Its weak spots are limited enemy variety, occasional navigation confusion, fixed-feeling boss encounters and a presentation that intentionally looks dated. The result is a focused retro homage rather than a modern military FPS.
What Agent 64: Spies Never Die is
Agent 64: Spies Never Die is a PC first-person shooter from Replicant D6, released on Steam on August 11, 2026. Game Informer describes it as a retro-inspired homage to Nintendo 64 shooters, particularly GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark. The official Steam description also identifies TimeSplitters as an influence. Those references describe the design goal accurately: missions have distinct objectives, combat is arcade-like, cheats and modifiers reward replaying stages, and multiplayer is built around split-screen and arena-style rules rather than a contemporary live-service structure.

The story follows secret agent John Walters as presumed-dead rival Dominic Pulp returns. Coverage does not describe the campaign count identically. Game Informer calls it a 14-mission story, while Smash Jump describes more than 10 missions and discusses a daughter companion named Dana. Treat 14 as the clearest figure for the full campaign, while recognizing that the lower number reflects a different way of counting or describing the stages.

The biggest pros
1. It commits to a genuine N64-era design identity
Agent 64 is not merely using low-resolution textures as decoration. Its mission-based structure, arcade pacing, optional objectives, cheats and arena multiplayer all target the way 1990s console shooters were organized. Levels are meant to be replayed with different goals and difficulty settings instead of completed once and discarded. For players who miss the specific rhythm of entering a stage, completing several objectives and then chasing a better result, that focus is a major advantage.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The homage is also practical. The game does not require you to pretend that its blocky environments are realistic. Readable geometry and animated character textures make the visual style immediately legible, while the simple presentation keeps attention on routes, targets and mission tasks. Fans of GoldenEye 007 or Perfect Dark will recognize the intent without needing a modernized remake treatment.
2. Difficulty changes more than enemy durability
The campaign has three difficulty levels. Higher settings can add objectives and areas, so selecting a harder mode is not only a test of aim. It can expose routes and tasks that a lower setting does not show. That gives experienced players a reason to revisit missions and lets the game use difficulty as a content filter rather than a simple health-and-damage multiplier.
Additional replay systems include collectibles, unlockable modifiers, cheats and challenges. Together, these features make the package broader than a short nostalgia trip. You can finish the story, return for missed objectives, experiment with modifiers, and then move to multiplayer without leaving the same design framework.
3. PC controls add precision without removing the old-school feel
Combat supports hip-fire with generous auto-aim as well as a more precise aiming mode. That combination preserves the forgiving, fast handling associated with console shooters while giving a keyboard-and-mouse player the accuracy expected on PC. You are not forced to choose between a strict modern aiming model and an intentionally loose retro one.
The arsenal covers familiar categories: pistol, shotgun, sniper rifle, machine gun and revolver, with heavier weapons appearing later. This gives missions a recognizable progression and supports different engagement ranges. Mouse aiming is especially useful when a stage asks for precision, while hip-fire keeps close encounters quick.

4. The multiplayer offering is unusually broad for a small retro shooter
Agent 64 includes both cooperative and competitive play. In the campaign, two people can play locally through split-screen and up to four can join online. Competitive modes support four players locally or eight online, and bots are available when a full group is not.
| Mode type | Local support | Online support | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Campaign co-op | Two-player split-screen | Four players | Play the story together |
| Competitive | Four-player split-screen | Eight players | Bots can fill matches |
| Named modes | Deathmatch, Briefcase, Zone and Challenges | ||
This structure matters because it serves different groups. A solo player still has the full campaign, a pair can use local co-op, and a larger online group can run competitive matches. Bot support also reduces the risk that a mode becomes unusable when friends are unavailable. No independent player-count data is established, so the practical availability of online matches will depend on the community at the time you play.
5. It offers more than a single evening of campaign content
Smash Jump reported roughly 20 percent completion after finishing the main story, based on its own review progress. That figure is reviewer-specific rather than a standardized completion measurement, but it illustrates how the collectibles, modifiers, challenges, alternate objectives and multiplayer can extend the game beyond the first clear. The campaign itself is not advertised with a confirmed hour count, so buyers should judge its value by replay systems and multiplayer rather than a promised runtime.
The main cons
Enemy variety can feel narrow
Smash Jump reports repeated encounters with similar goons. Tougher black-suit enemies appear, but not often enough to fundamentally change the pattern. If you expect a large roster with sharply different behaviors, tactics or faction roles, the campaign may feel repetitive even when objectives change.
This limitation is connected to the retro brief. Older mission shooters often reused enemy archetypes to keep encounters readable and fast. That can support the arcade feel, but it also means the game has less behavioral variety than a contemporary shooter built around elaborate AI systems.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

Navigation is sometimes harder than the combat
There is no minimap. Smash Jump found at least one crypt mission confusing even after repeated plays, which indicates that the problem is not simply a first-run learning curve. Players who rely on objective markers, maps or highly signposted routes may spend more time orienting themselves than they expect.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The absence of a minimap can be appealing if you enjoy memorizing spaces and reading environmental cues, but it is a real friction point for anyone who wants immediate direction. Before buying, decide whether discovering routes is part of the fun or an interruption.
Some boss-style missions are comparatively fixed
The review identifies approximately one boss-style mission per act that resolves in a largely predetermined way. These stages can provide a change of pace, but they do not always deliver the improvisational combat or systemic variety found in the more objective-driven missions. Players looking for encounters that evolve dramatically from one attempt to the next should moderate their expectations.
Weapon distribution is uneven
Although the weapon list covers several useful roles, not every gun appears consistently. Smash Jump specifically notes stretches in which the shotgun was absent. That can make the available arsenal feel dependent on level placement rather than personal preference, especially if you have a favorite close-range weapon.
The later arrival of heavy weapons also means the campaign does not give you the complete arsenal immediately. This supports progression, but it may frustrate players who want broad loadout choice from the beginning.

The visual style is intentionally dated
Blocky environments and animated character textures are central to the homage. They are readable and coherent, but they do not aim for modern realism, dense environmental detail or cinematic presentation. Players who want contemporary graphics, elaborate animation or highly varied visual spectacle may interpret the same choices as old-fashioned rather than charming.
How the campaign plays and how long it lasts
The campaign is a solo story with varied objectives, multiple difficulty settings and additional content on higher settings. The most reliable public count is 14 missions from Game Informer; Smash Jump uses “over 10 missions,” so the safest description is a campaign in the low-teens rather than a guaranteed hour total.
No researched source establishes a universal completion time. Your runtime will depend on difficulty, whether you pursue extra objectives and collectibles, how often you replay stages, and whether you use modifiers or cheats. A first run focused only on finishing objectives will naturally be shorter than a completionist run that explores higher-difficulty areas.
The structure favors deliberate replay. If a mission feels straightforward on the first setting, raising the difficulty can add tasks or areas rather than merely making enemies tougher. That is the campaign’s clearest answer to the question “How long is it?”: its content is designed to be revisited, not consumed as one fixed route.
Combat, controls and weapons
At close and medium range, hip-fire and auto-aim keep the action fast. When a target is distant or a mission demands accuracy, the precise aiming mode gives you a steadier option. Keyboard and mouse controls make that precision more natural on PC than it was on the console hardware that inspired the game.

The weapon selection covers a pistol, shotgun, sniper rifle, machine gun and revolver, followed by heavier weapons later in the campaign. Expect the level design to determine what is available; the review’s note about missing shotguns means you cannot assume every stage supports the same preferred tactic. The game is therefore closer to a curated mission shooter than a modern loadout-driven FPS.
Does it feel like GoldenEye?
Yes, in structure and intent rather than as a licensed recreation. The mission objectives, difficulty-based variations, cheats, unlockables and arena modes all point toward the same design tradition. Perfect Dark and TimeSplitters are also explicit reference points, so the result is a blend of late-1990s console shooter conventions rather than a one-to-one copy of one game.
The comparison has limits. Agent 64 adds PC mouse-and-keyboard precision and supports online player counts beyond the original living-room format. At the same time, it keeps the sparse environments, repeated enemy types and occasional route confusion that modern shooters usually smooth away. Whether that feels authentic or dated depends on which parts of the older formula you value.

It is a strong fit if you want:
- Mission-based solo play with optional objectives and replayable stages.
- Three difficulty levels that can reveal additional tasks or areas.
- Cheats, modifiers, collectibles and challenges in the same spirit as classic console shooters.
- Both campaign co-op and competitive multiplayer, with bots available.
- A deliberately blocky visual style and arcade-like combat.
- Keyboard-and-mouse precision without abandoning hip-fire and auto-aim.
Consider waiting or skipping if you require:
- A large, highly varied enemy roster with complex behaviors.
- A minimap or consistently explicit navigation guidance.
- Boss encounters that change substantially between attempts.
- Reliable access to every weapon type in every mission.
- Modern realistic graphics and cinematic presentation.
- A confirmed campaign-hour figure before purchase.
The recommendation is therefore specific rather than universal. Agent 64 earns its place through authenticity, replay systems and mode variety, not through modern visual fidelity or cutting-edge enemy AI.
Price, value and what is not yet known
Smash Jump described the game as costing around $20 at review time. That is a reviewer-era figure, not a guaranteed current or worldwide price; Steam pricing can vary by region, taxes, discounts and later changes. Check the live Steam listing for the amount shown in your account before purchasing.
The value case is strongest when you will use more than the first campaign clear. Extra objectives, higher-difficulty areas, modifiers, collectibles, challenges, co-op and competitive modes all contribute to the package. If you plan to play only once and do not enjoy retro presentation, the same price may feel less compelling.
No independent sales totals, player-count statistics, performance benchmarks or review aggregates are established in the available coverage. Those figures should not be inferred from the 9/10 Smash Jump review or from the game’s multiplayer feature list.

Bottom line
Agent 64: Spies Never Die is a focused retro FPS for players who specifically want the mission design and multiplayer culture of classic Nintendo 64-era shooters, updated with PC aiming and online options. Its limited enemy variety, occasional navigation problems, fixed boss-style stages, uneven weapon placement and intentionally dated visuals are meaningful trade-offs. Buy it for the old-school structure and replay tools; avoid it if modern presentation, navigation aids and systemic variety matter more than faithful nostalgia.
