Verdict: The 360 Video Doorbell X3 was marketed as a subscription-light smart doorbell with radar, PIR, person and face detection, a battery that could last months, and a base station with local storage. Those features are attractive on paper, but the important numbers come from 360 Smart Life’s 2021 campaign rather than current independent testing. Treat the X3 as an older product whose present app support, cloud service, stock, price and warranty need verification before you buy.
What the 360 Video Doorbell X3 is
This X3 is a video doorbell from 360 Smart Life, not the unrelated Insta360 X3 action camera. The manufacturer’s 2021 launch material describes a 5-megapixel camera, wide-dynamic-range processing, night vision, live view, motion-triggered clips, two-way audio, a voice changer, optional siren and tamper alerts.

Its detection system combines radar, passive infrared (PIR), software-based human detection and face detection. The launch material also lists package-arrival and pickup alerts, adjustable detection zones and privacy zones, and a maximum detection range of 30 feet. Those are manufacturer specifications, not measurements from an independent laboratory.

|---|---|---|
| Camera | 5 MP; 2496 × 1920 video | 360 Smart Life launch and campaign specifications from 2021 |

| Maximum detection range | 30 feet | Manufacturer-stated maximum |
| Battery | 5,000 mAh | Built-in capacity stated in the 2021 campaign |
| Battery life | Up to six months | Campaign assumption: 20 motion events per day, with a 20-second clip for each event |
| Optional battery pack | Up to 18 months total | Campaign estimate with the add-on pack; compatibility and current availability require confirmation |
| Base station storage | 8 GB local storage | Included base station/chime according to the campaign |

Battery life: six months is a usage scenario, not a promise
The campaign says, “The 360 X3 comes with a rechargeable battery (5000mAh), with a 6 months battery life* on a single charge.” The asterisked conditions matter: the estimate assumes 20 motion detections per day and a 20-second recording for each event. A busy entrance, frequent live views, weak Wi-Fi, cold weather or longer clips can reduce runtime. The optional battery pack was advertised as extending total life to up to 18 months, but current availability and compatibility are not established.

The doorbell was also described as supporting hardwired power for continuous charging. The campaign mentions adhesive mounting or drilling, while the internal battery can be charged normally. Check a current manual for voltage, wiring, mounting clearance and whether the optional pack is still sold before starting an installation.
Base station, local recording and subscriptions
The bundled base station is more than a simple indoor chime. 360 Smart Life says it provides Wi-Fi amplification and 8 GB of local storage. Its “up to 120 days” figure assumes only 10 daily clips of 15 seconds each, so it is not a general retention guarantee. More events, longer recordings or preserved alerts will consume the space sooner.

The launch material says clips can be stored locally or in the cloud and describes cloud storage as using Amazon Web Services. It also says local clips are encrypted. Those statements are vendor claims, not an independent security audit. The available information does not establish current cloud-service continuity, subscription pricing, retention limits, account requirements or app support. If avoiding a recurring fee is essential, confirm that the current firmware and app still allow the local-storage workflow you need.

Radar plus PIR is intended to distinguish meaningful movement from some environmental activity, while person, face and package detection are handled in software. The manufacturer says motion-activated recording minimizes storage and battery use on false positives: “The X3 uses motion-activated recording, so it minimizes battery and storage expenditures on false-positives.” That is a design claim, not proof that alerts will be reliable at your doorway.

Detection and privacy zones are adjustable, which can help exclude roads, sidewalks or swaying vegetation. The campaign also lists 10-to-30-second event clips, package alerts, face recognition, tamper alerts and an optional siren. Treat face and package recognition as convenience features that may require current app support and careful privacy settings rather than as guaranteed identification.
Video, audio and night performance
The advertised 2496 × 1920 output, WDR and night vision should provide useful detail in bright backlight and at night, but no standardized image or low-light measurements are available for this review. The product includes live view, two-way communication and a voice changer. The manufacturer also advertised a 30-foot maximum detection range; that number should not be read as a guaranteed distance for clear identification in every lighting or mounting position.

Network and smart-home compatibility
A campaign FAQ updated January 23, 2021 lists both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, a 2 Mbps minimum bandwidth and a 20 Mbps recommendation for 5-megapixel viewing. These are dated recommendations and should be checked against current documentation, especially if the base station is being used as a wireless relay.

What an independent review reported
AndroidGuys reviewed the X3 historically and viewed its feature set and value favorably at the time. That review reported usable daylight and night video, local and cloud-storage options, motion filtering, package detection and app-based two-way communication. Its approximately $200 price is historical, not a current market price, and its observations do not substitute for present-day testing.
Installation and purchase checks
- Confirm the exact model. Search for “360 Video Doorbell X3,” not “Insta360 X3.”
- Verify the listing. The manufacturer page includes a Buy from Amazon route, but current seller, stock and price are not established here.
- Check support dates. Confirm that the mobile app, cloud account and Alexa or Google integration still work with the firmware being sold.
- Choose power deliberately. Use battery operation for simpler installation, hardwiring for continuous charging, or the optional pack only after confirming compatibility.
- Plan storage. Rely on the base station only if its current local-recording behavior and retention controls meet your needs; otherwise verify cloud terms before purchase.
- Validate mounting and weather conditions. Follow the current manual for drilling, adhesive use, wiring and placement. IP66 is a manufacturer rating, not a guarantee against every installation environment.
Who should consider it?
- Potentially suitable: buyers who want a battery doorbell with an included storage hub, configurable detection zones and the possibility of local recording.
- Proceed cautiously: buyers who require guaranteed long-term cloud support, a documented current warranty, verified HomeKit or Home Assistant support, or a readily available replacement battery.
- Look elsewhere: anyone needing independently measured image quality, confirmed current stock or a clearly documented support lifecycle before installation.
Final assessment
The X3’s concept is coherent: combine radar and PIR with software detection, record to a local base station, and reduce charging through a large battery. Its headline advantages are also the areas where the evidence is weakest. Six-month battery life and 120-day storage are conditional 2021 campaign estimates, smart-home compatibility is partly historical, and present purchase and service details remain unconfirmed. Buy only after checking a live listing, current documentation and the status of the app and cloud service.
