Do not claim likely views or virality. Group ideas by theme; do not rank them yet.
Shortlist evaluation
Compare these concepts: [paste shortlist]. Score each from 1–5 on audience fit, freshness relative to my recent uploads, evidence of audience interest, and production effort. Explain each score in one sentence, identify the largest uncertainty, and recommend which two ideas deserve more research or a small test. Do not treat the score as a prediction of views.

Outline before script
Turn this selected concept into a [long-form/Shorts] YouTube outline for approximately [runtime]. Audience: [audience]. Desired viewer outcome: [outcome]. Tone: [tone]. Format and speaker count: [format]. Use this structure: opening hook, context, [number] main beats, examples or demonstrations, takeaway, and closing. For each beat, note what evidence or visual support is needed and flag claims that need checking. Wait for my approval of the outline before drafting the full script.
Script draft and revision
Draft a conversational script from this approved outline for [runtime], for [platform/format] and [number] speakers. Match these style traits: [describe traits]; avoid [phrases or habits]. Include suggested visual or demonstration cues in brackets. Do not invent personal anecdotes, statistics, quotations, or sources; mark missing evidence as [VERIFY]. After the draft, list claims that need verification and places where my own example would improve it.
How Ask Studio fits into the workflow
YouTube describes Ask Studio as an AI creative partner inside YouTube Studio. It can brainstorm ideas, provide channel insights, analyze performance, review scripts pasted into the chat, and offer suggestions on eligible draft, private, or unlisted videos, including suggestions informed by historical retention data. You can accept or ignore its feedback.

Ask Studio is the current YouTube direction for brainstorming. YouTube Help says it is available to most creators globally in desktop web browsers, but access depends on the account: Official Artist Channels, Made for Kids channels, and creators under 18 are excluded, and a creator who does not see it in Studio does not currently have access. It is not a universal feature.
YouTube says the quality and accuracy of responses may vary, and that responses do not represent YouTube’s views. Use its channel context as an input, not as a substitute for checking whether an idea suits your audience or whether a factual claim is correct.
Ask Studio prompt for script feedback
Review this script for clarity, pacing, audience fit, and whether the opening quickly establishes the viewer payoff. Point to exact sections that could be improved and explain why. Separate objective issues from subjective suggestions; do not rewrite the whole script unless I ask.
YouTube says Ask Studio conversations and submitted feedback may be used to improve the product experience, trained human reviewers may read and process conversations, and conversations connected with a channel are automatically deleted after 30 days. Do not enter confidential information or anything you would not want a reviewer to see.
Choosing Ask Studio or a separate AI chat tool
Neither approach is automatically best for every creator. Compare the workflow and account-specific terms before sharing unpublished work.
| Consideration | Ask Studio | Separate AI chat |
|---|---|---|
| Channel context | Designed to use the creator’s Studio channel and audience information. | Depends on the context you provide. |
| Workflow | Integrated into Studio; can review pasted scripts and eligible draft, private, or unlisted videos. | May require copying scripts or other material into a separate tool. |
| References and flexibility | Use the available Studio workflow and account features. | Can use user-provided context and references; exact capabilities vary by product and account. |
| Access | Desktop web, available to most creators but subject to account eligibility and access. | Depends on the chosen product and its current availability. |
| Data handling | YouTube discloses possible human review and automatic deletion of channel-connected conversations after 30 days. | Check the specific tool’s current retention, review, and training terms before sharing unpublished material. |
Ask Studio has a documented Studio integration; a separate tool can be useful when you want to supply a custom brief and references. In either case, keep the creator in control of the premise, evidence, and final wording.
What happened to the Inspiration tab?
YouTube Help says it has been gradually deprecating the Inspiration tab starting August 2026 and directs creators to Ask Studio for brainstorming. The older tab generated ideas, titles, thumbnails, and outlines, and showed audience-interest indicators and related-interest signals. YouTube cautioned that its generated content could be inaccurate or inappropriate and that quality varied. Because the change is gradual, you may still encounter older documentation or saved Inspiration ideas; that does not mean the feature is the current direction.
If your scripted format is a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream
A script or playlist may be part of a channel format built around prerecorded video running continuously. StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded material from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera.
