Before launch, make sure customers can understand what you offer and contact you, then check that Google can access the site. After publishing, use Search Console to inspect important pages and manage a Google Business Profile if you serve local customers. These steps improve readiness and discovery, but none guarantees that Google will crawl, index, or prominently show a page.
1. Make the customer path obvious
A visitor should quickly be able to tell what your business does, whom it serves, and what to do next. If location matters, make your service area clear. Use the plain-language terms customers use for your service, and give visitors a direct way to call, request a quote, book, or buy.

Link important pages from other pages on your site so visitors and search engines can reach them. Google’s SEO Starter Guide emphasizes making a site useful and understandable; it also cautions, “There are no secrets here that’ll automatically rank your site first in Google (sorry!).”

2. Check the live site on mobile
Review the published site at narrow screen widths, not just in a desktop preview. Check that text is readable, navigation works, contact actions are easy to use, and essential page content is present. Google says, “Most searches are now done from mobile devices; make sure that your content is optimized to load quickly and display properly on all screen sizes,” in its How to Get Information on Google guidance. Google describes responsive design as the easiest design pattern to implement and maintain in its Mobile-first Indexing Best Practices.

3. Confirm HTTPS works on the production site
Open the public pages using the final domain and confirm they load over HTTPS. Check important resources as well as the page itself; a secure page should not depend on critical content that fails to load. HTTPS is one of the basic checks in Google’s guidance on getting information on Google.
4. Make sure Google can access important pages
After deployment, check that the pages you want found are not accidentally hidden behind a login, blocked in robots.txt, or marked with a noindex directive. Confirm that required CSS and JavaScript resources are available so Google can render the page. Use URL Inspection in Google Search Console on important deployed URLs to check how Google sees them.
Rank #2
Technical access makes a page eligible for consideration; it does not guarantee crawling, indexing, or serving in search results. Google states this in Google Search Essentials, last updated December 10, 2025. Google also says it costs nothing to appear in Search results; a paid promise of guaranteed inclusion or ranking is not supported by that policy.

Give each page one preferred, canonical URL and use it consistently in navigation and internal links. If your content-management system generates a sitemap, check that it lists the preferred URLs rather than duplicates or irrelevant pages.

- Attractive guest book features soft, leather-like imported cover material.
- The word ''Guests'' is embossed on the front cover.
- Interior pages provide plenty of space for guests' names, as well as addresses or comments.
- Lightly lined pages take pen beautifully.
- Acid-free archival-quality paper helps preserve memories.
A sitemap is optional, not an indexing guarantee. It can tell search engines about the URLs you consider canonical; if useful, submit it in Search Console. Google’s Build and Submit a Sitemap guide explains the process, while its SEO Starter Guide says a sitemap is not required and advises focusing first on making people aware of the site.
6. If you serve local customers, manage your Google Business Profile
Claim and maintain the Google Business Profile that controls how your business information appears across Google Search and Maps. Check that its details are accurate, and make the website itself clear about contact information, service area, and hours where applicable. Google’s How to Get Information on Google identifies the profile as the tool for managing that business information. This local-profile step is relevant to businesses serving a place or area; it is not a substitute for a useful, accessible website.
7. Add structured data only when it matches the page
Structured data is optional. For a local business, use Google’s Local Business structured data guidance only for information that is genuinely present on the page. Validate the markup, then inspect the deployed URL and make sure Google can access it. Valid markup can make a page eligible for certain search features, but it does not promise that a feature will appear. Google notes that discovery and reindexing may take several days.

A site:example.com search can be a quick indication that some pages appear in Google, but the site: operator does not list every indexed URL. For page-level checks and ongoing monitoring, use Search Console’s URL Inspection and reporting tools. If a page is missing, review its accessibility and indexing settings, then allow time for Google to recrawl it; do not treat a single search as a complete index report.
