Adobe first brought Photoshop, Adobe Express and Acrobat into ChatGPT on December 10, 2025. The launch let users request common image, design and PDF jobs in natural language. Adobe has since consolidated those separate experiences into a unified Adobe plugin, so current users should look for Adobe—not a standalone Photoshop plugin. The plugin now covers more than 70 tools across Photoshop, Express, Firefly, Premiere, Acrobat, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, Stock and other Adobe services.
What changed after Adobe’s ChatGPT launch
Adobe’s original announcement described three ChatGPT apps: Photoshop, Adobe Express and Acrobat. At launch, Adobe said they were free to ChatGPT users and available on ChatGPT desktop, the web and iOS; Express was also listed for Android, while Photoshop and Acrobat support on Android was described as coming soon. Those were launch-period details from December 2025, not a permanent guarantee of today’s platform coverage.

On August 6, 2026, Adobe announced a unified Adobe plugin. Current Adobe Creative Cloud help says the Photoshop plugin has been replaced by this Adobe plugin. Instructions that tell you to install a separate Photoshop plugin are therefore outdated for the current product path.

How do I use Photoshop in ChatGPT?
- Open ChatGPT on a supported desktop or web surface and open Settings or the connected-apps area.
- Connect or enable the Adobe plugin when ChatGPT presents the available apps.
- Select Adobe from the prompt bar, or invoke it with @Adobe if that control is available in your ChatGPT interface.
- Attach an image or identify an Adobe asset, then describe one concrete change, such as “remove the distracting object,” “brighten the subject,” or “replace the background.”
- Review the result and refine it with another instruction. For demanding work, continue in Photoshop or another native Adobe application.
The original Photoshop integration covered adjustments to a selected image area, brightness, contrast and exposure controls, plus effects such as Glitch and Glow. Adobe’s current unified-plugin documentation describes a broader set of workflows, including batch edits, color and lighting changes, distraction removal, background replacement, cropping, resizing and canvas expansion.

Where conversational editing fits
ChatGPT is most useful when you can describe the intended change more easily than you can construct it manually. It is not a substitute for Photoshop’s complete layer, masking, typography, color-management and retouching controls. Adobe positions its native applications as the place to finish work that requires advanced editing or pixel-level precision.
What can Adobe Express do in ChatGPT?
Adobe Express was part of the original launch, even though the headline often focuses on Photoshop and Acrobat. The launch workflow supported finding templates, replacing images, changing text and animating designs without leaving the conversation. Adobe’s newer documentation frames Express as a way to turn template-based designs into social assets or polished PDFs.
This makes Express the better fit for quick, format-conscious deliverables—such as adapting a design for a social channel—when you do not need to build every element from scratch. Ask for the format, audience, copy changes and visual direction explicitly, then inspect the generated design before publishing.

Can ChatGPT edit a PDF with Acrobat?
Yes. Acrobat in ChatGPT is intended for common document transformations, but some workflows continue in Acrobat’s editor for review and completion rather than ending entirely in one chat response.
- Edit PDF content.
- Extract text or tables.
- Convert other files or images to PDF.
- Export a PDF to an editable Word document.
- Merge, combine or split PDFs.
- Remove, reorder or rotate pages.
- Compress a PDF.
- Redact sensitive content.
For a document task, state the desired output and any constraints—for example, which pages to remove, whether the file must remain searchable, or which information must be redacted. Open the resulting Acrobat editor view and verify pagination, formatting and redactions before sharing the file.

What the broader Adobe plugin adds
Adobe says the unified plugin connects workflows that previously required moving between individual products. Documented examples include:
- Resizing video for different platforms and creating highlight reels.
- Searching Creative Cloud assets.
- Editing many photos in bulk.
- Creating data-driven documents.
- Building campaign videos and design assets.
- Producing polished PDFs from connected creative work.
The plugin spans Express, Photoshop, Firefly, Premiere, Acrobat, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign and Stock, among other Adobe tools. The exact actions exposed to you can depend on the ChatGPT surface, account state, region and Adobe’s current availability.

Adobe says you can start as a guest. Signing in unlocks additional capabilities, including generative tool calls, access to Creative Cloud files and the ability to save work across sessions. If your task depends on files already stored in Creative Cloud or on returning to a project later, an Adobe account is the practical choice.
Guest access does not mean every Adobe service or every operation is free. Adobe’s December 2025 launch announcement called the three ChatGPT apps free to ChatGPT users at that time; it did not establish that all Adobe services, all generative features or any future capability would have no usage limits or subscription requirement.

- Acrobat help says the feature is available to all ChatGPT users, including the free plan, in English and in regions where Adobe products and services are offered.
- Adobe’s Creative Cloud help says the broader feature is available globally on ChatGPT Work and ChatGPT Codex desktop and ChatGPT web, except regions restricted by Adobe trade compliance, and currently supports English only.
These statements should not be flattened into a universal promise for every Adobe tool, mobile app or account type. If Adobe is missing from the app picker, check that you are using a supported ChatGPT surface, that your region is eligible and that the interface language and account configuration meet the current requirements.
Choosing ChatGPT or the native Adobe app

Use the conversational route for speed and hand the project to the native application when quality control or precision becomes the dominant requirement. Neither Adobe’s launch announcement nor its later plugin documentation provides an independent study of editing quality, time saved or adoption, so those benefits should be treated as workflow convenience rather than measured performance.
What Adobe originally said about the partnership
Adobe’s December 10, 2025 announcement included a report of 800 million weekly ChatGPT users. That was Adobe’s stated figure for ChatGPT’s weekly user base at the time, not a count of people using Adobe tools inside ChatGPT.
David Wadhwani, Adobe’s president of Digital Media, said the launch combined Photoshop, Adobe Express and Acrobat with the ease of ChatGPT to make creativity more accessible. In August 2026, OpenAI’s Vibhor Chhabra described the Adobe plugin as a way to connect ChatGPT users with Adobe’s creative and productivity capabilities. Those statements describe the partnership’s intent; they are not independent measurements of results.
Practical checklist before you start
- Confirm that Adobe appears in your ChatGPT app or plugin picker.
- Check whether your task is available in English and in your region.
- Sign in to Adobe if you need Creative Cloud files, generative features or cross-session saving.
- Describe the source file, target format and exact change.
- Review outputs in the relevant Adobe editor, especially PDFs and redactions.
- Move to the native Adobe app when precision, extensive controls or production-ready finishing matters.
The Bottom Line
Adobe’s Photoshop, Express and Acrobat ChatGPT launch began as separate apps in December 2025, but the current path is the unified Adobe plugin. It handles common conversational image, design, video and PDF workflows, while native Adobe applications remain the right destination for advanced control and final production work.
